We didn't get to do Fremont Street last time. We also didn't have time for Circus Circus which is the circus themed casino. Don't forget Wet and Wild, Sigfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, Aquariums at Mandalay Bay and Silverton Casino, M and M world, hershey's World etc. Not to mention the shopping -fashion show mall, the miracle mile shops, North and South Premium Outlets. Then you have the food-so many restaurants to suit EVERY palate. from buffets to fine dining and everything in between. I finally plan to eat at In and Out Burger..lol. You and your wife should go back. I hear the weather in May is golden-not too hot but comfortable.Ours is 4. LOL. And I'm thinking about taking her to Vegas! But seriously, I think she'd really love some of the Cirque shows. We've been taking her to movies in the theaters for over a year now, and she's very good about sitting still and staying quiet, and then totally gushing about what she'd just seen after the show.
When we were last in Vegas about five years ago, there were a lot of male and female hustlers on the Strip pushing flyers for scantily clad shows and services but it seemed targeted not at families. You can't entirely avoid that kind of stuff as they advertise all over in newspaper and magazine racks; billboards aren't too bad -- PG-13 at the worst. I didn't notice too much of that around the Fremont Street Experience in downtown, even though Downtown LV has a reputation for being even seedier than the Strip. Great lights show and entertainment. Of course there are street performers all over the Strip and Fremont Street.
Practically speaking, half the year Vegas is too hot for us to walk around or stay outside for long, and we tended to drive from resort to resort for whatever we had planned. Parking is (mostly?) free so it's an easy choice. You don't see much of the seedy side of Vegas if you're mostly in an air conditioned car, garage, or resorts.
ETA: I agree that there's lots to do even if we're not the young-jet-off-to-Vegas-to-party-for-the-weekend types anymore. We were big into catching all the Cirque du Soleil shows in Vegas. We loved to eat at all the different restaurants, too, and the celebrity chef driven restaurant scene has really exploded in Vegas over the last ten years. But there's everything from old time joints, buffets of all sizes, fancy restaurants, tourist magnets like the World of Coca Cola and Serendipity 3. I think there are a fair amount of rides too, like the roller coaster in New York, New York and thrill rides at the Stratosphere. There's a pretty cool aquarium at Mandalay Bay. @Albort reminded me of the great medieval Tournament of Kings dinner show at the Excalibur. And if you like Disney theming, you'll love some of the theming at resorts like the Paris, the Venetian, Caesar's Palace, and even New York New York, the Bellagio, and the Luxor.
So you can have 6/24??? Exciting I have been thinking about trying for 2 years
2 cards at 4/24 trick???
Suppose you are at 4/24 and decide to apply for 2 personal chase cards on the same day. One would think that one of the apps would get approved while other would be denied because of 5/24. However, recent data points (DP) suggest that it is possible to get approved for both. I think the ideal thing to do is –
NOTE: There have been successful DPs of grabbing 3 5/24 cards at 4/24. However, it is possible that you might run into a blockade due to 2/30 or 1/30 rule.
- apply for the card that you want more first
- get it approved, recon if you must (remember recon isn’t open 24/7)
- then apply for second card on the same day
- and i would further say recon to get that one approved as well
Happy I had a CSR today with 1.5x pts in travel redemption...
I leave for Disneyland tomorrow to meet my BFF for a girls trip! Flying there on a <2 hr flight, went to check in today and it didn't work. And then I noticed the date. Not Thurs Sept 21- I booked my flight for Fri Sept 22. Cue PANIC & DEVASTATION- momentarily at least. Then my brain kicked in, I called Alaska and they said for $260 I could change it. I asked him what flight was running if I outright booked a new one about $210 he says. I hang up & book a new flight through UR for about 14K UR points and then call Chase (who I originally booked the flight through) to see if I could get anything back. Yeah, no, they're not miracle workers but I know that. So, I still get to go to DL tomorrow but at least with my CSR redemption I'm paying $140 instead of $210... Things I learned (besides double check your dates):
-You can book flights after the 24 hour to take-off mark through Chase UR
-It takes Chase UR about 15mins to get an e-ticket issued for Alaska Airlines (you can't check-in until you have an e-ticket and Alaska can't help you get your ticket issued if you booked through a TA, like UR)
-If you need to re-book your flight check the cash booking price and don't just eat the fee they quote you over the phone, that guy would have completely had me pay $50 more than I needed to
-I still got TSA pre-check
While I was in the midst of all this I got an email from Disney Visa Rewards telling me I had $52 Disney dollars waiting to be redeemed. OMG someone used my referral (not on the DIS- no rule violation here!) and it was a really nice consolation after spending all the money on a new flight. Now I have a VERY important q: can I get a replacement Disney Redemption Card in Disneyland even though I've already been issued one? I see I can get one at a few locations in Disneyland. I left the card at home (I'm currently traveling) because I didn't think there was anything on it...
So glad you still get to go and jealous I can't! We loved Halloween at WDW and I've been seeing pics of CarsLand decorated for Halloween and wish we could go.Happy I had a CSR today with 1.5x pts in travel redemption...

1. Won't count as a new card for Chase There is no credit pull. You can downgrade it again after a year.Question for you. Dh and I both have the Hilton AMEX card, no annual fee I believe. I see we both have offers to get 100000 points if we upgrade to the Hilton Surpass card, with a $75 annual fee with a $3000 spend. Questions, will these show up as a new card with Chase, part of the 5/24 (I am so far over that, I'm not sure it matters), and would I be able to downgrade back to the regular Hilton after a year or so?
Not sure we can swing two spends, will have to think about doing both of them...
Actually another question...I see Amex now has a no fee Delta card, what do you think are the odds of downgrading a platinum to that card? I know they are cracking down on the Delta cards.
Thanks!
We took DS10 there Memorial Day weekend and it was absolutely family friendly. We saw some pet show, took him to the Cirque's Michael Jackson One show. We stayed at Mandalay Bay. While we loved the resort, especially the water park, we would stay more central. It was actually where DS requested to go for the long weekend. He would go back in a heartbeat.OT a bit: How 'family friendly' is walking the strip? My dh had to go to Vegas like 10-12 years ago for a work conference and said he'd never want to take our family to vegas that there were half dressed women shoving papers at you (that were not fam friendly) and the billboards were bad...Is it still like that or has it changed? We seem to know a lot of families who do go so just wondering. It's so close to us. I want to go if there is lots to do
I agree. You may not find much first/business awards (@calypso726 might speak to that) and some awards are not the lowest end SAAver awards but I have found availablity. The farther ahead you book, the better@kayteekt I can only speak to the Airline part of your post as I fly CLT to MCO as well. I've read the same things you have as far as AA redemption but in my actual use I've only had one trip of the 4 ive planned so far not have the milesaver avaliblity and that's a Christmas trip. No problem getting up to 3 seats each trip at the times of day I wanted for the other trips throughout the year. Hope this helps.
ETA: except for the Dec trip the others have ran 15k pp round trip
So glad you still get to go and jealous I can't! We loved Halloween at WDW and I've been seeing pics of CarsLand decorated for Halloween and wish we could go.
all my friends who still work for Disneyland tell me all about Carsland Halloween. they demand that i go check it out. lol
I applied for the Chase Southwest Card and got the "30 day" message.
I already have Premiere, Freedom, and the other SW card and am under 5/24.
The next day the new card was displayed in my Chase acct with a high limit and limits on Premiere and Freedom were reduced.
Does this mean my card is on the way?

Yes, they confirmed I spent $4,000. Said it may take 1-2 billing cycles for the points to show up. Still hoping they show up in the next few weeks.hmm, thats weird. you sure u made the minimums? all the bonuses i got, after i reach MSR, the bonus points show pending in my UR account.
Amex SPG... hehe, they just changed their policy saying you probably wont see your bonus until after awhile... just changed today
