When are they going to fix the Monorail/EPCOT security glitch?

Hi! We are arriving the Poly on Wednesday! Haven't been to WDW since Nov 2016 and stayed at WL that trip. Sooo, if I go through screening at Poly monorail do I go through screening at MK entrance again? Have they eliminated all screening at MK now as it sounds like everyone is screened beforehand? How long was the wait/line at Poly monorail?

They rearranged the screening at MK and pulled it back away from the turnstiles
Only 1 screening for you for the MK, before you board the monorail at the Poly station. Waits are minimal

Bottom line is anybody getting on a monorail from either park has already been through security. So they need to find a way to let you off at Epcot without reaffirming.

THANK YOU!!!

It needs to be fixed! The security bag check at Epcot is horrible. I think I've encountered one friendly security CM at Epcot; for the most part they act like they're screening felons. A woman in front of me had her wallet opened by the CM. I think some CMs are on a bit of a power trip.

I certainly now feel mighty lucky. I had 4 different visits this year, and never found any of the checkers to be an issue. Going through airports can be dicey, but never like that at Disney. Always smiling, usually some fun conversation. I always have to go through the metal detector since I don't have bags, but they are also very nice.

We didn't encounter any rude bag checkers at EPCOT. They were all fairly nice, and there was one female officer who stood off to the side singing and she actually had a lovely singing voice, she would make the songs about going through back check deja-vu, times two, etc…I told her she had a lovely singing voice. I know they get it. They are just doing their jobs and I would never begrudge them that.

The only minor issue I had with a bag checker was at the Poly getting on the monorail. It was our last day and I had gotten my airline boarding pass printed that morning at airline check-in. I had it in my bag along with my sweater, phone, and a couple other things. The bag checker kind of roughly pulled my sweater out of the bag and my boarding pass flew out with it and fell on the ground. I was kind of annoyed but didn't let it ruin my day.

We think she probably used to work for Southwest!lol:)

We love her-she makes the Bag Check not so "boring".

You may want to think about dropping Guest Communications a nice email for her.:)

I was hoping that SOMEHOW they might address this with the major construction heading Epcot's way. Didn't seem to us like there was an easy way to route the arriving traffic to avoid the double security check. But it is irritating.

Just wondering why they can't use the same ramp for departures and arrivals at Epcot. Just put a partition down the middle of the ramp. It's in the secured area yet not past the ticket booth, right?

Just arrived back home early Thursday AM. I don't think they will change anything before your next trip, however I would encourage you to voice your opinion to Disney. I thought the entire bag check/additional screening was the biggest drag on this trip. Don't get me wrong we all had a lot of fun and great times. Most of the checkers were nice, my daughter did encounter some overly aggressive ones at the AK bag check. I suppose he didn't like something about the way she took her bag back from him? And wanted to detain her at the gate even after the additional screening process was complete. Perhaps he was having a bad day, but I would believe that is beyond their authority.

I think some of these people are hired right out of TSA. They tend to act like they are FBI, CIA or Secret Service. Most of them are very nice, but there are a few who seem like they were turned down from the police academy with a chip on their shoulder. I do not let them get to me. My wife is always picked for extra screening every single time, without fail, and those people are always nice to her. The bag checkers are the only ones we ever have issues with. Now Disneyland is a different story. They all think they are Secret Service. LOL

Try not to let them get to you. I mean honestly, they have an important job, regardless if it is helpful or a facade. Truth be told, if somebody wants to do harm, those guys checking bags are mostly useless. A person who scouts out a place they want to "attack" is not going to put a weapon in their bag and think they are going to carry out their plan.

Because you enter and exit the monorail on opposite sides. There's no way to get the people on the exit side across the beam to the side with the entrance ramp.

All they need to do is move the tables on that side farther out toward the buses and put up some sort of fencing to block unauthorized access. It really shouldn't be that difficult to do, as the ramp is not all that far from bag check. Or they could segregate the people exiting the monorail with some sort of fencing that ultimately drops them past the bag check tables. But I think moving the tables out would be the simpler fix.

The only * with this fix is it won't catch the folks who arrive via car. They'll have to set up a 2nd security station for them. Not that they can't but it will take an additional rearrangement. I haven't any clue if there is currently a spot where they could effectively rearrange and secure a spot to capture just car/tram guests and skip bus guests.

I have used the Epcot monorail so few times (maybe 3) over the past 15 years that I wasn't sure if that was the case where you board/exit on opposite sides. But now that I think about it, that's how it is at most stations. I get what your saying about the tables. It seems like it would be fairly simple to segregate monorail riders from non-secured guests.

Well, I was thinking they need to move the tables farther toward the buses, so that the end of the monorail ramp was within the bubble. Car/tram traffic should still be able to use it also. Right now they have it tucked in so tight under the monorail station - that's the problem. Do they still have the smaller bag check on the other side of the monorail for people arriving by car who walk up? I haven't come in through that side for about a year and a half, so I'm not sure if it's still there or not.

That could be changed. The actual resort stops for the resort monorail has passengers entering and exiting on the same side.

Yes, they do. At Epcot, they have a lot more volume of guests than at any one resort stop though, so they would probably need to move the "corrals" for the boarding guests back a bit do allow enough room to get everyone off the monorail safely. I don't think there would be room to put down a wheelchair ramp and have someone exit down it without running into guests waiting to board. It's not an issue now because it's a straight line from the boarding corral to the door.
