Thanks for the invites, but . . . . . . .

TRS,

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear they sprung you from rehab. Hopefully recovery continues on track. I can see why you ruled out the Mini. At 6'3" and your recent injuries, I can see how getting in and out could be a challenge.

Glad to hear they sprung you from rehab

1) Me, too.
2) I was feeling like The-Prisoner-of-Zenda the Prisoner
3) We will see what happens from here.
. . . one doc want two ankle screws, one doc wants natural healing.
. . . of three doctors, I have two opinion for the spine surgery for the two fractured discs
4) At least, due to Cast Member friends, I have tickets for the Cast Preview of Avatar.
5) Until such favors, one NEVER REALIZES the value of one's friends. *

* Note, did I mention the Christmas card & gift from two of the daughters of one my favorite Fort Friends? Just when I needed a major moral lift, the package arrived --- a hand-written card from two of the best behaved girls I have seen. I only wish they knew how much the card meant !!!!!!! (What a lift to the spirits.)

Scupper,

I hope you wait to make your decision and consider going Part Time. It would keep you plugged in to the goings on.

Here's hoping your rehab starts smoothly next month for walking. Just don't flirt too hard with your therapist. :lovestruc

As for car shopping, you have a clean slate to pick something totally different if you wish. I'll follow that decision with interest.

Good luck!

Bama Ed

Scupper I would second Bama Ed's advice once you get back on your feet you'll time away from home that work provides as Mrs Scupper will find more than you ever thought of for you to do. As for medical stuff well a super friend of mine had to have serious spinal surgery and while she was in more pain for a while afterwards , Today she is back to work and living life to the fullest.
Loved story of the the 2 girls. Reminded me of back in the 80's when The Fort had it's own bus drivers . One night going back to our Cabin our driver told the story of how much he loved his job. Would not consider moving over to a different area. He was an original hire driver and had been at The Fort since it opened. He knew the people that came back year after year , and was over come with emotion when Kids he didn't recognize greeted him with a hug and told him how happy they were to see him again and ask if he remembered them ( Same story for each of them, How could I forget you, you are my FAVORITE PASSENGER EVER !!!) Sort of reminds me of you

1) I stopped by The Fort on Good Friday to say "hello" to my employee buddies and two guest families.
2) The wife drove me, as I am still unable to drive by doctor orders.
. . . fortunately, I knew the guard at the gate
. . . due to the holidays, they were not allowing entrance without an ADR or site reservation
. . . sometimes it is nice to have friends - and return favors due
3) I went in to say Good Bye and then drive to Cast Services to "Turn In My Papers" to retire.
4) One of the managers told to me to wait a month.
5) HUH ????
6) Turns out that one of my fellow Cast Members listed me for the Cast Member Preview of Avatar.
7) My HARDTICKETS for the event were in my mailbox at The Fort.
8) How could I pass this up, especially being wheelchair-bound?
. . . getting and FP in the near future could be almost impossible
9) I took the tickets and will wait until May to submit my retirement request.

THANKS, BUDDIES !

PS - My preview tickets at Avatar are for May 2nd, Noon-to-2:00pm, I will post my comments.
PPS- My guest family friends actually offered me cash to give them my Preview tickets.
glad you are making progress might be slower than you want but baby steps. enjoy your tickets

They will read this, I promise

They will read this, I promise

1) I hope so.
2) You, nor the daughters, realize how much the card and "gift" inclusion meant to me.
3) Sometimes, even a card can significantly elevate the spirits.
4) Especially when one is at a low point.
5) Even when unexpected, a card can mean so much more than a doctor's adverse opinion of a life of anticipated pain.
. . . who wants to survive retirement with predicted pain meds and bi-weekly physical therapy?
6) There is no way to show the smile it brought to my face when I opened the card (nor the tear it brought to the eyes).
7) Out-of-the-mouth-of-babes, or as Art Linkletter was fond of saying, "Kids say the strangest things . . ."

1) There is ONE good thing about being wheelchair-bound and house-bound.
2) I have viewed all of my old-old-old-old Disney videos.
3) Who remembers:
. . . Davy Crocket movies? (5 different TV versions, 3 original and 2 combinations)
. . . Spin and Marty two-part movie?
. . . Song of The South?
. . . 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
. . . Disney Nature (6 TV movies)
. . . Hardy Boys mystery
. . . Mickey Mouse Club (combinations of the Original series)
. . . Announcement TV show of the "Florida Project" and EPCOT design

4) One of my managers suggested staying Part-Time.
5) She suggested I simply go FMLA, which gives me broken days up to 12-weeks total per year off without penalty.
6) I can let WDW schedule me, then simply book-off with FMLA.
7) SOMETHING to consider.
Sounds like a win-win to me.

I do! I also remember watching (Walt Disney's Disneyland)on TV in 1954 and the opening of Disneyland in 1955. I also consider myself lucky i can still remember that far back in time. Keep the faith, those memories will help in a speedy recovery.Been there done that.

Read this and had to laugh. My Sister was just here on a visit and announced they are thinking of sending her 3, 20yr old plus children to WDW ( My Nieces and Nephew have been giving the the business about never taking them ) Well she said she and her husband weren't considering going with them. I reminded her how at 7pm on Sunday nights she was on the couch next to me for The Wonderful World of Disney. Yes we both remember the reveal show and some of the updates of the Florida project reveal and that of EPCOT as well.
How at 4pm every afternoon we were in front of the TV for The Mickey Mouse Club. Friday ROUNDUP show was a favorite. Learning from my best friend in Kindergarten who moved mid year to LA and announced that The Nautilus weren't real submarines and didn't go under the water and being completely dejected
The first time I was taken to a theater to see a movie it was a DISNEY double feature THE LIVING DESERT and BIG RED, scared to death by the rattlesnakes as I recall. Saw that BIG RED was on several years ago and my WookieBear who was very red at the time sat there with me watching it intently

1) Am going to two doctor, one xray, and one MRI appointment on Wednesday, 4/26/17.
2) Thought wife and I would stop by WDW for a late lunch.
. . . been 2/15/17 since I visited The Fort or ate at Trails End
. . . being wheelchair-bound, ANY excuse to be away from home is good
3) Friends offered to pay for lunch at Trails End - OK, the price is good with my 40% discount.
4) But, a glitch.
. . . from bus stop, Pioneer Hall and TE are an uphill grade all the way
. . . the wife would have to help push the wheelchair as I push on the wheel rims
. . . so, a 5'2" wife would push a 6'3" husband uphill about 80-90 yards
. . . can girls get hernias?
. . . not cool, or kind
5) Decided to do Sanaa (one of my fav's)
. . . good Indian food
. . . very tasty appetizer Mai-Tai
. . . very tasty meal second Mai-Tai
. . . using elevator, basically a level path to/from valet parking to eatery
. . . very tasty post-meal third Mai-Tai
6) Did I mention the tasty Sanaa Mai-Tai's
7) However, AFTER LUNCH, we will drive around The Fort, as I haven't visited in a while.
8) Good chance to visit other CM's, and two guest families I know who are staying on-site.

You'll have lots of strength to push yourself with the Mai-Tais and whatever pain Rx you're on ;) :drinking1

Be patient Scupper it'll sort its way out as you go.

Funny thing is, I've walked that sidewalk from the bus stop to Pioneer Hall dozens of times and never considered that it was uphill, but you are right, it is. I guess I just never thought about it. If I was there, I promise, I'd push you and still pay for your food.

Indian food just never has set well with me, then again most Asian dishes don't.

At least you still have plenty of time to post on here with us.

I have merged all of TheRustyScupper threads so everyone can keep up with his recovery. Glad to see you "keep swimming" Scupper.

Glad to see you "keep swimming" Scupper.

1) Sometimes seems a little Swimming Upstream and/or Against the current, but, yes, still swimming.
2) While out yesterday for doctor appointments, stopped at Sanaa for lunch (one of our fav lunch spots).
3) Picked the wrong day (busy-wise), but had fun.
. . . the SEATER at the podium knows MrsRustyScupper, and asked if we wanted a PRIMO table. (We said somewhere quiet was nice - she laughed.)
. . . it was Manager Appreciation Day, and salaried folks could stroll in a get a table. (Park Hourly CM's get free hot dogs and chips on Appreciation Day, managers get "real" food.)
. . . the Lunch-With-An-Animal-Specialist was underway near us (huge table with only one CM - she got really loud trying to talk to her 12-person group)
. . . All Star Sports had a positively large group of managers and marketing-types entertaining sport-group clients (They took almost the entire "side room" of Sanaa.)
. . . the "usually quiet" restaurant was more like a deafening roar
. . . but, we got used to it
4) A guy from AS-Sports came over and bought me a Mai-Tai to repay "favors" I did for him and some of his guests. (A really nice gesture on his behalf.)
5) Food was good, and as expected.
. . . we had the bread-service with all its side accompaniments. ALWAYS a highlight of Sanaa.
. . . due to the size of the lunch crowd, it took 25-minutes to get the bread, but the Mai-Tai's held us over until then.
. . . we did appetizers for lunch, and this filled us to the brim, and could even finish them
. . . did not even have room for dessert

NOTE: Our favorite Sanaa lunch-time SERVER is not there, as she was able to move to the dinner crowd (better tips). The lady at the podium made sure we got "TIM", instead. Very pleased with him. I like it when SERVERS come around frequently to see if you are satisfied and if you need any attention. It makes you feel like the SERVER is really a WAITER of long-ago. (Do people even remember the quality level of true "waiters"?). Personal Opinion: I don't like the title SERVER, I want to be waited-upon, not just "served food".

Heck Scupper, at the restaurants I have here in Meridian I'm lucky if I get "served" I sure as heck won't see "waited on".

Keep us UTD on things.

The girls say "Hello!". They also said we need to get back to visit. Guess it's time to start planning...

Being a "waiter" was an honorable, life long profession not that long ago. In the years I used to travel to New Orleans (on expense account) to feed/water the clients (grateful for their business I was) before the tornadoes and hurricanes, there were restaurants where the wait staff were full time employees of the restaurant who remembered what I ordered last time, could recommend the wine to go with the meal, and were attentive but unobtrusive.

It sounds like Tim was the same way. There are some people who "get it" still. Rusty, it's no doubt people care about you and want to repay favors given. As we used to say, it's good "to see and be seen". :smokin:
