ADRs? Yes We Made Stinking ADRs - A June '15 Dining Report - Updated 10/10: Sassagoula & Wrap-up

We just got back from our food-heavy anniversary trip to WL and have put a stay at the Poly on our wish list. Hope you guys are having a great trip!

Wow how did I get 8 pages behind and now you are on your trip! I hope you are having a fabulous time and looks like you are down there during a perfect time as the crowds are super low! Can't wait to hear about the rest of your June trip when you return and hear all about your current food & alcohol fest I mean Disney vacation! :D

Anyway just a few little comments on all the posts that I missed!
Before happening upon this little hair threading place, where Casey was able to pick her own thread and beads and indulge in something I think was pretty unique to Animal Kingdom
We just heard about this and we were thinking about doing it on our upcoming trip but may just go with the clip on one!

The African Bloody Mary with vodka, Loaded Bloody Mary Mix, and spicy African berbere sauce garnished with berbere-rubbed beef jerky, a celery stalk, carrot, and parsley. I have no idea what loaded bloody mary mix implies or what berbere sauce is, but that really didn't matter because they apparently mean we are really darn good and you should have at least two per visit!
Love a good bloody mary and will go to lengths to find one so will have to try this if we ever get to Tusker House!

In case you didn't know today is the national holiday that officially marks the day of my birth, so what better way to celebrate than a long weekend at the beach ; ) Well ok, disney would be a better way to celebrate but only 16 days left for that !!!!
Happy Belated Birthday party: And like you said if you can't celebrate your birthday at Disney then the beach comes in as a close second. Where do you guys usually go to the beach?

From there we took a quick ride on Kali River Rapids, and unfortunately their warnings of you will get soaked came true for our clan
Jason looks very excited about getting soaked. It always seems like I am the one on the boat to get drenched so that is why we plan this ride at the end of the day!

It was a quick bus ride back to POFQ (complete with the lady next to me telling me how her daughter got her first period the day before on splash mountain #ThingsIDon'tNeedToKnow #HoneyI'mGood).
TMI ... can you say overshare!

Upon arrival we headed to Casey's favorite ride, Figment, where she proceeded to hold her nose in anticipation of the big smelling scene
How cute is this! Love the Mickey sticker on her hand.

I'd been wanting to try the brioche ice cream sandwich forever and finally the time was upon us.
This is on my list for our upcoming trip so I think I will stick with vanilla with either chocolate or raspberry sauce and stay away from the salted caramel! Thanks for the heads up since that is my husband's favorite and what he would have wanted!

Love this picture of you guys!

We'd had this wine in the world before and while it isn't going to win any awards its a decent bottle of Italian wine for under $15. As for the beignet's they were hot and fresh and cooked to order. They were very good and hit the proverbial spot, but a little dense compared to some of the New Orleans originals.
Sounds like the perfect ending to the day or at least a close second to the wine and cobbler!

Just a quick note that we got home on Monday and while the trip was great, I officially have the disney blues. Couple that with insanity at work and Casey starting back to school and this makes it even worse. But getting back to the DIS and food will help a bit ; ) Hope to get this bad boy rolling back along and catch up on everyone else's repots this weekend.

So while you're at Disney and staying at the Poly for the next 10 nights, I do hope at least once you will think of me sitting here on my couch, eating cheetohs and SEETHING WITH JEALOUSY. >:(

Seriously though, have a WONDERFUL trip. Can't want to eat vicariously through you when you get back! :cutie:
I thought of you often, especially when Casey was getting her face painted ; )

Very very jealous of your poly trip! However, I'm heading down to the World on Sunday, so I can't complain too much :D

Via Napoli looks absolutely fabulous. I am thinking I may have to eat here in January - we'll be doing fewer fancy meals to help our budget, but now that I know the pizza is big enough to share I may have to do it! I do love pizza, and it definitely seems like they do it right.

Looking forward to seeing your review of the Poly trip (and finishing up this one) - and enjoy your anniversary!
Hope you had a great trip, I know we did ; )

Please share a good marinara sauce recipe. Please!
Sadly I don't cook from recipes and base everything on taste just like my grandma taught me ; ) but I'll see if I can muster about what I put in it this weekend and send you a message ; )

Don't you know, the best beers come in big bottles??
The bigger the better!

Woah, that is a deal! How did you manage that, did you get a code?
No it was a special a travel agency that I can't mention here was running.

Excited to see what you think of the Brown Derby. It's been 5 years for us, but i'm dying to get back there for that cobb salad and grapefruit cake. #majordrool
While I didn't have the salad or cake, our experience there was not what I'd hoped. You may wanna slow roll that dying of yours ; )

OMGOSH! Usually these kinds of events come with good stories. You better have a good story to tell us when you come back. Our good story was that we were so wasted, we missed out on our reservation at Yachtsman. And our last bar stop was at the bar right next door :rotfl2::rotfl: Yeah, that's a good time right there ::yes::
Not as good as your story but our crawl was pretty limited due to a massive thunderstorm, but we drank it up none the less

I want to try this although...just a shot in the bottom...doesn't sound as good as mixed in throughout...sigh.

I have been away so long and now your trip is here!!! Gah!! I hope it's amazing and can't wait to hear all about it!!
If you get the rum dole whip just stir it up and you should be good. I would have done that had I not been clueless.

We're obviously back now and your trip must be right around the corner. Can't wait to catch up on your PTR

Have a wonderful vacation! If Territory Lounge is on the radar for your adults' night out romp, know that they recently changed their menu . . . and I don't think for the better. Maybe check out the updated online menu on disney dining reserv site. The great charcuterie board that I enjoyed as a light dinner in Feb is gone. But (and this is a nice, big but:-) ) the Artist Point Cobbler should still be available. That alone might make the stop worthwhile! ps I also had a great microbrew on tap when I was there. Of course, I can't remember what it was now but think it may have been sourced from the Pacific Northwest so a fun, unique little plus. They also have a few lovely loveseats and cushy, plush chairs. Just the place to rest up after a hectic monorail adventure. Enjoy!
Thanks for the heads up on Territory Lounge. I did read this while we were there and headed your warning. We ended up not getting over there, but thanks to you the plan was just for dessert and nothing else due to the new lackluster menu.

Have a great time!
Thanks we most definitely did!

We were in MK Friday for the day and went over to the Poly to have lunch at Kona & check things out since we're staying there for a couple nights in Jan. Even with the construction it still looked and felt so good there :goodvibes Have a wonderful trip & a very happy anniversary  Enjoy the Poly, looking forward to hearing all about your stay and your eats when you're back!
Sounds like we were there abut the same time. The Poly was great in spite of the construction and as you said it just felt good to basque in the flow of all that is the Poly.

Have an awesome trip!!
Thanks so much

Have an awesome time on your trip! The bar crawl sounds very fun, can't wait to hear all about your adventures. ::yes::
Thanks. Unfortunately our crawl was more of a sad roll but fun nonetheless

Where did you get the beignets? They look yummo
They are at the counter service at POFQ

We just got back from our food-heavy anniversary trip to WL and have put a stay at the Poly on our wish list. Hope you guys are having a great trip!
Ahh, WL or disney home away from home. Hope you all had a great time. We loved the Poly, but WL is our true resort love

You have a beautiful family!! Great reviews!!!
Thank you so much!

Wow how did I get 8 pages behind and now you are on your trip! I
i have a feeling I'm about 8 pages behind on your PTR and now you're 2 weeks away. So Same ; )

We just heard about this and we were thinking about doing it on our upcoming trip but may just go with the clip on one!
I didn't see the clip on ones, but so much fun and a lasting memory

Love a good bloody mary and will go to lengths to find one so will have to try this if we ever get to Tusker House!
They also sell the same ones at the Dawa Bar which is right outside tusker and you can get them to go. The have the one I got and 3 or 4 others. You should definitely try them.

Happy Belated Birthday party: And like you said if you can't celebrate your birthday at Disney then the beach comes in as a close second. Where do you guys usually go to the beach?
Thanks for the birthday wishes. We're right outside DC so we have lots of beach options in Delaware, Maryland, and of course my home state of Virginia all only about 3 hours away. We typically go to a little island called Chincoteague which is on the peninsula of Virginia. We love it because its like this tiny small town that just happens to be beach adjacent so its like a little slice of pure Americana. Plus our best friends have a house there so we go a few times a year.

This is on my list for our upcoming trip so I think I will stick with vanilla with either chocolate or raspberry sauce and stay away from the salted caramel! Thanks for the heads up since that is my husband's favorite and what he would have wanted!
Good call. Avoid that caramel at all costs.

Sounds like the perfect ending to the day or at least a close second to the wine and cobbler!
You clearly know me too well. If only you knew how many times we discussed our love and missing of wine and cobbler on this last trip ; )

i loved reading your trip report - you're hilarious! and now i'm hungry.

enjoy your trip!
Thanks. I'm hungry too. What are you making for dinner? ; )

Excited for your new report!! I may do a pre dining TR, we leave in 9 days so in that single digit dance mode this morning :dancer:

Aren't the Disney Blues the worst?! DH and I had thought we would be going to Food & Wine in a couple of weeks. I thought I was fine when I changed those plans but now that it is getting close I am sooo bummed. Looking forward to March with DS though so that is something! Looking forward to hearing about your trip!

The Disney blues suck...you plan and dream about the trip for soooo long...and then it's over....sigh. But reliving it here does help!

Let me know if you do the PTR. Need to live vicariously through you for the next few weeks ; )

The blues are definitely the worst. Good you have something on the horizon to look forward too. Not sure what our future plans are yet so blues are exponentially increasing.

Reliving it definitely helps. And of course keeping up with those who are on the happy dreaming side like you ; )

beignets and Via Napoli pizza in one day...sounds like a PERFECT day to me! Loving your report!
It was pretty darn perfect. Thanks for following along.

Ok, time to get this bad boy back on track so I can get the next food party started.

Our last full day in the world had us back at MK where we got spit on while
flying on magic carpets, saw the amazing wonder that is the backside of water, and met a thief and his tiger loving girlfriend

Before we hung out with some hillbilly bears, got stuck in a honey pot, became the 1,oooth, 1,001st, and 1,002nd happy haunts, and then forced our suddenly scared child on the wildest ride in the wilderness which we promptly commemorated with a memento of her survival

With some rumbling tummies and lunch on the horizon, we figured what better time then to potentially ruin our lunch with a classic disney snack....

This was Casey's first time eating the airy and cinnamonny snack and she promptly gave it a big thumbs up!

And a mere 5 minute or so after devouring our little fried dough snack we were at one of our favorite MK lunch spots...

The Plaza!!!!! For those that have never been The Plaza is a tiny little restaurant right off of main street that offers a table service environment with prices more reflective of counter service. It's the perfect lunch spot to get out of the heat and relax for a while. And oh yeah, the food is pretty darn good too.

Speaking of food, Jason elected to start his meal off with a good ole classic American vanilla shake

There was a cherry on top of this but some little girl may have stolen it the second it hit the table. As usual Jason loved his shake and even shared a bit with Casey (her Mama isn't a vanilla fan).

For his meal, Jason ordered one of my favorite Plaza menu items: The Reuben

This is a perfectly done reuben with tender corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, creamy swiss cheese, and just the right amount of Russian dressing all grilled up to a crisp perfection. Jason enjoyed it just as much as I have in the past.

Casey and I decided we were in the mood for some beef so a hamburger it was for us.

This is the Angus Cheese Burger which is served on a Flour-dusted Kaiser Roll with Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion. You also have a choice of other toppings of which we selected Cheddar, Bacon, and Grilled Onions. This was a great and juicy burger and the grilled onions were a great addition. I'd like to say the bacon was also good, but some little girl stole it all and didn't let her Mama have any. My only complaint was I'd asked for the burger to be cooked medium rare and this was decidedly well done, but good nonetheless. The fries, which in my opinion are some of the best in WDW, were crispy on the outside, perfect potato pillows on the inside, piping hot, and nice and salty.

Too full from the churro earlier for dessert, we ended yet another successful Plaza experience. Our server was good and attentive, the food great, the air conditioning much needed, and with our tables in wonderland card we saved $8.29.

After lunch we let Casey channel her inner @Elevationist and get her face painted.

She of course couldn't have been happier with her results and was happy to indulge us with a mini photoshoot.

After the face painting we were able to use the kiosks to get our 4th and 5th fast passes to spin around space like a couple of rangers and get shrunk by some pixie dust so we could hang out with a fairy.

With the heat index well over 100 degrees we headed back to POFQ for some pool cool down time before dinner. Up next, a new to us restaurant with an emerald isle flare.

Ahhhhh! She picked the same one that I'm wearing in my avatar! Your child has impeccable taste! I love it! :cutie:

Jason's Plaza milkshake looks delicious...although personally I would have gotten chocolate! ;)

I thought that looked familiar lol!!

Yours is the 2nd really good review I've read of the Plaza in the last couple weeks. We got ice cream there for the first time last month, but now I really want to eat there! Our Nov. trip is pretty full ADR wise :scratchin I'll have to look at our January trip :)

Casey has very good taste in food so I know I am in for a treat when I have my first one next month!

All meals should start with a milkshake! Brillant.

She is so stickin' cute and love the photoshoot.
