Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Saw the Skyliner test video yesterday and it is so exciting. I am still holding onto a glimmer of hope that it will be open for our September 21 trip. I think that is the first day of Fall anyways, so it fits Disney’s Fall opening schedule. :flower1:
Has anyone in here been debating about whether Pop prices will go up due to the new Skyliner now being another transportation mode at Pop?

The Skyliner construction noise is very little now that all the pilings are installed. We’ve walked by the Skyliner station often during the construction and can say we’ve never heard any noise at all. Personally I wouldn’t give it a second thought.
Is the Skyliner station over by the bridge between Pop and AoA?

My husband and I stayed here one night on January 27, 2019 before we moved to Coronado Springs for the week. We liked the way the room was decorated, it was very nice. However, please be aware that the walls seemed to be incredibly thin and you could hear your neighbors actions without trying. Luckily, we only had to stay one night. We will not be staying at Pop Century again. This is why Disney provides a large variety of resorts, so if we don't like one, we can move on to another.:sunny:
I don't doubt this happened but after 20+ stays at Pop I can say I've only truly heard noise from another room once or twice. It can happen but I don't believe it's the norm.

It may or may not happen. It's not really being debated because if/until it happens, there is nothing to really discuss.

For my family, if it does increase the price we will continue to stay at Pop as long as the budget allows. If prices increase drastically and All Stars continue with their renovations we may consider moving there if we have to. But, it would have to be drastic price changes and we'd go kicking and screaming. I've been Pop faithful since the day the resort opened except for 3 nights at other resorts. Pop is our home away from home!

Yes, the Skyliner is being built coming out the side of the bridge between Pop and AoA.

They really need to restrict the Skyliner during the first days of opening; otherwise, all the Skyliner hotels are going to be flooded. If the Skyliner can hold 5 thousand people per hour, you can bet 10 thousand or more are going to show up. It will make it impossible to cross the bridge to get to AofA. It might even be impossible to get out of the 60s to go to the food court!!!

I mean, looking at the opening day of Pandora, where people waited 5 hours just to get in the place. The Skyliner is practically a ride, and it's free! The restrictions only have to last until the newness wears off. I'd say it would probably take a couple of months. However, you will always have people who come to Pop from Epcot or HS just for the gondola ride, then turn around and ride back. Just like the monorail.

Another way is for Disney to charge for rides on the gondola for non gondola hotel guests. The magic band makes that very easy to do. But even that may not take care of the problem. So yeah, they should really restrict it. I hope so, I don't want the 60s to be flooded with people in line.
Interesting thoughts. Pop is our go to resort and I think this will definitely change pricing and numbers. Happy to have another mode of transportation, but wondering if our Pop stay might be spoiled because of it.

People speculate that yes prices will go up, but I don’t really know. I guess it depends if people are booking just because of the gondola. I really can’t see the prices going up that much more though. Pop has a lot going for it and we love it, but the rooms are small, there is no table service and no slides or hot tubs. I really don’t think it’s going to draw moderate/deluxe lovers in.

I'm curious if your room had a connecting door or not. Those have always been a problem for me. You can hear them without trying explains it well. I request a non-connecting room wherever I stay.

I think it really just depends on your neighbors. We had a connecting room at pop and the people that were loud were on the other side of us (non connecting room). They weren’t really loud in their room but outside their room and continuously let their door slam shut at 7 am. I even had to go out two different mornings and just kindly remind them that we are trying to sleep. They also let their children hit things against the metal railings outside our room which echoed loudly.

Oh wow! So disappointing that you had to go out there two mornings. We have been fortunate in that way so far with no one really loud. Our experiences have been mostly just hearing what they are saying which seems minor in comparison.

Yeah we really didn’t hear them too much in their room. They congregated outside their door and talked in the morning and let their kids go in and out of the room a million times.

I don't know if the prices will go up because of the gondola, but the overall prices of the value hotels have been going up fast just the past couple of years, even before the gondola came to the scene. I remember about 4 years back when Pop's preferred rooms were discounted to $90! Yeah, I think Pop's price will go up even more, as much as Disney can get out of the place, depending on how the Skyliner will work out, how often it has to be down due to storms and such, how hot the cabins get when the sun comes out. If it works out nicely and people love it, Pop should have no trouble raising its prices all the way to Moderate level. It's pretty close even now. Like in June, Pop's non-discounted preferred pool view costs $189, whereas CB's preferred room during the same time, discounted, costs $208. Granted, one's discounted and one isn't, but it's getting difficult to find discounted rooms at Pop and one is often stuck with paying non-discounted prices. So imagine the Skyliner being popular, what that will do to Pop's prices.

For us, we are sticking with Pop no matter how much they charge.

And with Pop's new pool renovation, it wouldn't surprise me that they will put in a few small, slow, safe, inexpensive yet cute slides, like the one my local motel has (but much cuter). That alone will put Pop over AofA because they have no slides, just a bunch of statues. That might also help Pop to reach moderate prices.

I am getting ready for the Skyliner to mess things up for us. Most people here seem to think that the gondola will work great, and I'm not against that (seriously, why would I be?!) but I am taking precautions in case it doesn't. I suspect that most people will be OK with the gondola but we won't be. IF the gondola ends up being very hot, IF there is a long line, IF the buses get reduced drastically or removed completely, we will be taking Uber.

I personally believe that Disney will not hesitate to run the gondola even when it's rather hot in there. They will also cut down the buses even if the gondola has a long line. They already do that with the Epcot/HS friendship boats, which are stifling hot in the summer and have a super long line at park closing. (Plus it's horribly slow; we always beat it by walking.) I suspect that being that Pop and AofA share a gondola station that has 2 destinations combined into one line, if there ever is a line for the gondola, it will be there and not at CB or Rivera.

I take 3 kids to WDW by myself every year and I don't want to be caught in a situation which I'm not prepared for. Hopefully none of my worst fears (heat, long lines, bus gone) will happen and everything works out and I don't have to do Uber. I much prefer Disney transportation. I adore the buses.

In the mean time, however, I am budgeting enough money for Uber. If I end up not having to spend it, we will buy turkey legs with the money.

I didn't have any issues hearing neighbors (and we were even ground floor), but the mini fridge was oddly noisy. Or something in the vicinity of the mini fridge, I'm not sure.

My believe is that they will not do away with the buses. There are to many people that are scared of heights and if someone is claustrophobic there may be an issue. It depends on the person.

They won't get rid of the buses...just like you have hotels that multiple modes of transportation (like the monorail, boat, etc.) they will do the same here. The Skyliner will just be an added option that will actually help spread the bottleneck of guests across the different vehicles of transport.

They won't get rid of buses but will they greatly reduce the number of buses going to Epcot and Hollywood Studios from POP and AoA...time will tell.

It is anticipated that they MAY reduce buses but we won’t know for sure until the Skyliner is up and functioning and load levels/waits have been determined. I don’t think we know for sure the impact it will have in the frequency of buses at this time.

Agreed...I would suspect that there "might" be an adjustment as it pertains to the parks served by the Skyliner...although as you said it is pure speculation and I anticipate it will be a lot of new ground to figure out from Disney Operations...

I look at it as all semantics until the Skyliner is functioning. Will there be less buses? Yes, I believe there will be but, there will also be less demand for the buses.

Currently at park opening and closing it is common to see bus after bus enter Pop for the same park. Once the Skyliner is open and a number of guests choose that form of transportation to DHS and Epcot there will be less demand for buses. The number of buses will decrease but I'm not willing to say at this time that the buses will be stopped entirely.

Just my thoughts and these thoughts could be wrong in the long run. time will tell....
