Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I would think Disney would have to continue the bus system to these resorts. There are people terrified of heights and/or enclosed spaces and discontinuing an alternate mode of transportation seems a bad decision on Disney's part.

I mean, unless you walk from the Boardwalk you can only get to HS or Epcot by boat and there are people terrified by boats and/or water so I don’t think Disney necessarily *has* to provide a bus.

But they can walk to HS or Epcot. That’s the difference.
I really hope that bus service continues at Pop, even if buses come with much less frequency.

Hi everyone! We've never stayed at Pop before, but we're thinking of adding a 4 night stay on at the end of our trip in October. Just wondering what area I should ask for when I call to reserve? We'll just be in a standard room. It will be myself, my husband, and our two kids aged 5 and 8. We will have a car, if that makes a difference. Thanks for any and all input! :)

Seeking information about the scavenger hunt at POP! Century... is this still available? How much time would you schedule for this activity? Going in May with our best friends and their 3 kids, ages 9, 11, and 14. Thanks!!

Doesn't really matter, honestly. I've stayed Standard in the '50s, '70s, and '90s, and the walk to Classic hall differed in only the most negligible of ways. From the '80s and '90s it's just a quick stroll through the parking lot to get to the buses. I found the '70s to be the quietest area of the resort (likely because of how there isn't a pool in that section). Other than that, not much of a difference. All of the rooms are the same.

If you stay in the 60s area of Pop (especially if you are at the VERY back of that section, by "Generation Gap Bridge") you will have the benefit of being within a very quick stroll to the Art of Animation. This gives you two things:

- Ready access another eatery (with more variety in our experience).

- Access to AofA bus transportation. That's not a big deal going TO the parks, but in the evenings coming home FROM the parks, it can be a huge advantage by giving you the flexibility to choose whichever bus (AofA or Pop) comes to the stop first at Epcot, MK, DHS, AK. (And in most instances the AofA and Pop bus stops are right by each other.)

Have fun!

But the Monorail resorts can ONLY access Epcot by Monorail and some Guests are "petrified" of riding the "Highway in the Sky".:)

I do think because of the "nature" of Gondolas, there is a good chance "limited" bus service of some sort may still be offered.

I really think however that the percentage of Guests who will not want to ride Skyliner will be very small-just Guests who have SERIOUS height and/or claustrophobia issues.

The advantages of Skyliner over buses is just going to be too great for most Guests to "turn it down":

No more standing at a Bus Stop waiting for the bus!(The Skyliner will continuously load.)

No more walking long distances from the Park Bus Stops to the turnstiles(At DHS,Skyliner Guests will be closer than any bus to the turnstiles and at Epcot Skyliner Guests will be steps away from the turnstiles at IG.)

Most Guests will view Skyliner as their first Attraction of the day!("Flying over Hourglass Lake will be seen as very GROOVY by most Guests.)

Skyliner will provide Guests with unique views of parts of WDW(if the timing is right maybe even a Gondola View of DHS and/or Epcot fireworks!).

No more being "packed like sardines" on a bus at Park Open and Park Close.:)

I think the difference is they’re taking away a form of transportation that the majority of people are comfortable with (bus service) and that’s always been available to Pop and replacing it with a form of transportation that does leave a chunk of guests who are unable to ride due to phobias. While many people avoid the monorail for various reasons when they can, many people just simply cannot get into a small enclosed bucket. You just really cannot compare the monorail (similar to a bus) to the gondola. I would think if you don’t have those problems, it would be difficult to understand. I don’t love the monorail, but I can ride it. I would have a full blown panic attack on a gondola.

I’m sure most guests will be thrilled by the gondolas and I’m happy for them. If bus service goes away altogether at Pop, I’ll probably opt for Uber or Lyft, or I may choose to stay somewhere else.

Further update to Water Park Bus Transportation.

According to this article: https://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories/new-bus-routes-for-walt-disney-world-water-parks-2/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+disney-updates+(Disney+Updates+-+wdwinfo.com), Buses going to the water parks will not be the ones going to AK and DS as they did in the past.

There will now be buses that are dedicated to going to the water parks. These buses will stop at both Pop and AoA.
Good. Last summer it took us 45 minutes to get back from Blizzard Beach. Have no idea why -- we didn't wait at all at Blizzard Beach, and we ony waited slightly at AK, and there was no traffic jams, but somehow the time was just gone! So I just took Uber. And when we went to TL one time, at DS there was this jerk of a CM yelling at everyone to go into the line waiting area first, then get on the bus, even though there was nobody at the waiting area! And he made me force my stroller with baby under the fence, just so that I will turn around and push it out of there and fold it for the bus!

And I believe the bus will go to AofA first, then us Pop, then BB. So we can go from Pop straight to BB, and coming back get off at AofA and walk back. Nice! (Or just sit on the bus till Pop, but I think walking is faster.)

The drawback is, we can't go from TL to DS anymore. We normally stop there to eat lunch. Hm, you can't have everything.

It matters how much you plan to use your car. If you are not going to use it hardly, then the 60s and surrounding areas are better if you can get it. If you are going to use your car mostly, then 90s or 80s might be better where you can get to your car conveniently. The 60s and surrounding areas are where the preferred rooms congregate, but I've heard people complain about it being too far from their cars.

Overall, Pop is fairly small compared to many other Disney hotels, so the location isn't a big deal if you are not picky. I've stayed at Caribbean Beach (preferred), Coronado Springs (standard) and All Stars Music (standard). Boy do you have to walk there!

I'm already planning on Ubering. I'm thrilled by the gondolas and want to see how they work out, but don't want to ride them myself. I'm not scared, I won't have a panic attack, I just don't like it during the day. Nights OK; can't see what a small enclosed bucket it is at night, and too tired to care. I don't love the monorail either, but I put up with it at times. Love Pop; can't stay at another hotel.

Where on MDE is the section of when buses arrive?

Is that only accessible when we are on property?
Yeah you can't see it until you check in. You'll click on resort reservation and it'll say see bus times.

Thank you!

Looking forward to using this feature!
We really like it. It helps us so we don't leave our room as early and stand at the bus stop waiting. I will say give yourself some time because the buses do occasionally show up early and won't wait. We've ran for a bus a couple of times lol
