Oooo, I think the Golden Corral needs to go on my list, if only to see my husband's look of disgust as he watches me eat dessert for breakfast! Sorry you had a bad KFC, I love the mash bowls from there, I am forever hoping we will get them here one day. So pleased you enjoyed HoB, it is one of my favourites.

Saturday 17th May

I’ll whizz through Discovery Cove just in case anyone is interested. The photos are on the waterproof camera so will post them once I get it developed! Breakfast was OK, cereal, fruit and danishes. Stick with the fruit and cereal – the danishes were not worth the calories! Very dry!

Lunch – we came here before in 2003. There is now a bigger choice and – more importantly – you can have as much as you like!! Before they had someone at the end of the counter to check that you only came in once and to check you only had two things (so entrée plus either salad, fruit or dessert). This was much better- unlimited! I had a caesar salad, a bacon and cheese burger, and key lime pie. TG had lots!!! He had a hot dog plus chicken strippers, strawberries, a giant cupcake and some choc cake. It was all nice actually, the service left a little to be desired (you so know when you have left Disney!). I love Key Lime pie (never had it before) its like the superb coconut flan at Crystal Palace, without the coconut! Both give 8/10.

Right onto Trails End. Never been here before. Booked it for three reasons. Ribs. Chilli. Fried chicken. All available on a buffet! This sounded too good to be true! :)

Now I’m sorry to sound like a frightful snob but we got here and almost left before we went in. :goodvibes We felt like we had walked into the Beverly Hillbillies before they struck gold!! I know, its meant to look like that, but we were still worried! But the lure of the ribs won so in we went. Waited about 10 mins past our ADR time to be seated.

Once we got in we liked it very much! We had a very good server, quick and efficient. There is a good choice of food, not as much as somewhere like Chef Mickey’s but still plenty, and all different food to the other buffets.

We started with a bowl of chilli each. Really good- thick and meaty and not too hot. There were little packs of crackers with it which we crumbled into the chilli (we had never had crackers with chilli before, but when in Rome . . .! It is an excellent idea! Yummo!!).
CIMG2592-1.jpg

Entrees – I had fried chicken (better than KFC but not brill), loads of mash (lovely), ribs (nice but they BBQ sauce dish was empty) seasoned wedges, which were good, pasta in pesto, and carrot. TG had pretty much the same, along with some big chunks of sausage, and a different type of pasta.

CIMG2594-1.jpg

There was a fresh carving station which we were going to have on our next plate, but the chilli was so good we had another bowl of that each instead!

Desserts – I though I had read before somewhere that desserts are charged separately here but that wasn’t the case (Maybe I imagined that)! I headed over to the dessert counter and found some cornbread hidden away so ate that with my desserts (not the best I have had but bearable)! Also had some brownies (very nice) and a rice crispy square (like stale, soggy cardboard, yuk!).
CIMG2595-1.jpg

TG is 9/10, I am 8.5/10! Would definitely go back, nice comforting food, and a bargain price – think it was only $17 each!:thumbsup2

Side note – maybe its not wise to have as much chilli as we did – TG was up with indigestion all night so we had to cancel our breakfast at Boma the next morning!!!

Side note 2 - we had chilli for dinner last night and TG surprised me by buying little bowls like we had here, and crackers, and serving it up like that! It cheered up the post holiday blues for a while! What an angel!! :lovestruc

Up tomorrow, POFQ breakfast, Earl of Sandwich lunch, 50’s Prime Time dinner.

It did! Think thats why he had tummy problems all night!!!:rotfl2:

Are you serious?!! I think the whole peanut butter and jelly thing sounds a bit weird, so peanut butter and chilli?!!!!!!! You're having me on!!!! Really?!

No really, we used to have it all the time for school lunch. Just peanut butter and bread no jelly. Dip your sandwich in the chili, yummy and I eat it with crackers to when I am out of peanut butter..

Enjoyed the update. I'm laughing at you having all the cornbread because I was like that last trip. Once I'd discovered it I made sure to eat it at every opportunity. It's a shame we have nothing like it in the UK.

I adore your report. I started reading it last night when DH said "You're not going to take pictures of our food are you?" Uhm, I guess not? :confused3 Just now DD5 asked where the pictures of the food are from. When I told her Disney, she asked if I was going to try all that food. I don't know but I'd like to try.

You should to venture over to Raleigh, NC sometime during the statefair in October. They have all sorts of deep fried concotions: candy bars, Coke, hamburgers, and my favorite Oreos. The oreos are all melty and yummy with the powdered sugar on top. Plus North Carolina is the original home of Krispy Kreme and Golden Corral.

DH and I have actually talked about going to live in the UK. His company was purchased by a London firm last year and I told him if he saw something good available there to go ahead and apply. He's seen a few things in Leeds and New Castle but he hasn't done anything yet.

You must go! He can't begrude you dessert at that price!!!
Mash bowl?!! I didn't see that! That could have changed the whole review - I adore mash!!!:(

Now, of course, DH wants to try it!! So I shall force myself to join him :rotfl2:

I know, we are seriously so deprived here! :furious: At least in the last couple of years we have been able to get Oreos and Reeces Pieces! That the only plus!:thumbsup2

You must take pictures to make us all drool!! Your DH will learn to enjoy it!!!

DEEP FRIED OREOS?!!! We would never leave! I seriously cannot even tell DH that, he will be booking the flights! I have never been to North Carolina but it sounds like perfection to me!

Yes come to England . . . we have been home 12 days and do you know how many days we have seen grey skies and rain? 12!!! :rotfl: Its June!!!! So I need to get him working for a US company and then engineer an international transfer do I?! Thanks for the tip. :thumbsup2

I only just found this today and I am loving it, you sound like you had a blast, and wonderful memories of my beloved POFQ, I can't wait to have 3 nights there in December, you are such a winky little thing, and so much food, well done to you, I am proud of you, you eat as much as I drink LOL (see trippie on the UK trip reports "Fancy A Magarita Love" and you will understand ... Cheesecake Factory looks yummy, I will definately be there in December. Can't wait for more x

I have to share my opinion on doughnuts in general and especially the KK. Here in Michigan, there are a few KK places and they are NASTY!!! We have this lovely doughnut and coffee shop from Canada named Tim Hortons that is so wonderful! They have these little doughnut hole things named Tim Bits that are soooo good! :yay:

WooHoo - Tim Horton's - thanks for giving it a mention. It's the number # 1doughnut/coffee/ fast food/ etc. chain in Canada. The stats speak for themselves. We have twice as many Tim Horton's as McDonald's and the store commands over 76% of the Canadian market for baked goods. Krispy Kreme never stood much of a chance in Canada against Tim Horton's.

DEEP FRIED OREOS?!!! We would never leave! I seriously cannot even tell DH that, he will be booking the flights! I have never been to North Carolina but it sounds like perfection to me!

Boma's will make you Deep-fried Oreos if you request it. I've seen several pictures posted on the DisBoards and we have a request out for the recipe from one of the Disboard members.

In New Zealand we have potato and gravy at KFC. It is a container with mashed potato covered in gravy... very nice I was very disappointed when I got to the UK and discovered you don't have it. What do I have to dunk my chips in now????

We also get extra seasoning on our chips, it is a chicken type seasoning and it is also very nice.

Hubby doesn't like chicken on bones (so we NEVER share a starter of chicken wings) so we don't go to KFC very often which is probably good I guess.

Loving your reviews but where are you putting all that food? You're both so skinny :rotfl2:

BTW we live in Kent now but my DH's from Wymondham and I'm from Lowestoft :thumbsup2

Good heavens! How did I miss these reviews?:confused3 I'm only on page 4, but wanted to let you know I am totally enjoying myself. Now, back for more....

Another lurker chiming in to say I'm loving your reviews! I can't imagine where you put it all, and I must confess that when I read this I start to feel very full, rather than very hungry!

We already have all our ADR's for our August trip, and since we're a party of 10 I doubt we'll able to be flexible, but we do have a few places planned that you've already mentioned (Boma, CP for starters). Keep it coming!

Really enjoying your reviews!

Cornbread is big in the States, esp. the South. Here in Texas alot of the restaurants serve Jalapeno cornbread.

My DH's grandmother is from east Texas (think deep South) and used to melt butter in a cast iron skillet on the stovetop, put in the cornbread mixture and then pop it in the oven to cook. Gives it a nice, crispy bottom.

Ready for more?!

Sunday 18th May.

We were booked to have breckie at Boma today which I was really looking forward to, but if you read my last review you will know TG overdosed on chilli the night before and was up all night with indigestion so we had to cancel. Oh well, something new to try next year! So you guessed it – more beignets! Only this time as TG wasn’t very hungry I got to have two of them – yey! Look at those beauties!

Shared a choc and vanilla swirl icecream in (of course!) a waffle cone at MGM! Nice! 8/10

I was still absolutely starving though and we had Lights, Motor Action to get through before lunch, so I bought a 2-pack of the mickey head coconut patties they sell in all the Disney shops. These were SO moist – if you like coconut they are the way to go! Sorry, too hungry to take picture!

Earl of Sandwich again for lunch! And we both tried something new, shock horror!

TG had an Ultimate Grilled Cheese (Combination of Swiss, Brie and Bleu Cheese with applewood bacon and Roma tomatoes), and I, following numerous recommendations on these boards, went for the All American (roast turkey, buttermilk ranch, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato). We also had chips and a brownie to share! TG loved his! I tasted it and hated it, but then I hate brie so this wasn’t a surprise!! The All American was good!! Not quite up to the Original, but still a good 8/10. I just love that place! TG is a 8.5/10. :)

Cheese left, All American right

Dinner . . . 50’s Prime Time Café. Never been here before and sooooo looking forward to it! Our ADR was for 7pm. We waited, and waited, and waited. I kept telling TG that we couldn’t harass them as an ADR isn’t a guaranteed time blah blah blah, but eventually at 7.30 we were sick of seeing couples who had got there well after us get taken in so TG went up to the podium . . .
TG:- “Excuse me, just wondered if we can get an estimate of how long until we can be seated, as we don’t want to miss Fantasmic”
Hostess:- “Name please”
TG:- “G******”
Hostess:- “Hmmmmm . . . well you’ve already been seated”
TG:- “Hmmmm, No, we haven’t, we’re the ones been sitting right in front of you for 35 minutes”
Hostess:- “ Right . . . well this says you were seated at 7.05”
TG:- “Nope, here we are, no table and still starving . . . see that pale, shaking skelaton in the corner . . . that's my wife after not eating for a whole hour . . ."
You get the idea. The one time in my life I tried to be patient!! :rotfl2:

We were so happy to get seated we didn’t even get grumpy!! Mistakes happen so it was no biggie and we knew we could eat quick enough to still make Fantasmic, but the manager, who I think was called Eric, came straight over and told us we could have desserts for free! What made him think we were the sort of piggies who would eat dessert I don’t know, but it was a very nice thought of his!!! :rotfl:

We each ordered the fried cheese starter, I went for meatloaf and TG went for potroast, and then both had Smore’s for dessert. I subbed the green beans for corn. We also has a strawberry milkshake to share.

At first our server wasn’t really in part – I think she was aware we had been held up and thought we weren’t in the mood to be messed with. But we were remarkably perky and so she soon warmed up – she had me in stitches!!!!!!!! She told TG off for ordering the same meal and drink as me, really told him off for drinking his milkshake before the entrees came out, and then at the end when she caught me paying she slapped him SO hard for not paying. Honestly I thought I was going to have a heart attack I was laughing so loud. My drink was snorting out of my nose. I think she got the biggest tip I ever left (for beating up my husband, I’m nice huh!?!). In fact I was laughing so much I left the camera case and spare battery behind and we never did get them back – whoops!

Anyway onto the food. I could just summarise it as all perfect to be honest! This is now a place we will return to time and time again! The fried cheese appie was just perfect – ideal amount of the cheese and bread, and so gooey. I loved the meatloaf and TG adored his potroast (I have found the recipe of the potroast on these boards and am making it this weekend!). We’d never had either of these before so can’t compare them to anything but to us they were superb! (though TG didn’t like my meatloaf very much). Nice quality mash as well which is always a bonus! :thumbsup2

Milkshake . . . thick and good

Then smores. . . never had these before either . . . what little pieces of heaven are these?! And so much of them – I was feeling very sick by the end! The manager came out again at this point to check we were OK, and when I explained we had never had smores before and how good they were he told me how to make them. But we don’t have graeme crackers in the UK so he went and got us a pack to bring home – how kind was that?! I loved this place!!!!!

Smores from all angles!

CIMG2664-1.jpg

The only tiny disappointment was that the server read us out the desserts, rather than getting the little goggle things out for us to look through (what are they called?!), but again I think she was just trying to keep everything moving quick as we had been waiting at the start!

This is the first place we have both given 10/10 to I think! Really good fun but just a bit gentler (apart from TG’s slap!) than Whispering Canyon! I would definitely recommend it, but maybe chase your table up after 15 minutes instead of 30!!! :rotfl2:

Coming soon . . . Kona Café breakfast, Columbia Harbour House lunch, Ghiredellis snack, another goofy MYO snack, and Tony Romas dinner.
