Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 4

I finally started on Zoe's Halloween costume. I'd bought some cute green wings earlier this month with no specific plan and she decided she wanted to be Tink. Well, as cute as Tink is, her outfit is kind of plain plus not really warm enough for this time of year in our area. I decided to use lime green for most of the outfit but I'm adding fall colors as accents. Here's what I have so far:

Question for you all! Why do you sew? I guess it sounds totally vain to say that I sew because I want my DD to stand out in the crowd. I LOVE the oohs & aahs that come when she is wearing something that I have created for her. I find it extremely gratifying. I love responding to the question, "where did you get that?" with "oh, I made it!" So, how vain is that?

SO, the reason I wondered about that - our family went to the Pumpkin Patch yesterday. Of course, my DD had on a pair of jeans that I had embellished. Everyone LOVED them! And so did my DD, and so did I! So I guess that's what matters, huh?

Anyway, here's a pic!

I love love love your work you have such talent. I should have bought wings but now I am stuck ear deep in opal like fabric trying to get two pairs of wings out of the mess I have created. I am working on traditional Tinks for the twins not the princess type. I am ok with them wearing turtle necks underneath but I don't know if I should make some green pants or have them wear tights. Any one have any suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

Just finishing up my thanksgiving outfits - i have a question -

im not sure if the dude at Joann's gave me wonder under, or wonder under light - is there a way to tell?

also, if i did use the light version, can i just do the edges of the applique with fabric paint? or will it not stick? i embroidered one pair of jeans, and am not thrilled - couldnt find a clear foot for my machine, and since i am a newbie, the turkey was a tiny bit tough,,,,

thanks, wendy

I ended up using 5 1/2 yards of fabric for the pettiskirt and could have used even more but I bought all that the local JoAnns had. It's not as full as a Kaiya Eve pettiskirt but it works. :) I want to make some kind of sheer overskirt that I can attach leaves and flowers to. That way the pettiskirt can be easily worn with other skirts later. I have some stretch velour (in lime, of course) to use for a leotard and leggings.

We have a super JoAnne's and they have nothing like this. I truly hate to go there. But it's the only fabric store we have. Walmarts is closing their fabrics in January.

these are the most creative I have seen in a while! AWESOME

I finished Tessa's Cinderella pumpkin dress!! However, that's not what I'm posting because my computer is acting like a brat at the moment. So, here is Tessa's costume, instead! She wanted to be a fairy, but I talked her into being a "Winter fairy" seeing as how she'd freeze her butt off in the store-bought costumes. We went to a party yesterday, so she got to wear it. I just covered up her tinkerbell wings with this fabric so I didn't have to deal with trying to make them myself!

I was so frustrated with screwing up the dress that goes under the robe, I wasn't going to finish it. But, she looked so sad when I told her I wasn't going to finish it, that I went ahead and did it.

I know it's been a while since I've seen an apron dress around here, but I have a question about them. The pattern has you putting buttons on and I"m not quite understanding the directions. Would anyone who has made one explain the buttons to me or take a picture of theirs?

I can't wait to show you all of my creations for our Thanksgiving trip! Just have a few finishing touches left!

The buttons go on the little corners of the apron top that goes under the front of the top. Hmmm that doesn't make much sense. Then the little strip of fabric with the two button holes on it connects them in the front of the child under the front (across the belly) The Front of the dress has ties on the same corners and then you tie them across the back of the child.

It makes a lot more sense when you actually put it on your DD.

Here is the back of the completed top. The buttons are on the pink part of the top.

Here is the front of the completed top. You can't see the buttoned part but it is under the front "Flap" If you don't use the buttons then the childs sides would be hanging out so to speak.

Hope this helps

Wow great costumes everyone. I need to get DS cleaned up but I will be back to post pictures of my DH as Jack Sparrow. He is wearing a "semi-homemade" costume.

T-beri Hope you are having lots of fun on your vacation. Good Luck with your twirl skirt. What happened with the ruffle sounds exactly like something I would do! Sounds like you made lemons out of that lemonade!

Can't wait to see Pictures of MNSSHP.

Heather-

LOVE the darling girl (such a cute little thing), LOVE the dress and the cotume (can TOTALLY understand why you had to finish it because of the look of disappointment on DD's face)

But PLEASE TELL ME.......

What the heck is that HAIRY THING on the fireplace ???

I was wondering that as well, it has a handle. Do you carry it around?

Tessa looks beautiful and the dress is gorgeous. Glad you got it finished for her. If I had to look at that sad face I would cave too. Can't wait to see Cinderella!

You ask why we sew? Well, for me there are several reasons.

1. I like DD being dressed nicely and looking cute! It always pleases me when she is in something unique.

2. I too like the compliments from others - DH, strangers, etc. Vain yes, but true.

3. It is fun! It's my new hobby but I just need to stay motivated with it.

4. It is cheaper to make her a custom holiday (be it Halloween, Christmas, etc) outfits than I could buy them for.

It looks like it might be a trick or treat basket. Maybe?

OH OK...I'm understanding more now about the button placement and get that but...

I'm going to sound like a dunce now...did you sew the part with the two button holes to the wrong side of the front? Wouldn't that put a rectangle on the front of the dress?
