Need help...would you do a 5 night stay over Memorial Day weekend or a 7 night stay mid august?

Pricing is pretty much the same....5 nights with a 5 day hopper at BC over memorial weekend & a 7 night 6 day hopper at BC mid august. We are a family of four...kids will be 9 & 15. In may, they would miss some school which I'm not thrilled about. My hesitation for an August trip is the potential for a ton of rain! We've done two May trips before and two trips in November. We were just there over memorial weekend for opening of pandora and enjoyed that time of year, but more bang for the buck in august and no missed school. Convince me that august is the way to go!

I think you already hit the nail on the head - no missed school, extra night (more chances to hit everything you want with the park hoppers which means less stress), and even with the chance of rain-that tends to thin the crowds out a bit as well. An extra night at WDW is worth a lot in terms of vacation value if pricing is the same, right?

I’m weird and I actually like the rain. Clears the pools and parks.

I vote August, hands down. No missed school, longer trip, more flexibility. We haven’t done August but we’ve done July a couple of times now and really prefer it to some of the other times of year (except parts of Sept and Feb).

Have fun!

Yes! :)

August for sure. We went the last week of august and it was hot for sure. During that time rain is your best friend. Anything that keeps the sun from beating down was welcome. We only had two sunny days while we were there and I was glad to see the showers the other days. But travel insurance since its hurricane season though. Disney will reschedule you but don’t want to lose out on the airfare.

I'd go in May. I can't imagine how hot and humid August would be.

It rained a lot for us during our two May trips no less than our August trips. You just never know. And usually thunderstorms are in and out quickly. So I’d definitely pick the extra days!

True. Thank you for your reply! :)

We've only ever gone in late May. We have rarely had any rain on our trips, in fact on 4 of our 5 trips, we had no rain at all. Just glorious sunshine and hot temps. My vote is for May!!

I don't mind a sprinkle or brief shower. But not torrential downpours that last for hours, which I've heard happens a lot, from friends/colleagues who go to WDW in August. Because after all it is hurricane season.

Forgot to mention the extra 2 nights and day can also come in handy for booking ADRs (as well as FP+s), so there is that...

I've done both - Memorial Day weekend and August (for the past 7 years). I actually don't mind the rain in August. It's the heat that really, REALLY affects our touring. It was SO hot this past August that I could barely get through the parks even in the evenings. Memorial Day, on the other hand, was quite manageable. I would do Memorial Day again. After this past August, we are done with August trips.

We love August and have done may August trips. The weather is hot hot hot but when there is rain it clears the air and cools things down. May can be hot too.... I'd do the longer summer trip and plan for long breaks for swimming and AC.

August for sure. But we are Floridians and don't mind the heat, and as other have noted the rains help cut down crowds.

I would prefer May. But it would depend on the 15 year old's work load in high school and how close to finals it was.

That's my worry: torrential rain!
