Ok, I wanted to follow-up to let you how this turned out...I applied on-line this morning and got the "we need to think about it and we'll get back to you within 30 days" message. I waited about an hour and a half and then called the automated status line and got the "7-10 days message". So about an hour after that I called recon and was told that I was denied due to too many cards opened in the last 24 months.

I currently have the Marriott, Freedom and CSP which were all opened in 2017. I have been saving my last two spots for the 2 SW cards to get the companion pass. I have 3 AmEx cards all of which were opened in 2015 & 2016. When I asked the rep about the denial reason she read off the 2 AmEx's that I opened in 2016 as part of the "too many in the last 24 months". I asked about the inclusion of the AmEx's in the 24 month timeframe and she stated that its all cards in the 24 month period.

Has anyone else heard this? I thought that 5/24 just applied to Chase cards? Do you all have any thoughts about this or should I just change my plan and move onto other cards?

Thanks!
The Chase 5/24 rule applies to ALL new credit card accounts (from all issuers) appearing on your personal credit report at the time of application.

Unfortunately in your initial comment you said 3/24 with Chase and I think we all probably thought that meant you were 3/24 and understand how it worked. The "With Chase" part should've caught our attention that maybe you didn't quite understand. Sorry for your denial, wish we could've provided better advice.

Do you know the dates the new AMEX accounts were opened in 2016 (as listed on your credit report)? I ask this question because without knowing this info, any advice we give would be based on assumptions...

NEW SURVEY FOR THE DISchurners!
This survey is for anybody here - not just members of our DISchurners Reddit group - and I'm referring to anybody here as a DISchurner ;). This survey may take approx. 10-15 minutes and you will be responding for ALL cards you have or have had while playing the churning game. I think this could be neat to see what the most popular cards are here among our DISchurners. I've attempted to include every popular card that is available nationwide. At the end there is a comment section in the event I missed a important card.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F3HVYDH Have at it! Hopefully you enjoy a trip down memory lane with all of your cards!

I'll leave the survey open for a week or so and then post results for all to see.

FYI: If you are in 2 player mode - answer the questions combined between both players.

soo many NEVERS for me... :\ :/

You should get the 2+1 day tickets at UT. They are $254. They should come as 3 day tickets. After you use the tickets, upgrade them in the park to APs. Now when I did this last year, the price for 3 day tickets at the park were $274 and the Seasonal was $284. It cost me $10.60 to upgrade. However now, it looks like the 3 day online is $274, it is usually $20 more at the gate, so it would be $294 at gate for a 3 day, $10 cheaper than the seasonal. So do they now give you $10 to upgrade?? Lol I am not sure! But, it will save more money to buy all from UT than to use your discount on gate prices. You can check the AP hotel prices yourself by putting in APH in the code box.

Hmm, I was looking at Universal tix on UT and I saw the price was $263.62 for adult 2 day park-to-park ticket + 1 day free. Did you use a Mousesavers link to see the $254 price or were you looking at a different ticket? I was wondering how they figured the price to upgrade, if it's their gate prices or the price you paid for your ticket (like price-bridging at Disney). I'll probably pose the question in the Universal forum to see if they can give some more clarity. It does seem like a great idea to upgrade one ticket to AP for the discount so thanks for that advice! :goodvibes

I started a thread on the Universal Resorts board a few years ago that's still going strong...it's sort of a crowdsourced watchdog thread for Annual Passholder hotel discounts. It's regularly updated, although the release dates for AP rates are not as cut and dried as they used to be. I would suggest reading through the first post and the last handful of pages, and subscribing to it so you'll get the latest updates.
I started buying one seasonal annual pass per year to take advantage of the room discounts, which have been substantial. We always go in January, which is off peak, so I've never had to worry about blackout dates. Last January we got an AP rate of ~$200 for Portofino, which was less than RPR. I'd gladly stay there again!

Thanks for the info! I actually was looking at that thread this morning, what an awesome resource! Thanks for pointing me to it, I will definitely start checking it regularly. That's a great rate on the Portofino resort! I'd probably be happy with any of the three with Express Pass, but Portofino would be awesome to try! :flower3:

Do you want us to include 2 player mode cards or just our own?

oooh, no, yes it refers to all cards in 24 months. What months did your amex cards open in 2016? They will fall off this year, so you can re evaluate at that point.

Yes, it looks like I was looking at Mousesavers rates. I found the Universal forums to be hit or miss when it comes to information. Most people on there are asking questions because they have never been, and it is almost as if the people that are in the know don't always like to share the information maybe they don't want too many Disney people changing over to the dark side. lol Here is a thread I made after our trip when I upgraded the tickets. I made the post because I had such a hard time finding the information to begin with. Our plan was to upgrade 1 ticket, when I saw how cheap it was, we upgraded all 5. Figured for $10 each if we didn't use again, not that big of a deal, and if we did, then great, tickets taken care of. We did end up going again, thanks to SW points and CP, the flights were free, but did pay out of pocket for 3 nights at PBH, and that is not budget, even with AP rates so that $50 did end up costing a lot! But we enjoyed it!

Pro: everything is on one screen. You can see everything.
Con: you will be using the old layout, not the new one. Although your old personal login will still work and show the new layout. Ppl has issues with Chase Pay but it works fine for me, if it doesnt work for you, there is always the personal login available to use.
This happened to us, but they did fix it. When we finally reached the correct Chase department (Business technical support), they were able to separate Business/Personal for us. Now I have a personal login (works with Chase Pay) and a business login and shows both business/personal.
I might try for the Marriott Biz card in a few months. With all my Chase personal accounts, they automatically appear under my login when I get approved for a new card. Is there an option to set up a biz login when you get a new biz card? I would not want them co-mingled and would hate to have problems using Chase Pay.

We are currently planning 4 park days but I've considered staying another night and adding a 5th day. I don't expect us to be DLR regulars so I want to make sure we get to do it all.
Radiator Springs is just awesome. Like you step into the movie, amazing detail. Radiator Springs Racers (the ride) is so fun! Try to ride during the day and at night.

I did the same with my CIP. Once I received the card I just went to the chase site, but didn't login using my personal login info. I just created an entirely new login for biz.

I’ve been following this board for a few months and think I am ready to dip my toes into the water…I must admit I still get headaches and my eyes may glaze over a bit when too many CSP, CSR, CIP, RIP (lol) acronyms are bandied about.

A bit of history… I am 54 and would travel the world if both my finances and my hubby were in agreement. MY dh is 61 and isn’t so inclined. He has some health issues and is looking at open heart surgery sometime ??? this year. We have a WDW trip for 10 days scheduled for March and that will be the extent of travel for this year, except maybe a trip to Alaska to visit my parents around the end of the year, health willing. If my Disney Jonesing gets too bad we MIGHT do a short trip to DLR sometime early 2019, but my dh proclaims he HATES DLR, even though it was 1993 when we were last there!

My goals: Travel is mostly on the west coast; Alaska, L.A., Vegas, B.C., and when we have an AP to WDW we try to squeeze in 3-4 trips to Florida. We fly Alaska Airlines because it works the best for us. As long as they keep the direct PDX-MCO flight we have little interest in SW Air. We will be getting an AP again sometime after Star Wars Land opens. I would like to maximize my AK Air miles for that travel and have the ability to book WDW hotels with points.

Credit: I believe I am at 1/5 as of 1/4/18. TU 834 EQ 832 (Dipped in 12/17 to high 700’s due to credit utilization)

Disc IT 11.5k Joint no fee 02.09.94

US Bank Flex Points 20k Joint no fee 08.01.11

BoA AK Air Signature 7.5k Ind $75 07.12.13

CITI Costco 20k Ind no fee 08.25.13

AMEX Blue Pref 20k Ind no fee 01.04.16

Disney Visa 15k Ind no fee 10/13/17

Additional info: My monthly spend is not large and I don’t want to MS. Three thousand in three months is a number I can usually attain. There will be times that number can increase; when my husband has his surgery as we have a large deductible to meet (time unknown as of now), in October insurance is due, and this March we are going to DW. I usually pay for this with Disney Gift cards bought at a discount (currently @ BJ’s with my 5% Discover, or AMEX at grocery store for 6%) but can certainly use a new CC to pay for some of it.

Cards with a large AF but with travel credits are not of great interest to me right now due to the uncertainty of our travel abilities this year, but could be of more value once we are ready to get our AP in late 2019 or early 2020.

I can probably qualify for a Business card on a Rental Property Income of around $6k annually.

This is mostly an individual endeavor. I have not spoken to my DH about it, because he would most likely freak out. I can probably get a card or two in his name, but I will be responsible for the spend. I just sent him out SPECIFICALLY to put a small spend on our US Bank Visa just to keep activity on it and he managed to use the WRONG card! LOL! During the Economic Crash we had a few cards closed by the issuers due to lack of use.

Thanks in advance for the help. You all are so friendly and helpful here!

Well you're starting in a great place - you are at 1/24 for Chase's purposes (I see you say 1/5 above but it's expressed as 1/24 meaning 1 card in the last 24 months).

One of the topics we've discussed a lot around here recently is using Chase Ultimate Rewards (URs) to book hotels and packages at Disney World. URs are easy to earn for beginners, but much harder for those who have applied for a lot of cards recently due to that pesky 5/24 rule mentioned earlier. URs are amazing because when you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) they are worth 1.5 cents per point towards travel such as hotels and airline tickets. Additionally, URs can be transferred to partners too if that makes sense for you. Just yesterday I had a post that detailed all the cards that you can use to earn URs so I'll paste an excerpt here:

85k = Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) => 80k bonus + 5k min spend (business card)
54k = Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) => 50k bonus + 4k min spend + $300 Travel Credit which can be hit twice in the first year
59k = Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) => 50k bonus + 4k min spend + 5k AU
33k = Chase Ink Cash (CIC) => 30k bonus + 3k min spend (business card)
18k = Chase Freedom (CF) => 15k bonus + 2.5k AU + 500 min spend
18k+ = Chase Freedom Unlimited (CFU) => 15k bonus + 2.5k AU + 750 min spend (1.5x URs)

Many of these cards also don't charge the Annual Fee for the first year so that's a great benefit! Now I'm not specifically recommending you go right out and hit all of those cards. BUT if you did you'd earn over 267,000 URs which would be worth over $4,000 in hotels at Disney, Flights OR could be transferred to a program like Singapore Airlines which I believe can be used to book on Alaska Airlines (I am SO not an expert on this one so please check me on that).

The reason you'd want to consider Chase first is once you're over 5/24 (5 cards in 24 months) the cards I list above will not be available to you again (unless you wait to be under 5/24 again which sometimes doesn't make sense). Once you move past Chase there are numerous options including BofA Alaska Airlines cards, Barclay Arrival+ and other cards that offer flexible travel points, Hotel specific cards and of course the AMEX Membership Rewards (MRs). MRs can be earned on over a dozen cards and also have some nice travel partners and redemption options.

I know this doesn't exactly give you a road map but my advice would be to do some reading and ask some more specific questions as you narrow things down. Remember that you're in a great starting spot and with a good plan you can achieve A LOT of free and deeply discounted travel.

Also - when you're ready to apply please consider supporting other DISers by using links on our DISchurners group on Reddit where it makes sense.
