2008 Disneyland Half - Who's Going?

OMG!!!
I can't wait to get my double medals, I am sooooo excited and it will be worth it to fly out to CA and do a half marathon in the scorching heat. :cool1:
I am still up for asking about an earlier start if their is a heat index warning.

Tracy,

From last year's race program, the Race Director's name as Jon Hughes for Disneyland Half Marathon. The president of Disneyland Resort is Ed Grier. The mayor of Anaheim is Curt Pringle. The race Medical Director is Rick Csintalan, MD. His credentials read assistant chief of Orthopedics at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County.

Hopefully these are leads to any of you out there who want to write and give them suggestions.

New Medal sounds KEWL!!!!!!
Can not wait...

Oh I noticed that Safeway has 3 day park hopper passes. Will look into those.

You can email DisneySports@Emmi.com . I think there is zero chance as the race already set for 6:00. As an RD, road closures and entering Angels Stadium are set long in advance and can't be changed. They could possibly change the course to skip running on the baseball field. The Angels play a 12:35 game on race day. Unless record heat, the race will be hot but over around 9:30 am.

This doesn't even to begin the logistics of being in the parks earlier.

We will be there with you to share in the fun:thumbsup2

Here is a a picture of the medal from someone that posted on my forum and I added to my website.

It will be really cool to have one:banana: . Everyone better keep up the training and hope for cool weather:)

A couple of questions from a DL 1/2 newbie....

Are there hills/overpasses on the route, if so, how many??

Also my aunt who lives nearby in Fullerton wants to "see" me along the route somewhere. Is there a list of suggestions of where to see the racers along the route??

Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Tracy

Tracy I do recall one overpass for sure and it was right after we left DL about mile 3-5. There maybe more, just don't recall, lets make offerings to the cool weather gods.

Tracy, DH and I did DL in 2006 and I only remember one overpass, before the halfway point (I think). Nothing else sticks out in my memory, but then I suffer from Sometimers Disease - sometimes I remember, and sometimes I don't. I am more worried about the heat than the hills though, but DH really wants that special two-fer medal!

Thanks, if there is only one overpass/hill, then I won't worry too much. That's better than WDW.
Yes, let's do make an offering to the cool weather gods...what should we offer them??? any ideas??

Today was pretty warm this morning 85 with pretty much NO BREEZE and I was pretty soaked at about 1/2 mile into my 6 miles. I kept telling myself it could be worse like in CA. :worried:

Tracy,

Technically, there are three inclines. One overpass just outside of Disneyland, near the Disneyland hotel and parking lot. Then when you turn onto Ball Road, you hit the second incline (looking directly into the sun). Both are just past the 3 mile mark. The rest of the way through Anaheim is all flat.

Then there is a small decline at right field of Angels Stadium, and the third and final incline exiting left field warning track.

I would recommend the parking lot at Angels Stadium, or downtown Disney for your aunt to watch for you.

Jeff, so true about into the sun, good recall on those inclines, also was there one after we left the dirt and into the stadium parking lot, short if I recall. I have a total blank of that race from leaving the stadium parking lot to about mile 12, man was it hot.

Scott is correct, there is that short underpass from the trail (right after where they hand out the Cliffshot Gels). Very short incline.

Thanks for the help everyone, I can now plan accordingly. I will try to plan for the heat, but not sure how to simulate dry heat here in humid South Florida.

Tracy,

Go get about 500 hairdryers, mount them in your hallway, turn them on HIGH, and run back and forth, back and forth, back, and forth. After 30 minutes, you'll get the idea on how hot it was just walking to the start line from our hotel at 5:30 am. :lmao: Once the sun came up, it got even worse.

If Pinocchio was here telling you this story, honest, his nose wouldn't grow!!!

Anyone remember seeing this sign, EVERYWHERE??? :rotfl2:

I have to confess that the heat is my primary concern. The inaugural year I don't remember it being too bad, but last year I didn't make the trip so I "missed out" on the 100+ degree days. I hope against hope we don't have to deal with that this year, but as I can't control the weather, I suppose there is no need to fret about it.

Sigh.

1st I think I have Robert to blame :lmao: I saw the photo and sent it on to my DH and Susan.

Well thanks alot Robert! ;) That photo started some serious emails between my DH and Susan and a few hours ago what pops into my inbox but an email from Active saying I am now registered for the DL 2008 Half. Thankfully Susan called minutes before I checked my email and told me she had race anxiety. I told her she had 6 months till Jan's race. No worries. She then tells me she is worried about the DL race. I start to feel those cold fingers on your back, you know the kind just before the sweeper bus runs you over? :rotfl:

Well it's my b-day in a few months (in case you missed that thread of Debra's LOL) and DH and Susan decided that the special medal was too good of a chance to pass up for such a special b-day.

Susie you can add Susan and myself to the list for the Half. I'm thinking we'll be cheering for the 5K. We're planning on flying in on Friday and home again on Monday.

So I think Susan is currently looking for her 2006 DL booklet to start reviewing LOL I think we are both slightly freaking out over the possible temps because in 2006 it was later in Sept and while it was definitely warm it was no were near as warm as your poor souls dealt with in 2007.

Susan just called and reminded me that we had trouble looking for powerade/gatorade in 2006. So if someone else remembers where to get it somewhere on property that would be most appreciated. I have powerbar's individual packets I picked up at REI as a backup and we will begin training with that this weekend just in case we can't find a bottle of powerade for our waterbelts.

We're very very excited with this surprise race/weekend. We're currently at just over 7 miles (it rained/thundered last weekend before we got to 8 proper) so we are in decent shape for a sudden half. :thumbsup2

Wendy can't wait to see you and your son again. Susie I think this will be the 1st time I've met your DH, say Hi to Cindy!!! And Pat I know you don't recall this but I screamed at you as we passed the mile 13 sign the lst DL race we did so I will be abit louder this time! :lmao: btw, I have a finishing photo of Pat going under the finishline and me steps behind, love that! this minnie I got a wonderful photo of Cindy, Susie and I finishing and in Epcot together and Mom got a photos of Krista and mein the ToT race. I love my WISH race photos. Very special memories and I can't wait for this new weekend to make more!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Those that I have yet to meet, woohoo!!!! Hi!!!!

It's going to be great!!!!! Ok back to bouncing off the walls. I have been going nuts for the last few hours since learning we are doing this. :jumping1: <<--- that is totally me right now!!!!

You are more than welcome:) Make sure when you fill out Active.com reg form to mention I helped. I get $5 for every runner I refer:rotfl2:

Look forward to seeing all of you at DL.

BTW: I have started "walking" around the house and stores today with my crutches or cane. Surgery was ONLY 10 weeks ago today. I have a lot of work to be ready for the 5K & 1/2 at DL:rolleyes1

I was reading about Erica's recent surgery and was wondering how you were getting on too with your recovery. I am positive you will be crossing that finishline and what a ride that will be having had that recently surgery. You have a lot on your plate going into Marathon Weekend 2009. But your experienced and I know you will train smart and be able to finish the DL and be strong going into January. Those medals will be that much sweeter :thumbsup2

I'm trying to get into active right now to view my registeration, not sure if it's my aging apple or what but I can't get in. I'm going to drop Susan an email and have her try. Maybe when she signed me up she linked it to her active.com. Or maybe because i am signed up but it's not linked to me ... I dunno but it's driving me batty. I like to be able to print things off and have it hand.

It's going to drive me nuts till I cross the finish line and get that special medal too. I know I know they say they have my data and I believe them but still there is that worrier gene in me :rolleyes2

I should probably make dinner before I start doing this....>>> :badpc: LOL
