Well I have gone off the rails. SO and I woke up this am thinking what should we do today. Well we decided at 11:30 AM that we would be getting on a 2:20 flight to Orlando for one night at Disney World. I quick booked flights used Southwest points and the companion pass. It was expensive at 26,000 points so I had to transfer some from Chase. On the Lyft ride I called Chase trying to book a hotel and tickets. They were saying there was nothing available so I just got two day park hoppers with points. I booked pop at $200 on the Disney website and I’ll get $100 back from the CSR. left our apartment at 12 and got to BWI at 1. Boarding in 7 mins. This is so reckless but man it feels great. I’m a planner and have never done something like this. It is so fun and points made it all possible. I love you all.
Sounds like a lot of fun! Have a great weekend.

That’s awesome have fun! We are in the same boat. I’m a complete planner and kind of anal about things but I just said who cares let’s go next weekend since I have two days off. I really wanted to go to after hours again.

Last minute trips are so fun. I have no ADRs and made Fastpasses in the Lyft but this is so fun. I just saw they have the after hours available tonight. Should have probably bought 1 day tickets and that. But oh well we are 90% sure we are updating to APs

weird question. I (think) I pc'd DH's amex Hh card t the ascend offer...I'm an au on this acct(before I realized no au's etc) anyway i got a card in MY name, with my Au number on it in the mail but not DH's.... and I checked the approval email,it's dh's email we use for his stuff, but my name says approved...any idea what's happening?

I would say that the parents are correct. Once you deposit the check, you've lost your bargaining chip, especially with the newly found damage. The TV lawyers say don't sign away your rights, lol!

Insurance checks that I've received usually have some language right on them.

Totally agree. This happened to me a few months ago (oh, why didn't we sign up for those new cards back then???). 6K check then they found more damage. We waited until it was all ok'ed by the insurance company and the balance paid (they sent a $1K check directly to the auto body shop) before we cashed that check and paid for the repairs... just in case they came back and said that our cashing the check meant we agreed to the amount. I was dealing with both insurance companies since I was hit and the other driver was clearly at fault... still wanted to make sure we didn't end up with a bill somehow.

We’ll only have two days so we made an adr at raglan road so we can do ds the first night. We want to do the Star Wars vr. The second day I made an adr at rix sports bar since we are staying at Coronado springs. Then we will go to after hours!

Ok, maybe a silly question... but I have now received both checks from our insurance for the damage they found during their appraisals, minus our deductible. One vehicle is at the shop now waiting for insurance to approve another $1200 in damage they found and the other hasn't gone yet.

Is there any reason I can't deposit the insurance checks today to sit in my savings and earn a little interest before the vehicles are fixed and the credit card payments are due? Last year when I went through this with my car and mentioned the idea to DH/his parents, they got all worked up about how I shouldn't do that because it meant I was accepting the number the insurance gave me and that then insurance wouldn't pay for any more... Is this true for hail damage?

I was with your in-laws as this can be the case in accident settlements. But as I found out when hubby got rear ended last year it's not always a problem, at least with how this auto-body work happens. Because there can be damage not seen in the initial assessment the initial check is cut but the full claim is still contingent on inspection after they start the repair or at least open to supplemental payments. I'd talk with the adjuster to confirm, but you should be ok to do what you propose.
But we did have a problem with how the insurance company processed it later and just took an extra phone call to straighten it out. They cut hubby a check, he deposited it and figured he'd pay with a CC, turns out the auto body didn't take CC and usually has the customer sign over the insurance check. (Since we already cashed it, they accepted a personal check.) The car also needed a supplemental check, which he signed the form to have the insurance company pay the shop directly. This is where it went really off the rails - the insurance decided to cancel the first check and reissue one check for the full amount to hubby and not the body shop :sad2: No idea where they got that from, so there was an extra phone call to get it worked out and the insurance company had to eat a few fees. So I'd just run it all by the adjuster to see how they usually handle it so you can avoid some of our headache.

hehe, with exceptions... :] CI+ can refer CIP for some odd reason.

Yes, always exceptions! That's why I'm not good with quick answers, I should just stop trying :)
If you have a discontinued card you can sometimes refer to the replacement card. My discontinued "old" IHG card can refer to the new IHG Premier card. Which is why I figure your CI+ can refer to the CIP. But I haven't found an active card that can allow a referral to different card, even in the same family. At least not one I've been looking for.

I use to look at my Southwest points and plan these 1 day trips all the time, but never did it. Good for you! I hope you get a ton of pixie dust!

Thanks @mmmears @Judique @EC0323 @miztressuz

I know our insurance will pay the supplemental amount straight to the shop. I think waiting for the supplemental to be paid will be best. It's one of my first experiences dealing with insurance so I wasn't sure what to think :) Last time I did get try to get it in writing through the USAA claim message center... I went looking for their response just now:

Hello, I received this check in the mail on Saturday. I have made an appointment with my chosen shop but they are unable to see me until July 12th. They are going to give an estimate because my understanding is they need to see if they find any more damage, so if they amount totals to more than my current estimate, we have to bring it to USAA to be approved before repairs are made. What is the best course of action for me with the check? Shall I hold onto it without depositing it, or deposit it into my account while I wait until the car can be repaired?

The choice is completely up to you. You can hold onto the check and endorse it to the body shop. A lot of people like to deposit the check, then pay with a credit card so they earn reward points.

First redemption of UR points!!! I was looking a few of my hotels for Glacier/Banff/Jasper. Checking to see if any were lower in price and decided to check out the Chase Portal. We have a one night stay in Cranbrook, AB at the best western. Found it on the portal for a little cheaper (still refundable) and booked with points. I am thinking since I have the hotel confirmation number I should be able to look it up on the BW site and it says reservation not found. I still have my original reservation (you know, just in case). Maybe I need to wait? Looking for other data points on if you are able to see your UR points reservations on the hotel website.

Do you mean through your loyalty account? I haven't done hotels since last year but we stayed at several and I was not able to see any of our reservations through our loyalty accounts.

Do that. Having AP’s is the way to go. I do it and it is a 4 hour flight and have to buy for 5! I have done After Hours 3 different times. One up charge that is definitely worth it.

The interest would be pretty minimal, I would think. Insurance companies want to get things settled. But, I'm firmly in the camp of 'don't sign the check until all the work is done to my satisfaction'.

Awesome reply ;)

It's not necessarily cashing the check that automatically accepts anything, you have to read the agreement that comes with it (or on it) to check for that type of language. There are definitely many instances where the agreement states that by accepting the check the claim is considered resolved/closed/what-have-you and so by cashing it you've accepted it and poof, then yer done. But after this last one we found a time where it had some kind of clause that allowed supplemental work and the claim wasn't closed until the repairs were complete.

If it's only a matter of weeks, the interest you'd earn wouldn't be much so your opportunity cost from hanging onto the check would be low. For this instance, peace of mind might be cheap.

Have a great time!! I miss how spontaneous my dh & I could be before kids. Now, we HAVE to plan. Enjoy the fun!

Sounds amazing! Hope you get to enjoy After Hours! We are excited for our turn in Sept. I read your pots to my DH and said that we couldn't do this with our toddler His reply was that she did ask us "where are we going today?" as soon as we walked her room this morning. I should have said WDW!

I never wear socks at Disney. I wear flip flops - usually the Croc ones, but I've worn Nikes and others as well. Never have a foot problem.
I only brought sneakers. Worse case I can buy crocs there.

Do you need any help with FP? I’m decent at getting same day for the good rides and am happy to stalk the app for you. If we’re MDE friends I can then move them over to you.

Thank you so much for offering, that is so nice of you. but I actually got everything I wanted in the Lyft. I was shocked even frozen ever after had availability for later today. I’m hearing summer is the new dead time. We got Soarin, spaceship earth and figment. Epcot closes at 9 but then we are going to go to DHS because they close at 10:30 and we are hoping the new toy story waits aren’t insane then. I just checked and AS2 is at 25 and slinky dog is at 65. I’d wait that long for two new rides. We will also be going tomorrow am for extra magic hour at Hollywood and then hop to MK. We booked our fastpasses later in the day at magic kingdom and got our favorites.

Trying to stop myself from looking for another credit card today. I got my Marriott Biz in June and the spend is almost finished - about $400 to go.

Came home from Hilton Head with an ear infection and the remnants of the poison oak/ivy whatever that I had gotten into before I left. Meanwhile my yard has gone to pot. I'm trying to get it back together today, little by little. Work a half hour, cool off, come read I love credit cards and email, talk on my cell, eat (a huge bowl of strawberries, bananas and blueberries). I'm a busy (retired) girl! The &%$#@ deer ate all my blueberries while I was gone and then had the nerve to be in my yard looking for more berries this morning - four of them! they effortlessly cleared the fences running away from my angry scowls. There were mulberries earlier, the aforementioned blueberries, and also a lot of wild blackberries, which is what they seem to be eating now.

I also have peach trees and my next door neighbor has apples and pears. We are just feeding nature around here.

Anyway, I'm really hoping I can get that SPG luxe card when it comes. I'm not believing the reports that if you have spg/Marriott you can't get it. I want it. I also want the spg biz but it's pretty pathetic right now.

But, before I take a shot at these amex temptations, I need a UR card. You guys need to get me through a couple more months so I can stay focused on the plan, which is to get my UR cards in shape, then go for other bonuses.
