***Riding out the hurricane at a Disney resort? Post your experiences here!***

This is a shame, particularly because so many CMs are so great with special needs kids. All I can think is that perhaps these were CP CM's who didn't know how to react? Especially a shame because you were there, and they
We are at BCV and for the most part everyone has been great and things are definitely smooth. However, we are traveling with our special needs grandson and haven't felt that "magic" others are feeling with the activities. For example, we took him downstairs to play and there were 3 cast members in the room and only 2 other kids. Our guy went to play hungry hippos with the 1 cm and another child, while the other cm was playing jenga with another child. As soon as the other child stopped playing hungry hippo, the cm left to sit in a chair. Ok, no big deal. I'll play with my guy. Then the 2 cm's begin playing jenga together with the other 2 kids until those kids leave. So far, no big deal. However, those 2 kids leave with their dad and this is what happens - 1 leaves the room, 1 remains in his chair, and the other goes off in a corner on her phone. I found this pretty rude so we ended up taking him to the main lobby. Is it really so difficult to treat a special needs child the same as other children? Sure he's different in some neurological ways, but he's still a kid who loves the attention of a Disney cm, especially playing games.

Anyway, not going to let it define the trip. The rest of the trip and this hurricane experience has been positive. Just need to work on that special needs training, Disney. I plan to write a letter and offer some suggestions.

i have to say my child has autism and my niece has cerebral palsy who travel with us down there all the time. NEVER have i ever had a problem. cast members go out of the way to connect and make it magical. even booking helps with reservations..i would say that am very sad you had that experience but it is not the normal for them. There's always One Bad Apple in a bunch doesn't make the bunch bad just makes that one apple bad.

With all the pets, I wonder with WDW will do for room cleaning. I am really glad they are doing this. I think even in Matthew they required all pets to tot he kennel.

My DS at age 30 is now okay allergy wise. But he was born with immune system deficiencies that meant that exposure to pet dander (or dust. Or leaf mold. Or chalk...) meant that he would break out in hives and have a major asthma attack on exposure. At least in those days we would save to stay at a deluxe result so that we could request special allergy cleaning that would clean the tops of bureaus and do a thorough dust and vacuum. If he had stayed in a room where there had been a dog or cat, he would have had a reaction.

Which is why we had lizards, turtles and ball pythons. Becoming a non pet resort again could take a while.

My son has severe allergies, and used to have major problems when we would travel. Once at Disney we requested a VIP cleaning, and it was the first time he didn't need his nebulizer on a trip! So I'd recommend that if you have severe allergies. They steam clean the carpet, change the a/c filters and change the bedding. It was amazing for us, to have him not wheeze more than just needing his inhaler.

Boma open until 10. Mara open until 1:30. Gift shop open until 11. Aladdin starting at 8:30.

Goofy leading a dog parade through the lobby!

Currently sitting on a rocking chair on the first floor drinking some coco and watching the storm through the big windows.

Everyone in good spirits. I've been thanking all cast members I've seen for being so awesome. I told the entertainment cast members that they would make Walt proud... and I think they really appreciate it.

Kids singing Let It Go right now. All in all a good night at Disney.

Anyone who's staying in their room right now, or from around here, do you have a preferred news station to watch for updates? I want to keep one on when I'm not watching Disney movies, but I don't know enough to know if any of them are better than others.

I grew up in the area. My preference is WESH 2 (NBC).

The update on channel 3 now says 'beginning at 10pm, until the curfew is lifted, please remain in your room'. Winds picking up at Pop.

Well that's a hell of a way to tell the internet you know nothing about dogs :-)

Separation or separating anxiety in dogs does not imply any other problems other than an issue being away from it's people, it is quite common that these dogs are totally loving with both other people and dogs.

Just like dogs that don't like other dogs can totally love other people and dogs who hate strangers can love other dogs.

Have had dogs, but they didn't have separation anxiety - why do some dogs get that way? Good to know an obnoxious dog in a room doesn't translate (all the time) to a nonsocial one in public. I just don't get dogs that are neurotic.

Any notifications about tornado warnings in the area? CNN just had one pop up a while ago, and the broadcaster said it was heading towards Disney World - but it was fading fast. Hopefully that's the only one you all get!
