What has been your strangest work related injury?

got to be at christmas time when it was really icy and spilling over on the ice and hurting my backside.

I got out of the work truck, slipped on ice and fell flat on the ground. Then when I sat up the wind blew the truck door and it slammed into my head.

Not mine - but I saw a pastor giving a childrens sermon kneeling down bending over the kids and one of the kids jumped up unexpectadly and hit the paster in the face with the back of his head and broke the pastor's nose. That's gotta be fun to explain to workers comp.

Probably not “strange” but back about 1994-95 I partially amputated the tip of my left index index. It’s several cm’s Shorter than the right.

I worked at a coffee shop, just as espresso was becoming popular. I still get a shiver explaining how I did this, but it involves the coffee bean grider

I was on my way to work and fell when I was getting off the bus. I landed in the biggest mud puddle and twisted my ankle. I called a cab and had them take me to the hospital...still covered in mud lol

I was on crutches for three weeks and couldn’t go to work because our office was on the third floor and there was no elevator.

We had a truck door with a torn strap. I’m short, so to close the door, I would have to jump up, grab the strap, and pull the door down with me. At some point, the tension cable broke on a previous shift & it wasn’t reported. So, I jumped up, grabbed the short strap, and the door came down on me like a guillotine. No broken bones, but it knocked me on my can (off the head & collarbone).

I fell on ice leaving work in January and knocked myself out for a couple of seconds... but a couple of years ago my office chair malfunctioned and the back that should have been locked upright released and dumped me backwards injuring my back. I loved having to explain to my PT that my office chair tried to kill me...

Not really strange as a lot mothers have probably had it happen but in child care, a child was sitting in my lap and for some reason jerked backwards and head butted me in the eye. Blacked my eye.

As a waitress, we had a spill in the dining room. The manager told the brand new dishwasher to mop it up. Well he mostly just moved it around and called it mopped. I came out the kitchen door, hit the water and my feet went in the air. I popped up and finished what I was doing but by the end of my shift I couldn’t move my shoulder. Had a small fracture.

I fell into a dumpster once and hit my head. It was the recyling dumpster, one of our employees realized she had lost her Mom's ring in her recyling bin, which I had taken out to the dumpster. I was just going to sort of lean over and kind of stir things around and got too far in and fell in. I didn't want to report it to HR or Wkmns Comp. but my best friend was HR (I was head of bookkeeping) and she insisted I fill out a report. How embarrassing to have to say I fell into a dumpster.

My BIL recently suffered a bad work injury.
He's in construction, and a cement wall next to him buckled. He "felt" it just about to happen, and started to move away....luckily, or it would have killed him. He didn't get completely clear, and the cement pinned his leg.

He ended up with a serious break, requiring surgery with plates and screws.
He also had muscle and flesh torn off of his leg as he was trying to escape. The surgeon couldn't completely close the wound that goes from just under his kneecap to almost his ankle. My BIL is mostly likely going to need more surgery including skin grafts.

This happened the first week of June, just 2 weeks after having their second child. The doctor says BIL will not walk completely under his own power until around December!
My poor SIL has 2 babies to care for and a DH that needs a lot of help too. Thankfully we are all pulling together to assist.

I worked in a casino and we had coin counters. When a bag was full, you had to change it out with another canvas bag. Someone hung the bag wrong and I was called to get the bag off. As I was lifting it off, someone bumped into me and fell into the coin counter. I ended up cutting up my nose and 2 black eyes

I spend a lot of time on job-sites and have never had a mishap out there where they would be most likely to occur. My only incident was similar to yours where I was reaching for something in a drawer and my chair tipped over, wedging me between it, the open drawer and the wall behind. I guess I should think about my office demeanor because when I yelled for help nobody came - they apparently all just though I was mindlessly ranting to myself "again". :rotfl2:I ended up scraping a 5" chunk of hide off my back extricating myself.

My first year as a science teacher, I was cleaning up microscope slides. This tiny piece of glass called a cover slip got caught on something and broke as I was wiping it off the counter. I knew that it cut my thumb, but didn't realize until weeks later, once my skin had healed, that a piece of it actually got lodged in my thumb. Now I always have a memory of my first year of teaching anytime I press on my thumb just right.

Not me, mine are usually pretty routine but one of the guys I work with.

We have a fire escape just off a main conference room. Sometimes the guys will climb up it when they park out back. Well he made it up fine but back down, not so much. I heard a small - oh no - then a thud. Luckily he hit a car trunk and slid from that into a pile of leaves. I offered to call an abulance but he just got up and walked away.

Oh and this same guy once shot himself in the leg pulling his rifle out of the trunk. o_Oo_Oo_O

im with the pp and the evil office chair - i went tonsit down and i caught just theedge adnd fellonthe floor, and the chair flipped and wacked me on thheadhe

Not an office injury, but happened on the office softball team. A few of us were out practicing our patting after our volleyball game (another work team). I hit one that was a little high and it came off the bat directly into my face, right between the eyes. I went straight down and leaned forward. I was so proud of myself for not getting blood on my volleyball shirt. Lol

Luckily, I wear glasses so they helped spread the impact, but I had two black eyes for about six months. Instead of going to the hospital, we grabbed an ice pack out of the first aid kit in my car ( nobody made fun of me for the kit after that. Lol) and we went to get frozen yogurt, because... you know... ice cream heals all wounds!

My bosses were afraid to ask me about it because they thought I had gotten beaten. Nope... did it to myself.

Did you take any time off? I only ask because I work with tons of very athletic yet apparently extremely clumsy people (beer league may have something to do with it ;) ). Absenteeism due to sports injuries this time of year is off the dial!

Several years ago, there was a child in my special needs preschool class with extreme behavior issues. She had just turned five, but was very tall and strong for her age. One time she grabbed a pair of scissors and crawled under a table. We removed the other kids from the area and tried to coax her out. She threw the scissors and they nicked the back of my hand. Another time, she grabbed the little metal mallet that's used to play the triangle. She threw it at me from just a few feet away, and it hit just below my cheekbone. It left a bruise, but I didn't think much of it at the time. A few weeks later, I had a routine cleaning with my dentist. She noticed dead gum tissue in the area where I was hit. She took an x-ray to make sure the roots of my teeth weren't damaged, which turned out fine. She said I had a fairly deep bruise in my gums.

We documented the child's behavior for several months and regularly called our principal to observe her. She was finally moved out of our class and into a private program that could better address her needs. She's now almost 12-years old. I saw her last week at our school district's summer program. She's a lot bigger and a lot calmer. She actually said hi when she walked by.

My stories would be of the wounded pride variety not so much the wounds, like when I came back from the powder room to a fancy NYC lunch with Credit Suisse and had tucked the skirt of my suit into my drawers. You can't get worker's comp for such injuries though.

:rolleyes1Maybe not, but I know a few people at my office that would apply for a paid stress-leave.
