So does this mean that for a party of eight or more they will actually give you the bill for the tip since they say they automatically add it?

Nothing is official, probably not even decided, but one of the posters said the "automatic tip" will be applied to parties of 6 or more and to the checks of all guests using the DDE discount program. Disney had to give something back in exchage, much easier to give something back that doesn't cost Disney anything.

Thats how DH and I are. We tip based on the service. I set up a tipping thing where we tip $1 - $5 depending on service. If service is VERY horrible, the most I'll tip is $1 or nothing at all. However, my stepdad brought out a good point one time. He told me its more of an insult to tip 1 penny then nothing at all, cuz the waiter might think we just couldnt afford to tip or forgot to. So being that said, the worst service you can ever think of, 1 penny. If its perfect then $5. As for $2-$4 - $2-$3 depending on what happened with service, and $4 if it was good but not great. There are times I wont tip at all. Like one time me, DH went to applebees for dinner with 3 friends. Well for starters, the waiteress was OK. I expected more from her, cuz I actually worked with her before at another job. Then applebees decide to run out of chicken? :confused3 I ordered, she didnt tell me straight off that they were out of chicken and came back and told me like 10 mins after I ordered. Then on top of it all, the didnt fix my DH burger right. Then all of us ordered drinks, a couple beers, I ordered a strawberry daquire with no alchoal, and it took FOREVER to get our drinks. Our food came out before the drinks did! Luckly the manager caught wind of this and came and told us the drinks were on the house. So yeah, it was a pretty bad meal. DH and I are not doing the DDP. We were considering it, but my biggest fear was not using all the credits. About 98% of our breakfasts are TS (character meals mainly) so which means we might not be hungry for lunch and the dinners are about 98% TS as well. So I could end up having all these CS credits going to waste PLUS I dont like the fact that the tipping is included believe it or not. I like to tip my own amount. If the service is bad, they get the most $1 - NOT 18%! I mean say the meal came to $50 - thats a $9 tip, they most certainly wouldnt deserve if it was horrible.

Hmmmm...alot to consider. On one part kinda brings down the fact that everything is paid upfront, another is that some guests won't tip even with great service, and another is that bad or indifferent servers will have to earn their tip. I am a tipper, I appreciate the hard work, but I have had times where I have tipped less for bad service (even left a penny once just to let server know that it wasn't because I forgot but because of service-also complained to manager) and i have tipped more than the usual when the server was top notch.

Are you saying the most you'll tip is $5.00? No matter how much your bill is, the max you'll tip is $5.00?:scared1:

I really hope I read your post wrong.:sad2:

Nope you read right $5. We dont go by the amount of the check. We go by service. Im sorry you dont like it. Everyone has their own way of tipping. I dont complain about how much everyone else tips, so why are you? Most of the time we go out to eat is only about $20 - $25, so they are getting about a 20% tip!

How much does a server get from a meal. I get the feeling they push you to get all on the ddp to boost tickets. When we were at prime time cafe we didn't want apps but the server really pushed it, saying give it to another table or just try it who cares if you eat it's free.

When we get our meals they are so much money!!!! That will add a big expense to the budget if we have to tip.

I am sure the pay for servers will go down if they are not guaranteed.

Aonther issue is at a buffet I don't tip as much. If they are only bring ing me drinks I don't feel you need to tip 20%.

I's sure I will get yelled at for this.

The servers get 18% on the DDP. Dont worry not yelling here. I dont see a point in tipping someone to bring you a drink 20% either. Maybe a dollar or two.

Keep in mind this is for home. Olive Garden, Apple Bees, Texas Roadhouse, and Lone Star. As for dining in Disney. My tipping amount will still not change any. It will still be $5. We arent rich people. We cant afford to be forking out 15-20% tips on a meal thats gonna cost us between $50 - $100. Only reason we are gonna be able to afford to eat at TS places down there is only because Im saving up $1600 for food, including tip money and we will be eating at 6 buffets, so really dont see the need of tipping huge on the buffet meals when they are just bringing drinks.

Oh yeah just an added note, we live in DE so there is no tax. Another thing to help keep costs down, we dont buy deserts. Instead we just eat what we have at home.

Where are you eating that the cost is so low?

Nobody in your family is a waiter or waitress, are they?

If the only way you can afford those places is by stiffing the server, then you shouldn't be eating there, period.

No. What does that have to do with anything? :confused3 I know they only make about $4 an hr (here in DE anyway). But giving them like a 20% is enough. How much do you think someone should give them? $100?

If you tip $5 on a $100 meal you're not giving 20% you're giving 5%.

So matter how great your server is, they will get stiffed on the tip.

Saying you can't afford the tip and the meal is like saying I can afford a cruise, but I can't afford to tip the staff. The two go hand in hand. :sad1:

I have a few friends who do the same thing. We'll go out to dinner. They will rack up a huge tap, then want to toss a few dollars on the table.

I'll only go out with them if we have a large group going. Since restaurants here add the tip for large groups, they have no choice but to tip the correct amount. (We split the bill evenly)

Oh so just because we can only afford a small tip we shouldnt eat there period? That is so rude of you to think of that. We arent stiffing the server. We are doing what we can afford. Theres a difference there. In my opinion the people who really deserve the tips are the cooks. THEY are the ones that are preparing your food. Not the waiter. All the waiter has to do is take your order, bring your food and give you a check and thats it. I've done a lot more in my old job working at a retail store, then they do and only made $6 an hr, didnt hear me complaining. And what about those who dont tip at all? Theres plenty on people that dont tip. They dont see the purpose or just cant afford to. I think its stupid for those who dont go out to dinner only because they cant afford to tip. Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? You would rather give up spending time with your family and enjoying a nice meal out only because you cant tip. I feel so sorry for those people. Cuz its obvious you care more about the server then your ownself or family. Im sorry Im not gonna be like those people who only go out to eat when they can afford meal and tip. Im not gonna say oh we cant go out to eat cuz we cant afford a thousand dollar tip. If we can afford a tip, fine. If not, oh well. The server will live. They arent gonna die because we only left them a small tip or no tip at all. When I go out to eat, I dont think about tipping the server. I think about spending some quality time with my husband and enjoying good food. When the bill comes, THEN, I think about the tip. I think about how good the food was. How good the service was. I look at all the lil details that most people wouldnt cuz I am a secret shopper. And sometimes I do have to go out to a restraunt.

If the only way you can afford those places is by stiffing the server, then you shouldn't be eating there, period.

Amen. If you leave $5 on a $100 meal you're actually costing the server money. Why? Because they get taxed on what their minimum tip should be which I believe is 12%. So, yep, you're charging a server for good service.

I was just about to post the same thing. I could never look someone in the face and just tip them $5. I would never show my face again in that place.
