Should say “ Throwaway Room vs Buying EP”

My family consisting of 4 Adults and 1 under 3 toddler will be spending just one day at the Universal parks in mid May.
We will definitely be getting EP since we have a limited amount of time. But I’m debating on getting a room for the EP if the price is right. What price of a room would make it a better deal for the room vs EP? Right now it seems a room is around $389. Do they ever go lower?

Thanks!

It’s a little hard since the price of the EPs vary and they CAN sell out day of in the park.

The big thing to know is that the room will have EPs for check in and check out day so you get 2 days of EPs for 1 night (which is only useful if you’re going multiple days).

The other thing is that the hotel EP is unlimited so you can ride a ride multiple times. Most of what you’ll buy at the parks is single EP use. Although you can buy multiples they just cost more (assuming they still have that).

Op, the price uou listed for the room, does that include the additional charges for the 2 adults?

If so, run the numbers and compare a deluxe hotel to a preferred or value hotel plus ep costs and see which one has a price you can live with

The deluxe hotel free ep is unlimited usage

The ep you buy per day is restricted to a one time usage

There are two types available for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Universal Express-Unlimited is available for use for an unlimited number of times

  • 2 Park pass from $99.99*
  • Specific park from $89.99
Universal Express Add-On is the option to line jump for only one time per ride

  • 2 Park pass from $79.99*
  • Specific park from $69.99
*The two day pass can be used at either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.

These are STARTING prices. If you want unlimited express pass for 2 parks for 4 adults...any throwaway room under $400/night is going to save you money

If you are only going one day, a room at a deluxe would also give you early entry one morning, which may also be useful. You could also take a break in the room with the toddler at some point if necessary. Also, I believe priority seating at some of the restaurants.

Yes to all of this. For four adults, the throwaway room will be cheaper AND you get the extra perk of priority seating and a place to go relax for a bit if needed. And yes, OP, the room rates can go down depending on occupancy. If you book it now, you can adjust the rate by calling if you find it has gone down.

OP, you don't say where you're staying, but sometimes people plan for it to be a throwaway room but find it works out better to stay the night there while maintaining lodging somewhere else (i.e. a house rental for a week, but stay here one night mid-week). The hotel includes EP for check in and check out day, and the cost for a 2 day ticket isn't all that much more. Plus, Uni is running a promotion right now where you get 2 days free if you buy 2 days (restrictions apply depending on your dates).
