Delayed the arrival of Wonder, Sovereign of the Seas, and Carnival's whatever... turned out to be construction material left in the parking lot. That is all.
PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. - U.S. Coast Guard officials early today diverted two cruise ships after four suspicious canisters were found at Disney's cruise terminal. If this is a repost... sorry.
At 4:44 a.m., the canisters were found near Cruise Terminal 8's south gate, said Chief Charlie Wade, of the U.S. Coast Guard at Port Canaveral. The canisters reportedly were for construction.
The Coast Guard held up one cruise ship in the port's middle turn-around basin, and the other ship offshore while a bomb squad investigated the canisters.
"They're on their way in now," Wade said of the ships at about 6:40 a.m.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office bomb squad arrived at 5:30 a.m., declaring the scene safe.
"They've given us the OK to let the cruise ships come into the docks," Wade said.
The canisters contained construction material, an official at the port told Florida Today's news partner WKMG Local 6 News. The type of material was not known this morning.
One of the delayed ships, Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas, arrived at 7:15 a.m.
