I knew VGF would be hard to book but,

WOW! I didn't expect that. I was on at 8 am sharp this morning, luckily got the two studios I wanted, but went to check right after that and it's already blocked out for December 5th. Have any other VGF owners found it hard to get what you want? Do you think it's just because it's the first week of December?

First week of December is the most popular week of the year for DVC members. Add that to the limited availability (due to fixed weeks sold for that time) and I'm not surprised at all. Lucky you for getting 2 SV studios for that week!

Yes, I figured that being the first week of December had a lot to do with it. Plus next year you have the same "issue" that this year had, with Thanksgiving being so late.

Plus I always have to remember that there's what, only like 47 studios total?? And that's only if there are no 2 bedroom lock offs booked, which of course isn't the case.

I do want want to go until later in December, but yes, I have seen that the first day has been unavailable for studios. This was the major reason I was hesitant to buy a few VGF points. I've resolved myself to perhaps every other December 1 bedroom short visits because 1 bedrooms were available.

How much of GFV is declared? That could also be an issue.

Very good point. Between that and being new so everyone wants to try it availability will be difficult. BLT while much larger was difficult at first as well.

On a side note I was able to grab a lake view studio at GFV Easter week for 3 days last month. Just have to monitor and keep an eye on it. I happened to check availability AND the DVC app email was also sitting in my inbox alerting me as well.

Actually it is 70% declared and 30% sold so it is easier right now then when it will be once it is sold out. I had a bit of trouble switching from my gfv points to blt points for my gfv stay in July.

Omg really?? Lol. Figures.

I actually JUST bought 50 VGF points to go right before Christmas (12/20-12/24 or so) about 2 out of every 3 years (can't get off EVERY year). I had the same reservation but bit the bullet and will hope it works out. We really want it to be our "Christmas" place but may have to use the points for other times instead.

This is us too. We bought enough points to get us 3 nights (2 studios or a 2 bedroom) for that first half of December, every other year. I'm just glad I didn't forget this morning, or even postpone it for like 5 minutes!!

Is the third week easier to book? We plan to go December 13-20 but dont own there. Any chance I might get at 7 months? Not looking for studio though, we need a two bedroom. Planning to book at home resort first of courses then switch later if possible.

I think studios are always going to be tough to get at VGF because they sleep five and because they require fewer points than the one bedroom. And since all the villas at VGF take so many points, an owner there is going to want to save as many points as possible.

The third week is the easiest to book in December but I would expect it to be a few years before many non-owners will be able to book there in Dec. GF in general is gorgeous for Christmas and I suspect that many owners want to book that time. Once they have been a few years in a row the newness wears off and they might be willing to use their poiints other places although DH and I have no plan to use our VGF points anywhere else. If I can't get in when I want I will change dates or wait another year and do something but unless I just need 1-2 points to add to others to stay for a reason my VGF points are for at VGF.

Thank you. I appreciate your input. I would like to try it once but won't be heartbroken of I can't. I am happy at my home resorts, really happy to be at any any resort at Disney! I would like to try them all eventually. But if I can't that's ok too.

Third week will be easier but might start to get crowded towards the end with Christmas crowds.

I also think it will be a while before non owners can book there for December but I could be wrong.

It's hard to find a good time for e everyone to travel together. I am hoping that it will be a good time for our family, if not, I will pick a different week for the next trip.

Had the same problem this morning. Tried to book 2 nights (first week in December) at VGF for the first time with the 11-month window (we just bought in October). Only 1 night was available and that was checking at 8:02am ET! Yikes!

Now, this AM I could have booked a Lake view studio for 3 nights. For the actual dates I want, I would prefer the standard view, but would take Lake view. We have resigned ourselves to every other year. However, off years will be at VWL, so not a disappointment. We do own where we want to stay, if not for as long as we want to stay!

DVC Poly does not tempt me at all. Poly at Christmas is bland IMO, so I think it will always be at least this difficult getting VGF in December.

I was on this morning at 7:58 entering everything into my search so that at 8:00 I could see what was available. I snagged a standard view studio. This is our first DVC contract and we really like to travel in early December because that is when my birthday is. I was really nervous we wouldn't be able to get our dates. I started checking availability around Christmas and for a while, it was not too challenging to book, but around January 1st only 1 BRs were available without a wait list. It is such a relief to have our dates.

I found it much easier to book a studio at VGF for October.

Agreed. I booked November very easy, and even saw those same rooms available for weeks thereafter. I'm guessing it is the December time frame that is driving the demand.
