Wow...Outrage over Stroller Rental Price Increase...What's that About?

I cannot believe Disney would be so unfair. There has to be some reason. Are people stealing strollers and Disney is compensating for the cost? Still not right. I have always brought my own stroller but for our trip April '08 I was considering renting. Forget it now. So sad, It would have been more convenient for us and I agree that the monorail & busses are going to be a nightmare!

Can you imagine trying to pass a Disney Stroller off as your own? Imagine Stuffing it in the minivan to try and take to the mall:scared1:

I wish everyone just brought their own strollers. The ones that Disney has are sooooooo wide they take up way to much space! A simple fold up stroller is small and takes up a lot less room.

My guess is the size of the strollers and the massive amounts of room they take up by the rides, Disney is trying to make more space for everyone in the parks.

You could always go to WalMart or Target just outside of WDW and buy one for less than the rental and then decide to either take is home with you or leave it at a resort for someone else. Just an option, not trying to get flamed.

I do not have kids BUT I have visited WDW with my niece with a stroller and it was a major PIA! We did much better just to go without and carry the kid.

That would be a great thread to have here. DISers could sign up for a left over stroller. We could name the strollers and put a certain decoration on it and keep passing it down.

I can already see the horror at park closing. Disney is going to need that extra money for the security guards they will have to post at the bus stops. You already have wheelchairs now tons of strollers too. Oh my!! :sad2: Think happy thoughts, Think Happy Thoughts. :dance3:

yup forget about the tea cup fight
this will be worse as the buses wont hold as many people because of all the strollers

We have three umbrella strollers but all three have a weight limit of 35 lbs. and most of the umbrella strollers that don't cost boocoo bucks have that weight limit. My 2.5 yr. old weighs a little more than that and while it is probably still safe to put him in our strollers I'd hate to have him in one and then have the wheels pop off or it collapse because he weighs too much. We used to rent the double because if our oldest was in the stroller the youngest sat just fine, but if he were to see big brother out and about then the youngest would start hearing "Born Free" and take that as his cue to get out. Too easy for little ones to get stepped on when not caged/confined in a stroller.

We were just at Disney and at the toy store in DTD, you can buy a single stroller for $40. I know it's more than Walmart, etc. but it's cheaper than renting. The strollers looked nice and they were the umbrella type.

the budget boards folks have been doing stroller swaps for *years* now... don't know if they have any in process, but i am sure if not, they will soon enough... it was simple, one poster bought a stroller and left it for the next guest to pick up at the luggage room... usually they were organized by resort...

I think they want everyone to buy one in the gift shop and not rent from them. That is terrible how they raised the prices.

We have two of those  . They are Kolcraft Tour Sport strollers with 35lb. weight limits.

Shaking Head!

For a company that is wanting to really focus on the under 6 set (magical Beginnings, Moms Panel and the like) they sure are making a mess of things. $31 dollars a day is still $25 too much in my opinion. When you can buy an umbrella stroller and bring it with you for cheaper than 1 days rental it is just sad. For $270 you can get a really nice stroller, and be able to bring the sucker HOME. Whoever came up with this idea is just counting on watching the dollars roll in, but I'll tell ya, you have to get on that mentallity, a mom is a smart cookie and she will be resourceful. There are Wal-Marts that surround Disney it isn't an Oasis. If Disney was looking for a way to kill their rental business I believe they just found it.

Do you think that is why they are doing this? So you BUY a stroller from them instead of renting one?

I just can't imagine Disney's thought process behind this. I mean, I know their thought process about raising prices, but by 72%??? There's gotta be another reason besides profit.

I truly feel sorry for the family who has been budgeting and saving for their Disney trip for a year...or two...and don't have the extra money this is going to cost them when they show up this week or next and they don't even know about the increase and then might have to decide on-site between a stroller and keeping their Chef Mickey's reservation or their daughter's BBB appointment or whatever. Sad. :sad1:

Been reading\posting in another thread regarding the stroller thing, but I'm wondering if anyone here might know. Disney Visa card holders get free stroller rentals in Disneyland. (Must be nice). Wondering if WDW might even consider a discount for a card holder there? Kind of seems really out of whack if they did not offer something like that!

I hope Disney gets FLOODED with complaints. I think maybe they thought they could "sneak" this increase by us. It goes into effect in 2 days!

I'm just so angry over this (I feel like Pete) it's just disgusting.

Here is the email address. EVERYONE should email Disney about this!
Stroller renter or not.

wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

Thanks for the link. I emailed them. My kids are older, so I dont want to go out and have to buy a stroller. I rent them for the kids to relax in when they need it, and to store all our bags.A small increase OK, but this is crazy!:sad1:

I was actually thinking the same thing. It would be more cost effective to rent a car and stop at target on the way from the airport. You would have the added bonus of a car to get to DTD and resort restaurants other than your own quickly!

we went 8 trips this year on APs from NY and we rented a stroller from WDW each time, I WILL NEVER RENT AGAIN from WDW at these prices! Im def up for a stroller swap, and I own one I may start it with! ;) What a crazy price increase! A few dollars I understand but $$$$$$

I too sent an email today............

OMG i just heard the bad news. WOW that is steep! I pay $18 for the double on our visits but now will not pay $31.

I just emailed them . . . we're way past the stroller stage, but when you add this on top of things like required photo packages at the princess luncheons and price hikes for dining during peak seasons -- it's just one more straw. We camels can only take so much!

I just emailed also. My kids are out of the stroller age but my cousin has two little boys and was counting on renting a double stroller. I just called to break the news to her. She was NOT happy!!

Craziness:confused3

Kimba

I just checked -- Walker Mobility will rent an EVC for $30/day! That's the answer -- let the kiddies drive themselves and save $1/day! :woohoo:
