Yes but you put it on a credit card and you have time to pay it off and when you cancel it they get credited back.
I was on this thread last year awaiting the release of free dining and just wanted to give you all a "You can do it" message! I'm going with my husband this year November 4th - November 8th, for our 15th wedding anniversary and we are renting points at AKL, Kidani Village so I don't have to wait for a discount to be released! I got free dining last year and was able to apply it to my reservation via the "modify" button at around 5:15 a.m. on the morning of the release. From the time it took me to open my computer, and check out with free dining added on to our reservation, it took 5 minutes!!!! Hang in there, I know it's stressful, exciting, confusing, frustrating, (all the feels), but it will be worth it in the end!!!

From what I remember, the discount dropped around 4:15 or so on the morning of the 27th. So, it was a weird time. Everyone's first thought was to wait until midnight, then nothing happened, so we were all like go to bed and wait until morning. The key was, I knew if the modify button would work, I wouldn't have to wait for the phone lines to open. So, when I got on around 5:15 and saw that as an option, I was so thankful! So, check your existing reservation first, and continue to check it, to see if the option is there to modify, then if it is, you should be good to go as the "add free dining to your existing reservation" will appear and can then be added without having to call Disney and get put on hold!!!Thanks for the encouragement! It's nice to hear that you had no trouble booking something right after it came out. My plan is to stay up all night Sunday and stalk the website!
