World Passport Collection

We're thinking of joining the Disney Vacation Club when we go back to Disney World in December. We'd want to have the Beach Club Villas as our "home" resort and already have the guide, which has answered most of our questions.

It's a bit vague though about the World Passport Collection and the bit which worries me somewhat is where is says "most World Passport Collection accommodation require a 7 night stay". With some of the places included in the Collection, we'd only want to stay a couple of nights... would this be a problem? For example, we'd probably rather spend a week in Austria, splitting our time between Salzburg and Vienna. Can anyone help?

Also, is there a list of how many points you use on hotels in the World Passport Collection? We've got information on all other resorts, but not these.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Hi chezp

The World Passport collection is mainly for weekly stays - you swap a week at your home resort for a week somewhere else. There is no list of points for this, the guide book says "that the number of points required usually falls within the range of the Choice, Dream and Magic Seasons for a one bedroom or two bedroom vacation home."!! Very helpful for pre planning!! Then there is the Concierge Collection which is for bookings on a nightly basis at some very nice hotels, but they are mainly in the US. This is also an "expensive" way of using points, as rooms per night can use anything from 20 to 80 points, depending on when and where you stay.

At the moment though there is actually ONE hotel in Salzburg and ONE hotel in Vienna that although are in the World Passport collection, can be booked on a nightly basis! There are a few others in the Tirol and some others dotted around the world! But I don't know how many points they would require - you would have to find out from your guide, and this could make planning you use of points quite difficult.

The only thing that can be completely guaranteed when becoming a DVC member is that you will always be able to book at your home resort, everything else can change from time to time, so those hotels may not be available in the future.

Hope this helps

As Becky says, all offering outside of the DVC resorts are offered via programs that can be changed or withdrawn at any time. While , IMHO , it is likely that Disney will always be in a position to be able to offer these programs you do need to take that into account. Using these programs often isn't an economic use of your DVC points but they can be useful in extreme situations.
