Discounted Annual Passes

Lots of us are in the same boat with arriving on the 29th and will be doing the same thing!

10/1/12 should be an interesting day, to say the least. I hope I don't get a clueless CM like I did at AK Guest Relations back in May.
We should all meet up and do these ticket upgrades together!

Long answer: Disney may deny the upgrade with special pricing since the activation date would have to be pushed back to the date of first use which would be before the 10/1 start date of this promotion. It's really all in how Disney handles those little details & the fact that some folk are upgrading within the 14 day upgrade restriction applied to MYW expiring passes.

I do wish everyone wanting to try this and the MYW upgrade luck and a compassionate Disney! Please don't take it out on the CMs if the answer is no - my son used to be one of them back in the college program - it's not their fault if they're just following rules. ;)

I agree with twinklebug, we must remember that this is a promotion that most of us will miss out on, either it be by one day or one week. I for one, have not been able to benefit by Disney's promotions, sales or events because my vacations plans have always been off.
This will be the first time I can benefit from anything Disney has to offer. Please all remember it is great if our vacations land in the middle of their sales, but if we miss out please don"t blame Disney.
Wish everyone luck with getting the tickets.
The promotion states, tickets must be bought between Oct. 1st and Dec. 31st.
I'm not trying to be mean, I just feel for all those CM come the 1st.

I bet this has already been discussed, but I just found out about it this morning so I wanted to share just in case.

I am arriving in WDW on September 29th and need new APs for my dad, daughter and mom. I called DVC to ask if there was any way they could honor the October 1st pricing, since we'd be there during the price change. She said they could not do that. But she said I could buy 3-day passes and upgrade them to APs on October 1st at the discounted price. I hadn't even thought of that, but it will save us about $150.00. :cool1: Some days I just love Member Services.

Buy discounted tickets from Undercover Tourist and you will save even more. Oh, I see you arrive in 3 days, so I guess that won't work for you. Well, for future reference!

So I already have vouchers that I purhased back in June. I realize I can not use these during this promotion....However, the one child AP I purchased did cost less than $399....should I upgrade that now and purchase the others at the new price, saving the ones I bought in June for next time I need them, or just buy 4 more now at $399....does that make sense...Also, if I hold onto the one child AP, purchased in June, by the time my DD needs it, she will be 10...do I just pay the difference at that point?

So I have two ap vouchers order, to pick up Thursday. I know I cannot upgrade to the PAP (don't get me started), but I buy a lot of stuff and would really like the 20% discount. Could I only pick up 1 of my ap vouchers and leave the other one on order till next August when my kids will need a ticket? Then I would buy one PAP to use this trip to get the extra discount. Or, would they give me a physical voucher at will call that I could save?

I posted earlier about wanting to start out on 9/24 with APs and then upgrade. As others have said, that would not have worked because the CM who helped us said the tickets we were upgrading had to be less $ than the DVC PAP, so we ended up getting 8 day non-hoppers (since my sister and her family were here for 7 days with no hopping anyway) and we'll upgrade tomorrow. The CM at MK Guest Relations was very helpful and helped to work this all out when I told her what I was hoping to do. :thumbsup2

Are they worth it or not? :confused3 we are going in April and have no clue if we will go back. I would like to for Christmas, but talking my hubby into that is a whole different matter. But wait, if our use year is December 1st, that means we cannot go that month right? Oh help me?:worship:

You seem to be very confused about use year. Use year is just when your membership year starts. So if you have a December use year, your points for that year are good for stays from December 1 through the following November 30. There is no month you can't stay.

That has no bearing on whether APs would be good for or not. Does the AP cost less than separate tickets for your planned trips? That would be the simplest approach to it.

Afterthought: you are a DVC and are saying you don't know if you will go back. I must be missing something in the thread, because that part makes no sense.

I'm uncertain why you think what your UY is places any restrictions on when you can go but it does not. With any UY you can travel any month of the year so yes, you could go at Christmas if you have a Dec UY.

Well I meant whether or not if we would go back within the year to use the APs. I thought it said somewhere that you couldn't do something within a 3 month window of your use year. Forgive me I'm new at this DVC business. Of course I'm going back, I'm just not sure when it will be. I asked the question for help not a so I could feel stupid.

I think she means she is wondering if she'd go back within the year the PAP was good for.

I think a lot of people will be jumping at getting these 399. PAPs who might not need them. Disney will probably seel a lot more PAPs(APs) then normal!

We need to make the decision ourselves--I've had an AP for the last 10+ years. Got a trip planned in January but am I going back within the year? I'd be hoping so but at the moment, I do not have anything planned. I need to figure it all out very soon!

Good luck everyone!

ETA: After seeing the length of my stay in January, there is no question that the deal DVC is offering for the PAP is the way to go for us. :)

There is the "rule of 4" but that applies to booking outside of DVC resorts and means that if you are in the last 4 months of your UY you cannot both book and stay outside of DVC (with a couple of exceptions). But that's at the end of your UY. So in your case if it was anytime from Aug 1st to Nov 30th and you decided you really wanted to go on a cruise on points during those same 4 months you would be restricted and unable to do it. But if you booked the cruise before July 31st you could.

If your stay in April is long enough and you think you might want to take advantage of the water parks and the 20% shopping discount it still might be advantageous to buy. Going a second time in Dec would probably make it a no brainer.

It is confusing for sure. But your husband will think you are a genius when you tell him how you much money you can save by buying the AP's and taking your next vacation before they expire. Of course Disney will suck the money you saved out of your pocket in some other way, they are genius' too, but you don't have to tell him that.

I wasn't trying to make you feel stupid - which is why I said I might have missed something in the thread since I didn't understand.

Just upgraded my 4 day hopper to the DVC PAP with no issues. What a great deal!

I was just over posting on a tread about TIW card and realized that the PAP offer also allows you to get the TIW card for $75 another savings of $25... :thumbsup2

So I called last week when I read this thread. I have 1 pass that I purchased in May and haven't used and wanted to upgrade that one and buy 3 more. Member services said I could do that but needed to that through Ticket services. After being on hold with them for over 30 minutes and then another 30 on the phone, they said I need to have DVC permission and then they said DVC had to do it.

So I call back in this morning and SURPRISE, they have no record of my phone call at all and said since I didn't have permission prior that I can't do it. First guy said what I purchased originally cant be higher than this price, then the Supervisor said thats not true and it had to be handled at Guest relations at the park. He transferred me to Guest Relations who picked up and then proceeded to put me on hold for 25 minutes and counting.

If they can do it in person, then they should be able to do it over the phone....

Member services just told me that you can't use any tickets to upgrade into this special promo...Anyone at the park who is doing this today, please update us on if you had any success!

The first report of successfully upgrading was just a few posts above yours. Perhaps MS cannot do an upgrade, but it seems that the ticketing CMs at the parks CAN. (If you will be at WDW during the promotion period 10/1 to 12/31.)
