I love credit cards so much!

I never noticed SW gift cards at Sams til today. That could be because I never pay money for SW flights :rolleyes1. I was thinking since I need a bazillion URs for hotels stays now to get 2 rooms, and a bazillion more for 5 flights (6th on CP), I could buy discounted SW cards to save on flights if I have to pay cash...plus I am earning more points on said cash flights, so that is technically future savings. Just something to keep in my back pocket.

$500 GC is $485.98...approx 2.8% off. Use Walmart gift card bought with chase pay/freedom bonus...5% discount. So almost 8% off and earn points on the flight too.
We've got $200 in SW GCs right now, $100 was a gift and $100 was purchased by mistake somehow :rolleyes1 And they've jut been locked up because we had lots of points plus CP until the end of this year. But they sent that promo out for double points between now and mid-June, and my first thought was hey, that's the perfect time to use them!

As long as you keep in mind you can't combine SW GC's and you can only use 3 forms of payment per passenger including a credit card/PayPal.
Also, you can cash out Swagbucks for Walmart gift cards to use at Sam's, too, to discount it a little more.

I went to Walmart today to do a bill pay on my discover credit card. I used my discover debit card and did 1500. The fee was a $1.50. Hopefully, I get cashback on the purchase. I’ll let everyone know.

Of course Discover had a fraud alert so I spent 15 mins on hold. When that was sorted out I go to the cashier that voided my transaction and she starts helping me again. I was standing near her register. The next guy on line starts talking about shooting me with his shotgun. He thought I cut. all the cashiers were like no she was here. He then goes since you are a lady I won’t shoot you. He was then going on about how he likes to shoot bigger guys because they go down harder and the smaller guys tend to fly.... I really hate Walmart....

I forgot about that promo! Great idea!

This sounds like the beginning of an episode of Law & Order SVU...Yikes!

Hit my MSR on the CIP and my bonus is pending. Yay! So exciting. Happened earlier than I anticipated. I guess that is a good thing?

DH was approved for his CIP and it should arrive any day now. We have an orthodontist bill for over 4,000 that we will put on it right away and hit that spend very quickly. So, that has me contemplating my next move.

I would really like to double dip the CSR/CSP. I would have to wait until the beginning of June to make sure that I clear the two years since my last CSP bonus. I am 3/24 (plus the CIP I just got in February.) Not sure if I should just cool it and try to focus on bonus UR earning. I could do the CIC but that seems risky given that I JUST got the CIP two months ago. And then I am not sure I would have too much credit with Chase to get both the CSP/CSR. I am really wanting that CSR.

I currently have: CIP, Both personal SW cards with CP until the end of the year. Barclay Arrival (downgraded from Arrival+) and an oldish Disney Visa (no fee). DH has a CF, so we get the bonus categories there when we aren't meeting a MSR (which has been rare lately).

We value hotel points higher than airlines since we are a big family and don't mind roadtripping to our destinations. We love when hotels accommodate six, so Hyatt Place is our go to lately. Suites are awesome.

Thoughts? I might as well get another personal card before I double dip, right? But my top choices aren't under 5/24 anyway and there aren't really any great bonuses right now. What to do...

Speedyfishy - I hope that was a Walmart over in Va and not one over here in Md!! I walked through the garden area of my local Walmart this morning, but didn't buy anything. Yet. They did have a things I'd like in my garden. But that guy better get more careful about what he says in public.

You are safe. I was in NOVA. I really hope the guy was just mentally ill and just talking and I don’t see his face on the news about how he murdered multiple people. I didn’t get that vibe from him but idk. SO says I should have called the cops.

Your pace with Chase could become a concern. You got a CIP in 2/2018. When did you get the other 3 cards? (Mo and Yr). If you got a CIC (soon) and then try to double dip CSP/CSR you could end up with 4 Chase cards in 6 months - that may not be a good plan. If you get any other personal card with Chase that could also present a "pace" problem. Once you double dip that's it...you can't get another Chase personal, you can't get a CIC...that's a tough call...

I'm not suggesting you listen to me - but if I were in your shoes here's what I would do...
1) YOU Get an AMEX biz card of some sort
2) optional YOU Get a Chase personal card (not CSR/CSP) to go 4/24
3) HUSBAND Get a card (business or personal depending on his 5/24 status)
4) YOU Get a CIC - still 4/24
5) HUSBAND Get another card (business or personal depending on his 5/24 status)
6) YOU double dip CSR/CSP - now you're over 5/24

I would spread that strategy over the next 12 months in that order to keep your pace of play with Chase down. What does your Husband's stats look like? Could he potentially be the one to double dip the CSP/CSR instead of you?

I have been reading everyone's experiences with paying taxes and getting credit for it (i.e. - MSR, points, etc.)

I posted about a week or so ago that we have a huge $10k bill. It's federal taxes from a mistake from last year. Wonderful, right? Anyway, I have been losing sleep over which would be the best way to pay for it (we have the money, but what would be the best payment options, I mean).

Some of you have given wonderful suggestions about opening an biz card which I am not really comfortable doing at this time. I was looking at the Amex Schwab Plat too, but we already have GE, don't pay fees to airlines, or use Uber. So if I didn't get the extra points to dump into our Schwab account for this swipe, I would be really upset since the AF is so high.

We have two Freedoms and was looking to max out the PayPal category on both at a 1.97% fee. But what about the excess? Has anyone paid a large tax bill multiple ways? Two cards with one payment servicer and maybe another card with another lower-fee servicer or even a check? :duck:

I have until the 25th to pay it.

ETA: I am at 3/24, I think with two of those slots being Disney (7/17) and IHG (3/18 - about 2.5 weeks ago), and the other being CSR (1/17)

Based on what Southwest has done in the past - If you are looking for early March, then possibly late June/early July - later than the first week of March, possibly sometime in August.

Nobody knows for sure. The next flight release is May 31 for flights to early January. Shortly after that they should give some indication of when the next release will be.
So is May 31 when Thanksgiving flights will be released? Do you know what time?

I'm not sure if my answer is what you are looking for, but I paid a $9,500 federal tax bill on Thursday using two different payment sites and two different ccs. I used the site you are looking at with the 1.97% fee and PayPal to max out the CF on the bonus for this quarter. That was just slightly over $800 including the fee. Then I put the balance on our CFU on Pay1040.com to get their slightly lower fee of 1.87%.

I liked your comment, but really only the first part. I do hate Walmart...and I'm in a state where there was a shooting at a Walmart just a few months ago. :crazy2:

First statement closed on DH's SPG biz yesterday, and now today I can use the new version showing how many starpoints were earned per transaction... the last things to show starpoints earned is from 4/8, the last few days don't have anything yet. And neither does my tax payment from 4/1. April Fool's Day joke? Fingers crossed. Statement hasn't generated yet online and YTD starpoints on account page hasn't updated yet.
Where can you see per transaction? Can’t find it.

Yeah, I am worried that I am hitting Chase a little too hard. Disney Visa was 2/2015, Got a CSP in 2/16, closed a year later. SW cards were 6/17. CIP 2/18. So it was pretty steady but you're right that 4 in six months might be overkill. Plus, my credit limits with Chase are crazy high, although I will be closing those SW cards this summer, so that would help.

DH is also 3/24 currently plus the CIP he was just approved for. He just closed a CSP he'd had since 1/16. Arrival+ in 4/17. Two SW personal cards in 9/17. We are in very similar situations.

I like your suggestion except that it requires me to be patient and wait for that CSR. lol. But that could really be for the best. I am not sure what AMEX biz cards are out there, might have to do some research. Maybe SPG but I just missed the increased bonus and that all seems very up in the air right now. I have never really thought that MRs would be great for us because we value hotels over flights and hotel partners are limited. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

Where can you see per transaction? Can’t find it.
When you go to the statements and activity tab, there is a button on the right side (under the chart/whatever that is that I always ignore :)) that says see Preview new version (beta). Then you can click on a transaction and see how many starpoints it earned. But it's in beta mode, so it seems to be pretty buggy still.
