***Officially Official September 2017 Thread***

We normally drive to Disney from Oklahoma. We typically split the drive into 2 days and stay in Dothan, AL. The entire drive is about 17 hours. This year we are flying and excited to do so!

(please change my resort to Poly. Same dates, but we changed resorts).

We drive from Ohio twice a year (16 hours) and go straight through now. Used to stop one night, but just ran into too many sketchy areas and hotels. So now we start at 3am, and get to disney around 9:30pm( if no traffic issues). Sometimes we stay in celebration the night before to save our DVC points since our first day is over by the time we get there. Much nicer coming down I-4 at night then mid day.

How exhausted do you guys end up being at the end of that? Do you usually need a day to recover?

I'm guessing this will be a case by case issue/non-issue. We have 4 kids, who up until this point were all under 10. We love road trips and as crazy as it may sound, I find the drive home to be relaxing. My family is used to 22 hour trips, so the Disney 17 hours is a slight "break" for us. My wife normally needs a day to recover, but she doesn't get high on Disney like the rest of us. We normally build in 2 rest days while there, maybe spending 3-4 hours in the park on those days, just meandering and doing a few rides/shows.

We are also driving about 17 hours with 5 kids. It is doable, but has its moments of insanity since my kids don't sleep well in the car. We break ours up into two nights on the way down (usually with the second night a few hours from Disney or right outside Disney) and one night on the way back if we left at a time so it works out that way. The trip down is exciting for the most part, but the drive back can seem a little sad and long.

I am interested to see what it is like flying so far for us all, to get to such an active holiday. It is almost 14 hours flying time to Houston, then a 3 hour break for getting through customs and onto the next flight to Orlando, apparently another 2 1/2 hours flight time. So between having to check in 3 hours before flight time at our end, and the flight times, that is around 22 hours from airport to final airport, plus travel at either end.

Because we cross the date line both ways, we leave here at 5pm Friday, and arrive Orlando at 7pm Friday - if only it really was 2 hours!(Of course coming back it is leave Thursday, arrive home Saturday - that isn't so much fun).

I have done a much longer flight, years ago when I flew to the UK. We stopped in Cairns, Singapore, Abu Dhabi before finally making it to London. That was somewhere between 30 and 40 hours all done, I was so wiped when I got there!

I agree with the ride home thing . :sad2:

Agree, depends on the person. We've drove every year, sometimes more since my oldest was 5 ( she's 20). It's like second nature. We find it relaxing also, especially on the way home- it's like easing back into reality. I don't want to wake up at Disney, be home and back to reality quickly. We switch off driving, and after 8-10 days of parks, sitting in the car is nice. We all usually have lots to talk about, so good family time. Modern technology also helps with in car wifi:rotfl:

9/3 through 9/10 At Pop as well! Husband and wife only! Kids now have their own families and we get to be kids again! We're 46 and 50 so we may not be as fast as we used to, but we usually out last the kids there!

Neighbors!!! LOL I'm 47 & bringing my sons 10, 12, and 22 :)

My husband and I are doing a split-stay! Sept 9-11 at ASMo and 11-15 at CSR! I'm so excited!!!!!! Just booked the Fireworks plaza view dessert party for the 13th and I'm so giddy about it! I've never done it before!

We went to Bora Bora on our honeymoon from NY. Literally lost a day of my life flying back. Left bora bora on a Monday night and landed in NY Wednesday morning. Completely lost Tuesday.
