I am getting ready for the Skyliner to mess things up for us. Most people here seem to think that the gondola will work great, and I'm not against that (seriously, why would I be?!) but I am taking precautions in case it doesn't. I suspect that most people will be OK with the gondola but we won't be. IF the gondola ends up being very hot, IF there is a long line, IF the buses get reduced drastically or removed completely, we will be taking Uber.
I personally believe that Disney will not hesitate to run the gondola even when it's rather hot in there. They will also cut down the buses even if the gondola has a long line. They already do that with the Epcot/HS friendship boats, which are stifling hot in the summer and have a super long line at park closing. (Plus it's horribly slow; we always beat it by walking.) I suspect that being that Pop and AofA share a gondola station that has 2 destinations combined into one line, if there ever is a line for the gondola, it will be there and not at CB or Rivera.
I take 3 kids to WDW by myself every year and I don't want to be caught in a situation which I'm not prepared for. Hopefully none of my worst fears (heat, long lines, bus gone) will happen and everything works out and I don't have to do Uber. I much prefer Disney transportation. I adore the buses.
In the mean time, however, I am budgeting enough money for Uber. If I end up not having to spend it, we will buy turkey legs with the money.
