When I was about 18 my mum had kidney stones, I thought she was going to die right in front of me, she was grey, clutching herself and collapsed on the floor. I didnt know what was wrong, it was terrible.

Oh not good! Its amazing how much pain such little things can make!

We were on the WBPC in 2008. We have a scary travel story there too. We were going from the port to the Grand Cali. Since our son, Patrick, is in a wheelchair they told us to wait and they would tell us when ithe bus was there. Anyway, by the time we got out to the bus area, they said that all the buses with lifts were gone! They put our luggage and my husband and our other son onto a bus. and Patrick and I got into a taxi. WELL THE TAXI DRIVER DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GET TO THE GRAND CALIFORNIAN! HE HAD TO STOP AT ANOTHER HOTEL CLOSE TO DISNEYLAND TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS!!! Can you imagine? :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

LOL! That's funny!

What's an ESTA?

ESTA is the new thing that the US makes us Brits complete, bit like the Visa Waiver programme. You apply online before you head over to the US and they give you a yay or nay to going into the country. They last 2 years and you just change your destination for each trip!

Ok, so I don't mean to start up stuff again but....when I went onto the DCL website under my cruise I had this message on the side:

Fuel Supplement Onboard Credit: The cost of the fuel supplement charge has been applied as a refundable Onboard Credit to this reservation.

So I called DCL to find out how much it is and they said I had to call DVC because they are the one handling the reservation. So I called DVC and they said that I don't actually have a room credit. They said that the only way I would get a room credit is if the cost of the cruise goes down.:confused3 I'm so completely confused! I'm wondering if I should call back again tomorrow to see if I get a different answer from a different person.

I know I read on previous threads on here that DVC members do get OBC but I'm not sure actually if any of them noticed this before the cruise. They got a letter when on the cruise saying they had a credit!

Making a quick pop in....

Back from a visit to Toronto-- got out just before the G20! Managed to dodge the motorcades on the way to the Pearson, but did get to see a lot of the bigwigs planes on the tarmac.

Now I am in a hotel room in the middle of OK driving to my folks house. We will be moving them out this weekend and will probably be there for the next 6 weeks getting things cleaned up, having a giant garage sale, and getting the house on the market.

Also have one more operation for my Dad to get thru. 3 so far in the last 2 months.

It has been a heck of a year.......

I was really hoping to have more planning done by now, but I have a feeling that I won't really get any more done until the end of August.

I will try to pop in from time to time, but unfortunately I most likely won't have time. I will be thinking about you and looking forward to the trip......

Hope things settle down soon Kathy!

Well, we finally made it home. I haven't been on in about a week. Can anyone tell me if I've missed anything? I'll be on day 3 of laundry here just trying to catch up on everything. I'm asking myself why we decided to host a 4th of July party this weekend and then my daughter's 4th bday party the next weekend. Oh well! Just brings us closer to the cruise date!! It was fun taking over 20 rings off the countdown chain!

You basically missed rants about FSC and who is and isn't getting it as it all seems very unfair and another mention of Spanex but I think thats around it, oh and lots of ill people bouncing around on here!

I am not allergic to tomatoes ... I just can't stand the things ..I don't even like to look at cut tomatoes with tha horrible gloopy middle :scared1:
I have a problem with kiwi fruit .... my eyes itch terribly and my eyes and lips swell up.

Hope you are feeling better today:hug:

Thanks Sarah. I am feeling better today. Throat has gone down so all good.

Don't blame you with the tomato thing. They are a weird texture/look!

I hate Kiwi! You are the first person I know to be allergic to them though!

Well he loves his iPhone anyway, so the new one was bound to be a success. He likes the extra things it does too. The new shape is actually quite nice, and it appears smaller than his old one. He went with O2 who he was with and has sold his old phone to one of those phone recycle companies(recommended by Martinmoneysaver) for a decent amount.

I have been browsing the Pacsafe bags. How much was the postage? Will you have to pay anything else like Customs charges etc?

That is so scary. John used to react like that to tomatoes, and anything with salicylates in which is Aspirin and some fruits. We had to work it out ourselves at the time. I was just terrified. He carried an epipen for quite some time and did go to an allergy specialist, but he couldn't cope with the harsh exclusion diet he started. We had a nurse friend who actually had worked at a private allergy specialists/hospital, and she said he shouldn't cut out tomatoes etc completely but have a tiny amount in the hope it would build up his resistance(or whatever). She said if you cut it out completely, then in later years mistakenly eat something then the allergic reaction could be much much worse. We took her advise and he is fine now. I still won't let him have Aspirin though.;) Oh, and i am not saying everyone should do this, just that it worked for John. Take care and perhaps get an epipen from the doc's!!

I also love my iPhone. When I got it two years ago, it was an economy measure. Round about the same time, both my phone and my iPod gave up. So I was looking at either paying around 100 Pounds each to replace both or 100 Pounds to get the iPhone. It took a little getting used to, but now I would not even consider anything else. I am with O2, too, but I am shopping around at the moment. I think I will probably stick with O2 though. If I do get the new iPhone, I have a different kind of recycling in mind. DH has an ancient Pay As You Go Nokia phone and even he is coming around to the idea that an iPhone might not be such a bad idea after all. So I might just get him a SIM only plan for the old iPhone so that he can figure out if he likes it enough to get his own.

As to the look, I always liked how distinctive the older versions look, but the new one just looks like a generic Smartphone to me. Still, I want to use it rather than have it as a fashion accessory.

My Overstock purchase did not work out. About 24 hours after placing the order, I got an email back saying that the order had been cancelled as they had been unable to confirm some of the details that I have provided. I have had the cards for years and never had any problems with this. The same applies to the billing address. I wanted to get the bag sent to work, so I wonder if this was the problem. I decided to give up and headed for Ebay where I found the same bag (just in red rather than blue, but who cares) for the same price. Now I am just waiting for this to arrive. One the Overstock invoice there was an amount for VAT and Customs, but that was so low that I would imagine that there would be some to pay when it gets to the UK.

I know what you mean about allergies. I am allergic to bananas. In my late teens, I developed problems breathing, which was diagnosed as anything from asthma to anxiety/ depression. I was treated for asthma and that did not do anything. They were going to put me on anti-depressants, which I refused as I knew that there was nothing wrong with me apart from that I could not breath. I have a number of allergies and when I still lived in Germany, I was seeing a specialist quite regularly. It just so happened that he was trying to pin point a new allergy that I had acquired and he used banana as an exclusion sample. It was virtually unheard off at the time that people are allergic to bananas. Needless to say, the only substance that I reacted to was the exclusion sample and that was a prize reaction. I used to live on bananas and once I cut them out, my breathing problems were gone. Cutting them out completely though seems to have made me more allergic. Now if I touch anything that contains banana and then touch my lips, it sets me off.

I'm so thrilled that you love yours! I'm still keeping this one in the running. BTW, as I was dress shopping on-line yesterday, look at what popped up in my search!

For your vow renewal, I think these dresses would be spectacular!

That definitely looks familiar. ;) Mine was a fraction of the price though.

As for the wedding dress, at the moment I can't make up my mind between those two styles, but I suppose I will have nearly another year before I need to make up my mind.

For both I am leaning towards ivory rather than white.

Well, I made a bold move today: I'm booked for Lasik next week! I'm planning on not carrying my glasses, contacts and solution with me on our cruise. I guess it is the ultimate pre-cruise shopping! Think of me next Friday and wish me good success and not too many nerves - I'd really appreciate all those good vibes. Contacts have been the bane of my existence, and night driving has gotten particularly bad with my astigmatism, I hate glasses. So here I am going to get lasered! The doc and I have privileges at the same hospital, and he comes recommended by my chief, so I am confident in that part at least.

Good luck. I am not brave enough. I got as far as booking the consultation and when they mentioned that they would have to put drops in my eyes for the examination, I chickened out. I cannot bear anybody touching my eyes.

I like to think of it as a "gay pride" Figment pin :rotfl:

I like this. Are there any themes/ characters that you collect in particular? I have to check my traders.

Corinna I love the second picture - think that's the Ivory one isn't it? It looks so unusual and pretty! Like the first one too though just love the detail on the second one!

Oh, I must go and have a look on Ebay. last time they only had the bigger one, and I want the smaller one. They do have another bag though, but it is quite thin and I'm not sure how much i would get in it.

I love both the dresses, magical.

John adores bananas so i am pleased he didn't react to those.;) Mars bars too. Goodness, he used to eat one a day!!:lmao:

That sandwich looks very interesting! Do you know if it was on the TV show, Man Vs. Food? When I was in Springfield, IL last year, I had the Horseshoe which was created there. I hope I'll get this right...

The one I had consisted of two pieces of toast, chicken breast, cheese, french fries and I think an alfredo sauce. It was so good...doesn't sound like it would be good, but it was really good.

Yes it was on Man vs Food. That is where i heard about it.

OMG !!!! Are there french fries / chips actuallly IN that sandwich. It looks enormous.

Yes they are french fries. This sandwich was about 9 in long and it only cost $5.75 Also if you can eat 5 in 45 mi. you get a sandwich name after you. I was full after 1.

Im sorry but I do not have any suggestions for your BIL. As Marilyn has said, it can be caused by a few things.
I know now, that I did have symptoms (which I ignored) for a few years before mine got intolerable. I was diagnosed 5 years ago.
You said in another post that they are giving him Morphine for the pain, this can make him very nauseous. I take morphine and for the first few weeks/months I was very sick, until my body got used to it.
I hope that your BIL gets diagnosed with what he has soon, so that he can then deal with it. You are very kind to be so supportive of him :flower3:

Yes you are right. It is gone from an evening out now, to a weekend away sometimes in another country.

This reminds me of the time we were in Florida and we went to a place called Cheeburger Cheeburger. Tony decided in his wisdom to try and eat the 1lb burger ... he managed to eat it, plus fries, and got his photo taken and put up on their wall of fame. He couldn't eat another thing for the rest of the day ( very unusual ) and didn't go to the loo for days :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Okay, it's early morning here and my mind is not completely awake so I really shouldn't post, but I'm so confused...'

All this talk about the airplane bathrooms, loos or johns.. the place where the toliet is... and the filthy floors.. and the socks I'm confused.

I've never flown overseas. Are you required to fly shoeless??? I don't walk barefoot in my own home. Why would I have to put on socks to go to the bathroom and let them pick up the nastiness?

Where are my shoes????? :confused3:confused3:confused3 What has the airline done with my shoes??? Why do I need socks for my freezing feet? Where are my shoes??? I'm freaking out here.:eek::eek:

:I am in for a 5am photo but, you know it will take some work to get Candida up:rolleyes1

Jon

I am so NOT a morning person - even on the cruise - so if we do this maybe we can just do this the same night we stay up and do laundry - then I can go to bed after that :)

When I was about 18 my mum had kidney stones, I thought she was going to die right in front of me, she was grey, clutching herself and collapsed on the floor. I didnt know what was wrong, it was terrible.

I had my first attack at 19 - have had 7 or 8 attacks in the 21 years since then - so about every 3 years! My father gets them more often, my uncle gets them and my grandmother had them - took them forever to figure out what I had because it is more unusual for women to get them - much less 19 year-old women. This is one of my biggest fears of being on the cruise - so I travel with my own pain pills because it is a terrible pain - worse than having both of my kids - and I did that naturally with no pain meds!

Yes it was on Man vs Food. That is where i heard about it.

Ok it makes me full just looking at the picture!

LOL - no you are not required to fly shoeless but many of us while flying on these long trips take off our shoes to sleep. If you have shoes that are harder to get on many just go without putting their shoes on.

I do walk barefoot at home - but wear shoes that I can slip on and off on the plane. I admit I try not to go to the bathroom on the plane - and can on short flights but not on the long ones but do try to limit if possible.

We flew airfrance coming home from the EBTA and they did give us a small packet with socks, sleep mask, earplugs, etc. but not a nice one like you get in first class. But we travel with the ones from first class as my DH often has them from flying FC when he comes home (he upgrades with his points) and he never uses them so we have them hanging around - so I take them with us when we travel.

Your shoes are safe on your feet or at your seat - the plane can get cold so the "socks" will just keep your toes warm.

Well i got my MRI results today. Well there is nothing broke, ligament damage or tendon damage. They found a slight sprain and fluid in the wrist. This did show on the last MRI and this one shows that it healing. They think that the fluid is causing the pain and swelling. They give me pills for that and they told to give it another 6 to 8 weeks.. It has already been 8 weeks. At least I'm not on any restrictions and I should be healed by the time of the cruise. :cool1:

Sorry its taking so long, take good care of yourself :)

Hello everybody. DW (PrincessShmoo) finally got me to register. I will probably be mainly a lurker, since DW seems to be keeping me pretty well informed about the goings on around here.

:surfweb:

Hi there! My dh doesn't get time to post anymore but will love meeting everybody :)

I have to share this with the group, Amy. A couple of us from our DIS Meets were (not literally) placing bets between one another that Dave would propose to Amy while they were at WDW MONTHS before September ever came around. In fact, we thought that maybe it would happen earlier in the year when Amy and her family went to WDW, so we were on the edge of our keyboards waiting to hear if it happened. No news meant it didn't. So for certain, we just KNEW it was going to happen right before the cruise or even ON the cruise. :goodvibes

Well I was at WDW for the week prior the cruise with no internet access, so I knew I wouldn't find out until we got to Port Canaveral. The night before the cruise, several families all got together for dinner at Grills. I found out then about Amy and Dave's exciting news!!! I just couldn't wait to see them!

So on Saturday morning, as you all know, you're just so anxious to meet everyone in person!! One of our DISers, Denise, who had many exchanges of PMs with me about our bets, sees me for the first time and comes running to me in the terminal saying "THEY DID IT!! THEY DID IT, AND I BROUGHT A COPY OF OUR PMs TO SHOW HERE WE HAD BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT FOR MONTHS!!!" :rotfl2:

OMG! Amy and Dave were our own celebrities!! :rotfl: Everyone was so thrilled for them!! So I'm walking around the port looking for her, and when I see her, she throws her arms out for a big hug and says "KIMBERLYYYYYY!!! I'm so happy to see you!" Although the hug was great, I just wanted to see the RING! :rotfl: :goodvibes

such a lovely story

Thank to everyone who posted their prayers and well wishes to my BIL Joe and his son Will. Here is an update:

I spoke with Joe several times since he has been admitted. So far, they think he may have Acute Pancreatitis but the diagnosis has not been confirmed. They have run numerous tests and drawn lots of blood for testing. His blood sugar when he first was seen in ER was 450 but now is down with insulin to 230. He does not know how long he will be in the hospital.

What is sad that on top of the almost $1,000 a month he pays for Kaiser, he tells me he has to pay $200 a day as a copay for hospitalization. Doesn't seem quite right to me, but he pays for his own insurance. Sure makes me glad for employer based insurance. DH is old enough for Medicare plus supplement but not me!! Lucky, as long as he works, we both will have full coverage on the excellent insurance plan his company provides.

Will is back home now. My sister Cheryl picked him up. She and her family were on their way back from Big Sur to Mt. Shasta. Though it was about a hundred plus mile detour, they were able to bring him home.

Will is concerned about his dad but acting like he is very mature young man. He has been through so much in his young life that I pray his Dad will recover speedily. I see more of his Mother in him every day. I think he will do well in life.

Just my thoughts....
:surfweb:

Will be thinking of you bil and Will, and saying lots of prayers for them:hug:

I have a similar allergy to mushrooms. Took me ages to work out what I was allergic to, and only after 3 trips to the Emergency dept did I find out it was mushrooms. My tongue and throat swell up so that I have trouble breathing and I now have to carry an epipen like others have mentioned.....:sad2:

DD and her BF are moving in today for a few months so things are a bit hectic around here. Samantha is interviewing for a job in San Diego today (second phone interview).

She and BF want to move to San Diego as she wants to go to Law School in Southern California. It didn't seem sensible to rent another condo so they are coming here.

If I miss any messages that are important, please PM me.

We will but she and BF have already filled 3 rooms with their stuff. They will be using the library as a family room for them. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are also filled. I had to move all my cruise stuff to another room.

Luckily, we still have a spare bedroom and bathroom but it will be pretty crowded if other DD and her family come to visit!!

She has been gone for quite some time so it will take some getting used to on all of our parts.

I think it is always difficult when an adult child comes home as one tends to revert to parenting them. She is used to coming and going as she pleases. I tend to be more concerned with her being on time and not making so much noise. Typical mother/daughter relationship.

Since DH and I are not especially fond on BF, it contributes to the tension.

Its a very difficult relationship at times isn't it, even with the best loved daughters...especially when they grow up and bring partners into the equation!
I wish you lots of luck

Let's face it - as a parent, we just want them to be healthy and happy!

YES!!!!! Absolutely!

I have just spent the last 2 days at my daughters student house where it took us all that time to clean it and clear it....7 students shared the house but there was just one other helping out...the others moved out and left all the mess for others to clear

I crammed dd's things into every nook and cranny of my little car but then Becky had to get the train home as there was no room for her! :rolleyes1 Next week we get to do it all in reverse when she moves into her flat for the next student year.......:confused3

I am exhausted!!!!:sad1:

Don't panic! You don't need to fly shoeless, in fact most planes don't allow you to fly without proper footwear these days - my sister got told she couldn't wear here birkenstock sandles on a plane last year and had to go buy a pair of shoes!

Most longhaul flights give you socks to wear around the plane but you don't have to. I wear them as find it more comfy than shoes"
