Big Apple, Boardwalk, and Beach - Bullies and Wrap-up (The End!) (pg 44)

You sure are. Looks like it's going to be a while before any concerts come to town!

The governor sure has himself in some hot water. :rolleyes1 I guess we shall see how all this plays out. Certainly is a mess.

Spoons aside.... he can bring me a new AP to show off.

Why do we have to put our spoons aside?

Googling now.

I trust it was productive.

I JUST found this, I mean where have I been under a rock?! :cat: :sad2: Well I'm going back now to read.

I don't know Patrick Star, er I mean, addictedtothemouse. But :welcome: anyway! I'm glad you found it! Still plenty more to come (mostly because I am so slow at updating).

The governor sure has himself in some hot water. :rolleyes1 I guess we shall see how all this plays out. Certainly is a mess.

Interesting times we live in, for sure.

You know, I don't even know what a whippersnapper is, other than they're always young.

You sure are. Looks like it's going to be a while before any concerts come to town!

Aha! So hard to tell in that picture, except for how the perspective looks weird.

:rolleyes1

As a percentage of your age, he's catching up to you.

YUKI!!! :welcome: I'm glad you're here! How ya been?! You're all married and living on a different continent now?

Well I'm slooowly writing this TR. So little time.

It seems like you're just begging Marv to take a shot at this comment.

I think I've given you sufficient time to google.

Always!

Looking forward to it.

:rolleyes1

That you do!

See, that didn't take long at all!

It's a really interesting city. The art deco styling on the Rockefeller buildings is pretty easy to spot.

We still didn't drive all the way through to Disney, but yeah, it was a different departure scenario than I had been thinking!

You're the tour guide -- they have to do what you say!

Ah yes, you're getting to near my neck-of-the-woods. Keep me posted.

We will be there July 14th-18th , come on over to my 2016 Roamings and check it out !! As for whippersnapper that is anyone younger than me Oh wait that is just about everyone :rotfl2:

I followed your "batsignal" (ie. go look for Rosie's trip report) and signed onto your ptr.

Yeah, I guess whippersnapper is a pretty large demographic! ;)

Be Our Guest

Today our lunch was scheduled at a new-to-us restaurant, Be Our Guest. I was kind of excited to check this place out. I would’ve booked it anyway, but I was even more eager to do so after a friend of mine had such a good experience there shortly after it opened. He was a first-timer at Disney whose mini trip report I posted here

When I’d started my planning this trip, they were handling the lunchtime reservations by using the fastpass system rather than via Advanced Dining Reservation. About the time I figured out how that was going to work, they switched it to using the ADR system. I was fine either way, but thankful for the DIS so that I was aware of what was going on. This was one reservation that I had set my alarm for midnight in order to get (or 1am, or whatever time the reservations opened up, I forget now). Bleary-eyed in the middle of the night, squinting at my phone, I was able to get an 11:45am ADR. I rolled over and went back to sleep, hoping that I hadn’t just dreamt it. I hadn’t, and we were now about to dine here.

Crossing the bridge to the Beast’s Castle. The forced perspective might be a tad overdone here, but I understand that they want only one castle (Cindy’s) to be in view from anywhere else on property.

The gargoyle lampposts are awesome.

IMG_8699_zpsfoz1ko4a.jpg

Walking in, past the big lions (with ram’s horns) which are totally befitting the entrance to a Beast’s castle!

IMG_8700_zps4z9nwsrm.jpg

And if you liked the gargoyle lampposts, you’ll love the big minotaur-looking columns inside.

IMG_8701_zpsdazlcwji.jpg

The line to order started just inside the doorway, in a hallway of suits of armor.

IMG_8702_zpslzckvv46.jpg

James spotted this Hidden Mickey in a halberd.

IMG_8703_zpshp9vwzwp.jpg

We were soon ordering at the kiosk. Judy took the lead, while her tech-savvy children watched over her shoulder to make sure she did it right. You don’t want a newb messing up your order.

IMG_8704_zpsekwtch3o.jpg

We were at one of the kiosks closest to the dining room. Here’s a shot back at the room with the ordering kiosks. We entered the room through the doorway at the far end.

IMG_8705_zpsbigvziik.jpg

The first dining room you come to after ordering is the Ballroom. It’s the largest of the three dining rooms, and is situated in the middle. We found a table in here, way in the back.

IMG_8706_zpscubozkv5.jpg

I went to grab a couple of photos of the other dining rooms. First the West Wing, with draperies that the Beast has shredded. I can just hear Belle now, “This is why we can’t have nice things!”

IMG_8708_zpszbdxge9b.jpg

On the other side is the Rose Gallery dining room with its music box centerpiece.

IMG_8709_zpsevkzpsrg.jpg

Here are my tablemates...Judy and the kids at our table.

IMG_8710_zpsbuqwkfgk.jpg

Our meal arrived very quickly. We barely had time to get drinks from the soft-drink machine before our food arrived, having found us via MagicBand, I assume.

James’ sandwich. I believe this is the Carved Prime Chuck Roast Beef Sandwich.

IMG_8711_zpsvbgmznkb.jpg

Marlene got the Croque Monsieur sandwich.

IMG_8712_zpswuem8c5n.jpg

This is mine, the braised pork with mashed potatoes and green beans jardinière. Judy and Lauren both also got this dish. I had to get the potato leek soup to try as well, because I love anything potato. I needed to assess whether theirs was, you know, suitable. It was, and then some. Believe me, this whole meal was very good.

IMG_8713_zpszhqeodzv.jpg

Marlene enjoying her sandwich.

IMG_8715_zpsrifwz2hg.jpg

Lauren heartily approves of her dish.

IMG_8716_zpsq0seanv0.jpg

James diving in. Unfortunately, shortly after this picture was taken his stomach started feeling not-so-well and he couldn’t finish. It wasn’t the food or anything, just a stomach thing like what had hit him the previous evening. He’d been having some tummy troubles during the school year and they seemed to follow him on vacation. He was really disappointed that he couldn’t finish this meal.

IMG_8718_zps2cz6blxr.jpg

Of course we had to try a couple of the desserts, especially some of the grey stuff. I think the one on the left is the lemon-raspberry cream puff. I don’t remember if I tried the cream puff, but I know I had some of the cupcake. It was good; not quite amazing or anything, but you’ve gotta try it at least once, right?

IMG_8714_zpspbtkvyjg.jpg

Everybody loved this meal. It didn’t disappoint. The food was good and the rooms are really something to behold. Even the ceiling is pretty amazing.

IMG_8720_zpswvk7uoxe.jpg

I took a picture of Judy and kids in front of the door behind us before we left. Even though it looked pretty cold outside these windows, I had a feeling that it would be pretty hot when we got outside and found ourselves in sunny, humid Florida.

IMG_8721_zps2hzdj7aa.jpg

The girls with the pantsless prince (oh yeah, and Belle) on our way out.

IMG_8724_zpsyrllckdg.jpg

As we headed out, I took a selfie with the gargoyle lamppost. (He looked away just as I snapped the photo, dumb gargoyle.) I sent it to some workmates back at the office and said, “caption this photo”. I didn’t get any takers, can you believe it?

So glad to hear you enjoyed your first time at Be Our Guest. I have dined there once. It was ok. Big breakfast earlier that day and it was really hot out, so I didn't feel like eating much. That put a damper on the experience.

The pantsless prince is one of my favorites of the hidden d$$#ies.

:thumbsup2

Be Our Guest is good at dinner, but I think I prefer lunch best! :thumbsup2 Glad you finally got to give it a try. ::yes::

The gargoyle lampposts are awesome.

IMG_8699_zpsfoz1ko4a.jpg
You got some really great pics from the outside, but this one is exceptional. :woohoo:

The line to order started just inside the doorway, in a hallway of suits of armor.
Did you hear them talking? Usually it is too noisy in the hallway unless you are really paying attention. :rolleyes2

James spotted this Hidden Mickey in a halberd.

Great job James!!! :yay:

Our meal arrived very quickly. We barely had time to get drinks from the soft-drink machine before our food arrived, having found us via MagicBand, I assume.
Yes, it is very cool how they do that, and quickly! :goodvibes

James’ sandwich. I believe this is the Carved Prime Chuck Roast Beef Sandwich.

Oh I would recognize that one anywhere. Seems to be a go to when we visit!

Marlene enjoying her sandwich.

She looks skeptical........ :rotfl:

Of course we had to try a couple of the desserts, especially some of the grey stuff.
Of course! :P

The girls with the pantsless prince (oh yeah, and Belle) on our way out.
What, no pinching??? :confused3

Isn't that how Disney always does it? Just as we start to figure it out, it's time for a 180 turn.

Crossing the bridge to the Beast’s Castle. The forced perspective might be a tad overdone here, but I understand that they want only one castle (Cindy’s) to be in view from anywhere else on property.
I've always thought that. I get why they did it the way they did and as good as the theming is, I've always thought the castle's forced perspective is laughable.

We were soon ordering at the kiosk. Judy took the lead, while her tech-savvy children watched over her shoulder to make sure she did it right. You don’t want a newb messing up your order.
You definitely don't want to take chances when it comes to getting food ordered!

That's great! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

And I guess I'm also glad that you didn't just dream that you made the ADR.

Yeah, I'm sure they appreciated you reminding them that you were on vacation while they were at work.

James spotted this Hidden Mickey in a halberd.

Good find!

I can just hear Belle now, “This is why we can’t have nice things!”

But you tried to make me eat a salad for dinner!

James diving in. Unfortunately, shortly after this picture was taken his stomach started feeling not-so-well and he couldn’t finish.

Uh oh. That stinks.

As we headed out, I took a selfie with the gargoyle lamppost. (He looked away just as I snapped the photo, dumb gargoyle.)

What a jerk. Um, the gargoyle, I mean.

I sent it to some workmates back at the office and said, “caption this photo”. I didn’t get any takers, can you believe it?

So happy together...

I really enjoyed our BOG lunch when we were there last may, in fact i'm looking forward to it again in just a few weeks!

(I'm going to need you to update a little faster because you make it really hard for me to procrastinate when there is nothing to read. )

p.s. I still can't get over how grown James looks.

After our not so pleasant dinner experience with a condescending waiter we kind of gave up on BOG. But I think I might be interested in trying it for lunch. Your pictures look really good and it sounds like you had a great experience!

The braised pork used to have mashed potatoes? Now it comes with mashed Cauliflower. :crazy2:

The meal looks good, we've been there once for lunch. Perhaps we will consider going back again. You got some very nice pictures of the various dining rooms. Too bad James wasn't feeling well by the end of the meal.

I like Lunch at BoG. As Marv said, seemed better than dinner. You got some great shots around the castle.

Oh I would recognize that one anywhere. Seems to be a go to when we visit!

Pretty much the only thing I can eat there and since modifications are a no no at lunch, the go - to. :rolleyes1

You can't always time having the right appetite at the right time at the right place. Actually, one thing that I probably could have put in this chapter was that I wanted to try a waffle sandwich from Sleepy Hollow but I was a bad planner and forgot to put it on my spreadsheet for that morning's activities. But in hindsight, I don't know how I could've eaten that and still had room for this lunch. So many things to try!

The pantsless prince is one of my favorites of the hidden d$$#ies.

Wait, what? What's a hidden d$$*ie? I feel like I'm missing something here!

Be Our Guest is good at dinner, but I think I prefer lunch best! :thumbsup2 Glad you finally got to give it a try. ::yes::

All of the advice I got (probably from you) said to go for lunch rather than dinner, that the dinnertime food doesn't quite justify the price. I thought that lunch was pretty good.

You got some really great pics from the outside, but this one is exceptional. :woohoo:

Oh wow, thanks!

Did you hear them talking? Usually it is too noisy in the hallway unless you are really paying attention. :rolleyes2

No, and I forgot that they did that so wasn't really listening for it. :listen: More poor planning on my part!

Great job James!!! :yay:

He'll soon be ready to park tour with @Poolrat

Yes, it is very cool how they do that, and quickly! :goodvibes

Big Brother brought our lunch to us!

Oh I would recognize that one anywhere. Seems to be a go to when we visit!

A pretty good "go to".

She looks skeptical........ :rotfl:

No, that was supposed to be a "oh, that's good" face.

Of course! :P

Yes, in order to be able to properly report back here.

What, no pinching??? :confused3

No, we behave ourselves. Most of the time.

Isn't that how Disney always does it? Just as we start to figure it out, it's time for a 180 turn.

Very much so! Like I said in the chapter though, I was just glad that I kept up with what was happening via the DIS. :thumbsup2

I've always thought that. I get why they did it the way they did and as good as the theming is, I've always thought the castle's forced perspective is laughable.

I think it's too much. Main Street is a good example, you can't really tell from standing at street level but you can understand it/believe it when someone tells you. But there's no mistaking it for the Beast's Castle!

You definitely don't want to take chances when it comes to getting food ordered!

No, it's just too danged important!

That's great! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

And I guess I'm also glad that you didn't just dream that you made the ADR.

Thanks. Yeah, it showed up in MDE so I was pretty sure it was real. Kinda weird making reservations in the middle of the night on your phone though, I've gotta say.

Yeah, I'm sure they appreciated you reminding them that you were on vacation while they were at work.

Oh no, they love it!

Wait, what? What's a hidden d$$*ie? I feel like I'm missing something here!

OK, technically, I guess these are actually NON-hidden d$$*ies, like the one in the BOG Stained Glass. You do know about the one in Morocco, right? If not, I will PM you.

What if you had? What would you have done then?

Panic! No, I just wrote in a reply to Dee that I had wanted to try a waffle sandwich at Sleepy Hollow but forgot about it. Maybe if I didn't have a BoG reservation I would have remembered it?

Good find!

:magnify:

But you tried to make me eat a salad for dinner!

That would do it. Unless there are bacon bits involved.

Uh oh. That stinks.

Yeah, not fun.

What a jerk. Um, the gargoyle, I mean.

I shouldn't complain -- he posed really well for the picture on the way in.

So happy together...

That's the idea! I figured they'd say something like: "He looks like your doppelganger. .....I was talking to the gargoyle."

I really enjoyed our BOG lunch when we were there last may, in fact i'm looking forward to it again in just a few weeks!

Oooo, congrats on your upcoming trip! Staying at AKL again?

(I'm going to need you to update a little faster because you make it really hard for me to procrastinate when there is nothing to read. )

Sorry about that; I wish I could! I know what you mean though, it's fun to read about other trips as you're anticipating yours.

p.s. I still can't get over how grown James looks.

Well, Marlene has finished her first year of college, Lauren just graduated and is getting married in a couple of months...so add James to the list of things I still can't get over!! :faint:

After our not so pleasant dinner experience with a condescending waiter we kind of gave up on BOG. But I think I might be interested in trying it for lunch. Your pictures look really good and it sounds like you had a great experience!

Ouch, yes that might be one benefit of ordering from a kiosk and just having your meal wheeled to you: no waiter issues. I thought it was a good meal and we definitely wanted to get a look inside.

The braised pork used to have mashed potatoes? Now it comes with mashed Cauliflower. :crazy2:

Time is not so on-my-side at this point Alison, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it was mashed potatoes. I agree, mashed cauliflower is worthy of a :crazy2: smilie.

The meal looks good, we've been there once for lunch. Perhaps we will consider going back again. You got some very nice pictures of the various dining rooms. Too bad James wasn't feeling well by the end of the meal.

I hope you get a chance to go back. Yes, thanks; sometimes the tummy just doesn't want to cooperate.

I like Lunch at BoG. As Marv said, seemed better than dinner. You got some great shots around the castle.

It was definitely worth trying out. Yeah, you'd think they'd make the dinnertime meal so spectacular that it'd be the preferred time to eat there.

Pretty much the only thing I can eat there and since modifications are a no no at lunch, the go - to. :rolleyes1

Oh really, that's basically it for your choices? Well, could be worse I suppose, but sorry to hear that.

OK, technically, I guess these are actually NON-hidden d$$*ies, like the one in the BOG Stained Glass. You do know about the one in Morocco, right? If not, I will PM you.

Okay, gotcha. Yes, I got a good picture of the one in Morocco on this trip -- probably won't post it though. I think there are enough examples available!

Oooo, congrats on your upcoming trip! Staying at AKL again?

Nope - All Star Music this time.

Well, Marlene has finished her first year of college, Lauren just graduated and is getting married in a couple of months...so add James to the list of things I still can't get over!! :faint:

Oy vey! :guilty: Too much!! I'm an emotional wreck over here - Creighton is graduating Kindergarten on Friday. You just pushed me right over the edge with that info!
