Official 2017 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Thread

If it's not one thing it's another:

And with the fire to our north I am now concerned about the smoke spreading.

Supposed to be in the 80s at the start of the race. Sun will not be out but looks like a warm humid one for the whole race. Unfortunately, the medical tents will be busy tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone running the half tomorrow!!!! Remember to stay hydrated as much as you can and listen to your body. Pixie dust to you all!!pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Just witness a person I've long suspected was a Corral jumper actually do it.

So disgusting.

She's dressed as Jasmine.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me. After all the talk on these boards about race etiquette, course crowding, cheaters, etc., it's sad to see someone who posts here jump up four corrals so they can take more pictures.

I agree! As someone who is a back middle pack runner, I know where I belong and I stay there! I would never consider jumping corrals (and putting mine and everyone's safety in jeopardy) just for a few pictures.

That was.... extremely rough and everyone who completed the race should be extremely proud of themselves!

I managed a 2:46 finish - it was just impossible to pace and breathe through Disneyland. I took it after that as a training run and felt much better.

I am going to come back and crush this in November at Avengers with hopefully better weather. For now, I'm a month out from my first marathon and will continue to focus on that.

Great job to all finishers. We did it. Now to rest and eat my third snack box of the weekend. ;)

Congrats to everyone who participated this weekend. I can't believe how warm I'm hearing the weather was this morning - 80 degrees before 5 am?!? :crazy2: :faint: You all should be very proud of what you accomplished, whether things went according to plan or not. :thumbsup2

I hope Run Disney and the city of Anaheim are satisfied with how things went and can start to move forward with info for the 2018 races.

Great job out there today, everyone! I found myself wishing that the high wind warning that was announced had materialized! Instead, it just felt like someone had thrown a wet, damp blanket over the course! One of my highlights from the race was running through a set of sprinklers that were watering the grass shortly before Angels Stadium.

I really wanted to put up a sub-2:00 Disney half. The park sections were good and energizing, even if the tight quarters kept what little breeze there was off of us. After that, though, the conditions made the trek through the streets of Anaheim an energy sapping slog. By the time we hit the 15k mat at Angels Stadium, my pace had flagged to an average of 9:26/mile and I thought 2:00 was done. The stadium always gives me a boost, though, and I took that and set my mind on the finish.

I think it was @FFigawi who recently posted the "Don't be an idiot the first half of your race and don't be a wimp in the second half". I kept that on auto play in my head and focused on the quarter mile split in front of me. I still didn't think I'd quite gotten enough time back until I turned the last corner and saw 1:58-something on the finish clock. My legs were doing their own thing by that point, so it wasn't exactly a sprint to the line, but it got me there at 1:59:05 for mission accomplished!

Given the conditions this weekend I will very happily head home with my shiny new 10k PR and sub-2:00 half marathon. I hope everyone will look back on this weekend with enjoyment once the heat and humidity effects have faded! Dopey, I'm coming for you next, buddy...

Well. That. Was. Brutal. Not the race I intended but I finished.

And by the way, if anyone saw this lunatic lady dressed in pink jumping, screaming, pulling off her hat and slapping at her face right in front of the bleachers before the finish line...that was me. I wasn't jumping for joy.....I was jumping because one of the largest and scariest insects I have ever seen flew under the brim of my hat!!! I was so fatigued and stunned at that point that I wasn't even sure if I was stung. A visit to the medical area confirmed that I was stung right next to my eye. Sigh.

This weekend was so much better organized than Tink... whatever runDisney did to fix the issues... thank you! Also, Disney, is you could use that magic and provide us with the weather we had at Tink this year for next time, that'd be amaze balls! Time to ice, stretch, shower, rest, eat, beer and then park.

Congratulations to everyone who ran this weekend!
Mom and I had a wonderful time at the 10k! Bragging rights: mom finished 10th in her age group despite our slower than planned pace!
On our way to the airport this morning, we saw many hot and tired runners returning to the hotel. Fantastic work powering through that heat and humidity. I remember how hot I was at the DL half finish last year, and I know this had to be brutal. You are all brave!!!
Also, it was Mom's first DL trip, and she absolutely loved it! Mission accomplished. ;)
Have a great time cooling off, celebrating, and have safe travels home!!

Seven years of doing this race and this will definetely go down as one of the most difficult. I was worried I might have to med out once or twice. I was in serious bad shape a few times. Retaining Legacy and my own stubbornness was what kept me going.

I'll second the changes. I was happy to see a lot of the old course entertainment return.

The characters, they outdid themselves today. And oh my god I literally just missed them. But for the first time that I can recall. Minnie and Mickie were a genuine photo stop. Not a selfie. A photo stop. I ended up with Goofy and Pluto instead which not as hard but still cool.

Also I have spent several races trying to get a photo with this guy. And something always happens, goes on break, camera breaks etc. I finally got one today:

Also I missed this guy last year and was happy to see him this year:

Only weird one was with the Incredibles. They had Frozone on the right and Mr and Mrs on the left. I went for Mr and Mrs Incredible. And we were told to keep in front of the cones right in the running path....odd choice.

Well, we now know what it feels like to run on the surface of the sun. That sucked balls. I suspect there will be a long DNF list.

Today's half for me was 28 minutes slower than one I did 7 weeks ago.

Me and air conditioning are going to spend some quality time together today before I venture out again.

Well done to everyone else who ran today.
