Epcot Wedding, NON-Disney Photographer ... What do we think of this?

OK - I have a question about all of this.

We are have an in-park ceremony next year as well as an in-park dinner and fireworks party. My neice is truly a guest at our wedding and happens to do photographer as a hobby. I was planning on asking her to take some pictures during the day....would that REALLY be a no no? I mean, she is a true guest, who happens to love taking pictures.

I asked the SAME exact question in my post, disney can't stop a guest or a family member or friend who is a photographer from taking a picture. It's one of those gray areas that everyone kind of dances around. I think just because you have the title "photographer" you shouldn't be shunned from taking a photograph at the wedding or at any in park event or vacation. The problem doesn't come when they are taking the photos it's when other people see them that did not have outside photographers allowed at their event that it turns into a big deal. I'm pretty sure if every past, present and future disney bride had a friend or relative that was a photographer (not a paid photographer invited as a "guest") they would have them shoot and that person would then put it in their portfolio or post it somewhere because how couldn't you, you put so much time and money into this event that you want to share it with everyone and trust me, i know I LOVE seeing all disney wedding photos - sadly its the highlight of my day :lmao: And i hope i can be so bold to say that no bride here past present or future would ever have a problem with a REAL friend or family member taking "professional" style photos (in addition to the reg photographer).

This photographer has in park engagement shoots on their site, so the odds that they were a true guest as opposed to a paid vendor "guest" are pretty low. I think that's where the difference is - are you paying for their services?

I also doubt this photographer had a deal with Disney to publish the photos in a magazine. Had Disney wanted to use this as a marketing effort, they would likely make the photographer sign the rights to the images away and they would not have been allowed to post them on their blog. If he is getting them published without Disney's consent and in direct violation of the 3rd Party photography agreement that all outside vendors have to sign (those vendors that Disney knows about that is), the photographer
could face some kind of legal action.

Edit: I just went back to the post and it appears Laura Kidd (from Disney florist) left a comment on them!! What the heck Disney!?

If you look at the most recent comment, posted today, it is from Laura Kidd, one of the Disney Florists. She is thanking the couple for letting them be a part of their big day.

Wow, Just WOW!! Thank you for the link and information. Jeez Disney, how about I make a copy of all these broken rules, grandfathered or not, take them to my wedding planning session and explain it to my face on how you really allowed them to have a photo session. =/ Not Fair!

My planner still hasn't responded to my email.

Does the bride or groom maybe know some kind of higher up at Disney that got this to happen?

I really haven't gotten hung up on a lot with my DFTW - I don't care much about the construction, I don't really care about the windows, etc. But this REALLY bothers me. One of the whole reasons I didn't have an in-park anything (aside from a DP) is because I didn't like having zero control over who would be doing the photos.

I had to say it's not fair and sound like I'm 5 but - it's not fair. :(

Posts like these with all this outrage are the reason why DFTW hates this board. Seriously, they can't do anything special for anyone without having 12 calls from other jealous brides wondering why they can't have the same thing.

I haven't weighed in on this topic yet, but will now!

So, wait??? This is our fault!!! Are you kidding me! Breaking their own rule for something this big is not "doing something special"!!! It is flaunting it in our faces that the rules are meant to be broken and we will look the other way on couples that have the balls to do it! Disney supposedly has the rules to make things fair for everyone. This is a big one for a lot of couples, me and DH included.

What you call jealousy is actually just wanting to be treated equally and fairly! We all pay our money to DFTW and should be all treated the same, not some get special treatment and some don't. People have a right to be upset about it and have a right to let Disney know! If Disney did allow this as a "special treat" to the couple, they should have told them to keep it quiet and off the website for 12 other jealous brides could find it and call them.

I hope I am not the only one who feels this way.

And exceptions to "apparently" hard and fast rules are the reasons that DISbrides and future DISbrides who use these boards to research DFTW get upset. Why should they do something "special" for that particular bride? And if it was a special circumstance then they should have given their planners an appropriate response to tell any brides who might call to inquire. One of the "selling point" of a DFTW is that every bride is supposed to feel special. These exceptions end up making other brides feel lied to or slighted.

Blah blah blah

The bride did not come on this board and say, "everyone look at my wedding! i had a theme park event and and outside photographer!" her pics were posted on a blog and someone happened to notice that some were in the rotunda.

self entitlement runs rampant here.

because it's none of your business why they did something for someone else!!!! why do you think disney owes you or anybody else an explanation for what they chose to do?

 I had a conversation this morning with one of the directors of DFTW about this issue. If anyone wants to know how that conversation went please feel free to pm me. :headache:

Because my opinion is unpopular here I am trolling?

I feel like I shouldn't have to explain this to "Captain Obvious," but, someone who jumps in a thread, insults everyone, then responds with "blah blah blah" isn't going to get the warmest welcome.

I didn't ask for a warm welcome :confused3 Just said I wasn't a troll.
