The Frechette’s Disney Wonder Trip Report

Date - December 6-9, 2001 Three day cruise

Cast of Characters - Helen & Gary Frechette, our daughter Karen, her husband Larry, our 10 yr. old granddaughter Britt & her friend Michelle, a friend of my daughters Lynn, her son Jason and a friend of her son Alexander. 9 cruisers.

Thursday December 6 - Left Ormond Beach about 10:30, arrived at Port Canaveral at about 11:45. Checked in, no problems. As soon as we finished checking in they started to board. No real hassles boarding, good security, but efficient. Headed to deck 9 to Beach Blanket Buffet for lunch. Good buffet. Had the first night for Tritons so rather than try and hustle we decided to try and change the rotation, no problem at all. New rotation was
Parrot Cay, Tritons, Animator’s Plate. We checked out our cabin - 2585 was nice, split bathroom, one with shower & sink, other with toilet & sink, twin beds together, a couch & bunk bed. We then had to get ready for the mandatory boat drill. The side we were on faced west and the sun was real hot. Once that was over we dumped the life preservers and headed up to deck 9 for the sailing. The characters were up on the deck and the party
was on, it was about 4:30. At 5 PM the whistle sounded and off we went. We waved to the cast members on the dock who were waving back with Mickey Hands. Waved to the boat that was leaving right after us. Watched the dolphins follow us and jump. Once we go out into the ocean it really started to get windy, so we headed down to the cabin to get ready for dinner, we had the first seating. All our luggage had arrived by then. Headed for
the Parrot Cay for dinner. The ship was really rocking, some of Olga was still in the area. Parrot Cay is aft so we really got to feel it. My son-in-law felt it the most. Helen, who we all felt would be the worst, came through with flying colors. At 8 PM they had a Christmas tree lighting in the Atrium. It was a great site. They had the characters dressed in holiday clothes and picked a family to throw “pixie dust” on the tree to light the tree.
At 8:30 Helen and I went to the show, Hercules the Muse-ical, it was a cute show. At 9:45 off to the Dueling Pianos. When we went in, we saw our daughter & son-in-law, sat with them and watched the show. Then off to the 70’s disco, another fun time. Went up and had some pizza then off to bed. Ship really rocking, heard stories about a lot of people sick.

Friday, December 7. Up at 7 and off to breakfast at Parrot Cay. As we were eating we came up to Nassau. It was a nice site, we were sitting near a port hole and could see every thing. Went and changed to go to Nassau. Had to go through security to get off the ship, needed photo ID plus room key, they swipe it to see who is ashore and when they get back. We took a carriage ride through the downtown area. They really travel with those
horses, especially for us, because down there they drive on the left side so it feels extra funny. When we got back to the area, a man wanted to take our picture with our camera, the driver got mad and he took our picture, as we were leaving they were really having a war of words. We went through the “straw market”, it’s now a tent since the fire, not impressed, have been to other islands so there wasn’t really much to do other than go to
the casino or to the Atlantis Hotel. So we headed back to the ship. It was now lunch time so we went to the buffet for lunch. That afternoon they had a cute show call Island Magic. It stared Mickey of course, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale and Caption Hook. For us “Kids” it was fun. We rested, no nap, then it was time to get dressed for our “fancy” dinner at Tritons. Only about half of the people really dress for this, but we felt it was nice to do one night. After dinner, we went and changed to leisure clothes then went to another show, Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer. The prizes are ship board credit and the main prize is a 7 day cruise for two. No one made it past $80 ship board credit. They then had a great Deck Party up on deck 9. Every body dancing, then cast members doing a dance, then the characters doing a dance. Once that was over we went to another nite club and watched karake. You not only had to be drunk to sing, but had to be drunk to listen, so we left and headed to bed, now after midnight.

Saturday, December 8 - Castaway Cay!!! We docked when we were sleeping so up to breakfast at the buffet, down to put on bathing suit and off to a little piece of heaven. It was now 9:30. Picked up the snorkel gear, did a little snorkeling. Just rested for a while, then to Cookie’s for the BBQ. The food was good especially the ribs. All you can eat. Did a little shopping. Then it was time for my 25 minute massage - when finished everyone
said they could see the difference, all tension gone. We went back to the ship just before we were to pull out. Helen & I ordered room service for coffee. The girl showed up with
2 large cookie’s and would not let us pour our own coffee. Said this was the last day for pampering so enjoy. We changed and when on deck to watch the island disappear, sadness. That night we had dinner at the Animators Palate. It not only was a great meal, but the atmosphere of colors were a show in itself. Our server & assistant server were great. It was nice having them “follow” us from restaurant to restaurant. Our whole crew
had some pictures taken in front of the ship background in the atrium, which we purchased the next day. I had purchased a ship model and they had the Captain in one of the stores to sign any ship item, so I went and had that done while Helen started packing. We interrupted it to see a show called Disney Dreams, a great show. About a girl who wants to make dreams come true, Peter Pan helps and they go through many of the Disney type movies, like Cinderella, Little Mermaid and so forth. As we were leaving, a women said that it was not what she thought it would be, but it was nice for the kids. Helen & I, being senior kids, agreed. Finished packing, put luggage out for them to pick up by
11 PM, then off to see the movie, Monsters, Inc. cute movie. Movie over at midnight!

Saturday December 9 - Time to leave. Took carry on luggage to breakfast, then purchased the last of our pictures then off the ship. Like people said, it is a breeze to get off the ship. From the time we stepped off the ship till we were in our car was no more than 15 minutes. That’s getting our luggage, with a porter, going through customs, then to the parking lot.

Each morning we had room service deliver coffee before going to breakfast. This took no longer that 15-20 minutes to get. Would highly recommend this.

We are now ready for the next cruise. :D

I enjoyed reading your report, Gary. Glad you had a good time, and I know what you mean about being ready to go again! Will you do the 7-day next time? Hubby and I did the 1/13/01 7-day Magic to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and we are booked on the Magic (Western) for 1/18/03, already counting down the days, 398 to go!! :D I see you live in Florida, so you have the ability to go to Disney a lot, I'm envious! :D We live in Michigan and although we've been to Disneyworld several times, it's still not enough! We're hoping to semi-retire within 5-10 more years and plan to spend 6-months (November - April) in Florida, which I've heard is the length required to become "Florida residents" then we can spend more time at Disney AND take more cruises!! :D

My wife doesn't want to be away from home for 7 days, we have two dogs and she misses them when we are away. Don't think she missed the kids that much, or me for that matter when I was on a business trip.
We enjoy going to Disney - :earsboy: we are about 1 1/2 hours door to door from the World. We go about 3 times a year and almost always stay on site. We just purchased the DVC last month and already have booked for April. Planning on December and most likely a cruise sometime late 2002 or early 2003.
When you come down you can get the Florida Resident Seasonal Pass, only days not valid or the week of Christmas thru New Year's, Easter week and during the summer months. Also, they have a Disney Dinning Card for Florida residents, cost about $50 and you get 20% of almost every resturant. About the only ones not included are the fast foods, and the ones in Swan & Dolphin. Included are the food courts in the resorts.

I really enjoyed reading your report! I'm so excited ... I just booked the 3 night cruise for April 11th!!

I have had people tell me the 3 night is not worth it ... but it's all the time we have ... DS has that Thurs / Fri off school and they are running a special for that date.

I figured it was fate!

I disagree that the 3 night cruise is not worth it. Maybe if you've been on a cruise before and were looking for complete relaxation. This was our first cruise and it was a nice taste of a Disney Cruise.
All I can say, is go, have a ball, and try to get some rest, :D ( if possible).
