I'm having a hard time deciding on what card to go for next. I was hoping to fill my last 5/24 slot this year so I'd have a bunch of openings in 2020 when theoretically I could churn cards. Although given the changes recently it might not make it that long
Totally open to suggestions.
Hubby is still 3/24 so worst case is he picks up a couple cards if something awesome comes up and I'm locked out. He actually has all the personal cards I planned for him already so that's wide open. The next card he's planned for is a CSP in May/June next year, now that the double dip is dead... unless by some miracle it's resurrected by then... off the support link from my CSP, assuming that loophole still works at that point since it'll be after I downgrade mine.
Tentative thoughts so far on Chase cards I don't already have:
- CFU - will downgrade CSP to get this next year.
- SW - this was part of the plan, but I could go for the biz version instead if can find another card (breaks vow on year between biz cards, but it's not an Ink so I feel it's justifiable and it'd be about 6 months since last card)
- United - maybe? I have no love for them but I do have some points already and sometimes they are the best route. but Biz version has higher bonus.
- BA - probably not. I have some Avios but I can't think of a good way to use them. Unless they better than the United option?
- Marriott - locked out due to SPG. SPG personal would be my non-Chase card to burn my 5/24 slot on.
- Starbucks - no. (I don't how I missed it but it has an AF?! WTH?)
- Amazon - no. P2 has it, see no reason to have 2.
- AARP - honestly would consider it but not at this juncture, I'd go for the CFU bonus first. Is it subject to 5/24?
- CIP - Assuming I don't go 6/24 this year, I'll drop below 5/24 again after 5/19 so current plan was to "spend" the $95 CSP fee on the CIP for that bonus instead (whatever that bonus might be) next year. (but if I get a Chase and SPG personal, then I'm stuck until next Dec)
I think these aren't subject to 5/24 still, correct? So even if I wanted them I'd be better holding off.
- Hyatt - probably not. We already have 3 hotel programs and we don't travel frequently enough to really support that as-is.
- Disney Premier - probably not. Have to have an awesome sign up bonus.
- IHG - probably not. I've got the Select card and it suits our needs. I don't need to buy points for the AF yet plus I haven't used my unrestricted free night yet.
Other non-Chase cards are the SPG personal and maybe Hilton personal for me. Last card hubby needs is a no AF MR card so he can close his Green card. Wanted to try for the 20k BBP, but if we do that I'm not sure we'd have enough spend for me to get a higher MSR card too. I'd have to stick with 1k or less that I can fund bank accounts with
(that's about the level of MS I'm sorta comfortable with.) Or we do the 10k from a support link, I'm more interested in the fact it's no AF business card than the bonus, otherwise he could go for the ED card from my support link to get a higher bonus with the 15k + 10k MR from that.
This was a little easier when I could double dip the last slot, I could grab a 'meh' card too and not care so much. And given how everything has turned out, I don't regret taking up slots 3 and 4 with my Sapphire double dip. My original plan was for the Marriott card to be #5 but that's out, so I cancelled my SW for a shot at another bonus. If they keep 24 month language on SW we're setup to alternate churning a card each year since hubby got his last Dec. But I have a nagging feeling I'm missing out on something by grabbing a card I've had before rather than expanding the portfolio
On the plus side, I'm already getting emails from SW for credit card offers. (FYI, nothing good yet) For a little while they kept trying to sell me the card I already had, and if they would have given me another I may have done it but I suspected you couldn't hold two Premiers at the same time, but I think they finally realized the mistake and went back to no offers for any of the cards. (not even an upgrade offer when Priority came out) I'm hoping for something sweet like hubby was targeted for last year, the Plus @ 40k
but $100 stmt credit, but not holding my breath.
So torn between attempting to get all the Chase cards we may want for myself and then using hubby to double up, which means we both need to keep an eye on 5/24, or just going 5+/24 and keeping hubby open for the rest of the Chase cards we haven't picked up yet. (i'd love lol/24 but our expenses just won't support it
) I'm not good at decisions, I like to have my cake and to eat it too.
