What are those Dining Central threads up there???

Early in the life of this board, many discussions centered about meals and how and where people ate when they traveled solo or as adults without the kids. In chating back and forth about our experiences it seemed that there were two basic groups. Those that were a bit timid about dining at a nice restaurant when traveling solo and those that weren't. These two groups did have one thing in common, however. Those that were comfortable dining alone, and did it a lot, said; "We still really enjoyed and often prefer company when we eat." Those that weren't so comfortable with the idea of a solo sit down meal, said; "We certainly would do more such meals if we had someone with whom to share."

So then, the birth of the Dining Central threads.

These threads are a place for all of us to link up with one another for meals during our trip. If you have a place you want to go, have a PS for a restaurant and want to share it or are looking for someone that wants to share their table with you, those threads are the places to do it.

There is one thread for each month. Right now they are up for the next four months. Soon we will be adding November. We didn't want to have too many up there at one time as the top of the board would be too crowded.

So please don't ignore these threads simply because they say Important:. Look past that and check them out. Important really does mean something good. They are there for us to link up with each other and get to meet in person, a few of the other great DIS'ers that we've gotten to know here on the board.

Good post, Bob! You sound like a professional moderator for this board! Take that as a compliment, too.

I'll be anxious to see the January, 2002 Dining Central Thread in a while. No need (in my book) to start planning meal times now that I'll be eating next year. Hope other "soloists" are going in January. I'd like to try the California Grill...never been there.

Thank you. <img src=http://members.spree.com/entertainment/ubocs/smilies/pokeballs/aim11.gif>

When will you be there in January? I'm going in September but I'll be back for New Years (12/27 - 1/6) so I'll be there for the first week of January. I feel sure that as time draws nearer, there will be a number of us going at that time. We will have to plan a "mini DIS meet" when everone's plans start to come together.

Excellent post, Bob.

You don't have to be travelling solo to use the Dining central to find someone with who to share dinner, either. Do you?

By no means, Kath, do you have to be solo to link up with others in the Dining Central threads. Quite the contrary, everyone is welcome!

I probably should have highlighted it more but you may notice that I even said in my original post; "... when they traveled solo or as adults without kids." :) I focused more on solo travelers probably because I am one and just felt that solo travelers deal with this more than those that travel with others. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the majority of my experience at WDW has been as a solo traveler.

We have already had some adult couples reply to some of those threads. It was certainly my intention that they are there for everyone on this Adult and Solo Traveler Board or anyone traveling to WDW for that matter.

Bump :bounce:

They are still a new feature and I want to make sure that everyone knows what they are about.
