I'd love to hear what this great new brand of chews is :)

Schmass mentioned them, they're Honey Stinger. It's almost like eating the fruit chews I ate as a kid. I've had the Fruit Smoothie and Cherry Blossom flavor, and I have Pink Lemonade to try. They're also certified organic - that wasn't the deciding factor but I find them quite tasty.

Sorry - another ticket question. Can my stepsister actually go and purchase the discounted tickets herself or can I use her card to do it?

Argh. After an awesome 3 mile run in the falling snow yesterday (I actually like running in the cold more than the heat!) I was again overnight and today half crippled by shin splint pain. I got new shoes a few weeks ago, and thought it resolved after I didn't run for about 10 days while we were in Disney World. My first runs back were great, but now the pain is back. Any suggestions on what to do? Compression socks, roller, grin and bear it? This has never been an issue for me before!

I used to get very tight calves and shin splints - I have no problem with either now that I'm wearing compression socks for my runs. I LOVE them. I also wear them for recovery from the longer runs.

I wear Zoot Ultra.

I'm going to check around for a foam roller when we're in port on Sunday (Miami). If I don't find anything there, I can always order from Amazon - I found one for around $11 plus $5 shipping, but I'd have to wait longer than I want to get it considering I can only get mail every 10-11 days and if it doesn't get to our corporate address before our next Miami day I'd have to wait 21 days! These are some of the joys of ship life, people.

Got a pretty decent 5.5 mile run in this morning after a marathon work week... Felt pretty good and I was still able to do a circuit workout after.

Also got the hotel today for the race... now it just needs to be February!

Hi. Enjoying the talk about the supplements. I was kinda feeling like I was cheating when I was doing a GU before a long run:rotfl2: I can't stomach a gel during a run, but, definately need a boost. I like Jelly Belly brand Sport Beans. 1.29$ at Dicks. They are easily portable (fit in to a little pocket loosely), don't leave a sticky gel pack behind and are actually not half bad. I have only tried fruit punch so far. They are quite chewy and I need a sip of water afterward but are fairly yummy. Right now I do a GU 15 min before I leave and Jelly Belly Sport Beans as I feel I need. Sometimes have some left over which I can put back in the zip pack and save for next time. Planning on a 7 miler this Sunday in the cold PA weather. Wish me luck as this will definately be the longest run ever for me. And, good luck and enjoy your runs for those of you also doing your longest ever this weekend.

FlowersCroon- I and a bunch of others from here are running solo. DH may or may not make it to the finish line. He usually gets there late. I'm sure we can gather up a bunch of us Disers to meet you at the finish!

I'm running solo too. DH will be there somewhere to cheer me on though.

I will be running solo as well :) Happy to cheer anyone on, although, I will be likely towards the end of the pack!!! :)

Super nervous. I've taken time off to heal my hip, Sunday will be 10 days since I hurt it. Going for a run on Sunday. So worried its going to start hurting again...

Have you been to the Doc, I am going on 2.5 months of hip/leg pain, I am in Phyical Therapy and I just went to the ortho doc last night, they are still telling me its a "strain", and to keep up with PT and Aleve.
I do feel like PT is help, Now I only have the pain while running and not when I stop, so that is much better than being in pain always.

I so so so know how frustrated you are. Hang in there.

Getting ready to do an 11 mile run, switching to morning runs, since the princess is so early in the morning, better get my body use to long runs in the morning. After a night of only 2 hours of sleep, this will be a good test to see what I can put my body through! I am sure I will be too excited to sleep the night before the race!! I too, have new shoes, on my 3rd pair in 3 weeks, can't seem to find a pair that feels right, or doesn't give my shin splints, so glad I have an amazing store close to my house and I can return them if they don't work out for me. The right pair of shoes makes all the difference in the world when you have to prepare physically and mentally for any run, I am personally learning that right now, I agree, being fit in the perfect shoe is just as important as drinking water! Off to see how pair number 3 does, good luck to everyone running long distances this weekend, power to the princesses!!!

Good luck! I am off to do 10 miles myself.

I skipped my running club's 7AM (33 degree) start and am going with a friend instead, at 10. Living in NC, starting at 6:30AM in the summer is a necessity, so I am actually looking forward to some later runs this winter!

I have heard/read/believe that the sleep that matters is not the night before the race, but the one the night before that. So, for a Sunday race, be sure to get a good night's sleep on Thurs and Fri nights. Also, hydrate a lot on Fri and Sat but stop at about 8-9PM the night before the race.

I ended up switching my reservation to Port Orleans Riverside. If anyone staying there wants to meet up and ride the bus over together on race morning let me know. :)

I'll be staying at POR also and meet would love to meet up with a group, don't think DH and DS will drag outa bed that early to see me start but they'll be at the finish. Ran my longest run to date 11.23 miles in 1.59.23-pace around 11 min. Bring on theprincess: I can totally do this! I've cant believe how far I've come in 6mths and have lost 35 lbs to date. Wishing all the princess:princess: great long runs this weekend

Thanks! I looked them up on Amazon. I am hoping getting the energy from honey will mean they also don't have that upset tummy feeling. Ive been just using fruit snack or gummy bears as clif blocks made my stomach feel queasy.

I'm staying there as well! Just got the reservations yesterday! Maybe when it gets closer we start a POR thread to get everyone together? I'm down for a meet up though!

4.5 miles today in my new sneakers. I'm torn between using these or my old ones for my 10-miler next weekend. I'll use the new shoes through this week and decide on Friday. The new Asics are rather flashy this year.

So I been sick this week. Was not able to run on Thursday. Today I did my long run 7 miles. I had fever, no water, nausea and 50 degree outside but i finished the run in 1:45. My knees hurt and I feel really bad but Im ready for this.:thumbsup2

Hi All! We're traveling this week, so the running is all off schedule. After the 10K race on Thanksgiving, I've only done a 2 3-4 mile runs (on Sunday and Thursday). Hopefully we'll get back on track on Monday and then it will be a 10 miler next weekend.

I finally got tired of having bruised toenails on my 2nd toes (which are longer than my big toes), so I went and got fitted for a new pair of shoes-- I ended up with a pair of Brooks that have more ankle/arch support for overpronation. The 2 short runs with them have been good so far. (The store gives you 30 days to try them during which you could exchange them.) After 2 more short runs this week, do you think it's alright to just go for it with them on the 10 miles? I really want to see if I can get these bruises to heal with the new shoes.

It's so great to hear how everyone's training is going! I'm really impressed with those of you who run alone. I've done all my training with my running buddy (DP--we're racing as team) except on Thursday when I had to run alone, and it was really hard to just keep going, even for 3 miles.
