Strange question - pee breaks ;)

ok, my daughter asked me this today but I didn't really know the answer.

She asked me, "what if we are waiting in a long line up and I need to go to the bathroom?"

I know some of the line ups can be quite long and I'm sure kids must have been in this situation before. What is the etiquette for this?
a. hold it
b. go and have someone hold your place
c. ???

I'm sure I can't be the only one who's had this question. :P:D:lmao:

We always hold people's spots if they don't have anyone to save it for them. Just communicate and hurry and I can't imagine it'll be an issue depending on the actual physical make up of the queue (ropes, poles, etc).

This happens to us a LOT even though we take regular planned bathroom breaks every two-three hours. With little ones just past toilet training it is always unpredictable. Do you have another adult in your party? If so, this is what my husband and I do: Husband continues in the line with the other kids right up until where the CM is directing people board the ride, at which time he lets the CM know he is waiting for two of our party to return from the restrooms and he steps aside until we return. In the meantime, I exit out backward the way we came and let the CM at the ride entrance know that I needed to exit for a bathroom and my husband is holding our spot. We go to the nearest restroom at a brisk pace, and when we return we smile and remind the CM (they usually remember), and then politely walk forward while saying in a constant stream "excuse me, we had to leave for the restroom, my husband is holding our spot). Often, the FP CM will let us cut through more quickly to meet up with DH, especially if we were near the end and I tell them that.

Once, I was on my own with two of my kids near the end of POTC when this happened, and we just exited and explained to a CM, who was kind enough to escort us in through a side entrance back to where we were when we returned.

Bottom line, just be friendly and polite in explaining your situation. We never once have anyone give us odd looks or complain. They see you are with a child and understand; when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Most people in a queue wouldn't begrudge someone needing a bathroom break, just be polite. There have been occasions when I've seen a group of people (8 or more) working their way through a line to "catch up" to someone holding their place, I found that irksome and that they were just jumping the queue.

Depends on the line....some are better suited for this type of exchange. Some queues are narrow, have numerous switchbacks, go in and out of various 'rooms'. That's could be a lot of good will to count on. Again, depending on the line.

I have no problem with a mom or dad taking a little one to the bathroom but when we were in line for a ride at Pandor and a group of about 9 adult people cut in line from a bathroom break I was not amused.

We've done the "one parent and child leave the line" quite a few times when the kids were little. Like a previous poster said, just be polite about it and you shouldn't have a problem

Or, you can bring an inflatable portable potty and blow it up while you are in line. Just have your child sit down on the potty right where you are and you don't need to get out of line.......YES, I did get to witness this once!!! We were at the Animal Kingdom, in line to see Mickey, and the parent could've walked 50 yards to the bathroom.....but nope, not going to leave the line!

We constantly take breaks with our kids. We learned a valuable lesson our first trip to WDW. We were in line for the buses at the end of an MK day. My daughter was five and needed to go to the RR. My wife takes her out of line to hit the RR just outside of the entrance to MK. When they returned the were five rows behind us in line. My daughter cried and came up and jumped back in line with my son and I...my wife refused to do that. My wife returned to the resort about an hour after my we did.

We now ALWAYS hit the RR before we leave ANY park!!!

my rule of thumb when it comes to bathrooms=when you see one, just try and go, even if you don't have to. Empty your blatter/bowels, that way if in the event you end up in a line, parade, show, etc., you can have confidence that you just went. We try and go even if neither of us has the urge. You'll find that your body almost has a natural response to being in the bathroom, because even when your body hasn't alerted you that you need to go, when you sit down, you'll find your body has something to expel.
