I wish there wouldn't have been a pre-announcement for SWGE. We are all waiting around like idiots waiting for this thing to drop. And who knows if it will even drop this week?
But then if they don't pre announce people complain about not being prepared

For those who want google alerts, you can go to:
google.com/alerts
Then, in the "Create an alert about..." part, type in your specific word or phrase. For example, "Passholder". Then type site:disboards.com because you want this specific site.
So, it should look like:

"Passholder" site:disboards.com
I update mine in the "Show Options" drop-down box to be "As it happens"

Thanks -- I made my alert to be:
"Galaxy's Edge" AND "preview" AND "link" AND "passholder" site:disboards.com

Here is hoping it works :)

As much as I want to snag one of the previews for DH and myself, going for just the weekend will be an expensive "free" preview for us lol would almost rather they just announce an after hours party during our September trip along with this that was can go to. Would actually be cheaper for us! (But don't get me wrong, I will be trying to get the preview! Lol)

I thikn the heads up was so people could buy platinum passes if they wanted (esp at the new increased price). I'd be surprised if it was this week, I'm sure they want to milk those new AP purchases as long as possible.

I HOPE it's this week though so I can move on with my life. lol
I don't think their goal is to use the AP preview as a way to make extra money (by raising the AP prices). They raised the prices after the annoucement to help prevent TONS of people gobbling up APs just for the sole purpose of the preview.

The prices were raised (THAT much) not as a "greedy" move, but simply as a supply/demand way to decrease the demand for Annual Passes and thus decrease the number of people that can unexpectedly visit WDW any time they want, as much as they want. This is a way to reduce crowds by discouraging multiple visits in the same year and this is a way to manage crowds by forcing people to buy the tickets where you have to state the exact dates you plan on being in the parks.

If this helps reduce crowds .. I'm all for it.

This argument is made every year. lol. Crowds have not reduced yet. I don't believe the timing of the increase was a coincidence.

Same. I have 2 trips already. One in a week, and then one in Nov. I wish they'd announce plans for November, because I'd just plan around that instead. I can grab cheap flights for Aug if I snag this, but would prefer a plan for Nov that would get us in. :)

Do you think the previews will go all the way to the day before it opens? Or do you think they'll be a soft opening on the 28th?
No I don’t think they will go through to the 28th. They’ll have media days in there and other days for events and what not. Pandora previews did not go up to the day before opening.

My husband and I just got back from a trip, have one 9/9 and then back again in December. The flights are a bit crazy for the weekend I would think it would be so I'm hoping they'll go down in price if I do manage to get one!

On the Disney AP page, when you are logged in, does it only show active APs and no vouchers? If so, for anybody that has registered for events with a voucher (prior to activating), is it an issue that the voucher (platinum) is not showing there? For example, I have a soon to expire Gold AP and a Platinum voucher. Only the Gold AP is showing on the AP page. In general, will this cause issues registering for a preview? Thanks.

That goes back to people complaining no matter what.
Yep, there's a segment of people that will complain no matter what Disney does
Had they not raised prices it would be, Prices are too low, they are selling too many AP, it will be too crowded, even harder to get a spot in the event.
or, they announced this to sell more AP
now, they did it and raised prices and so it's just a money grab
had they not announced and just did it without warning it was limited to only select AP it would be a big issue that some were excluded without warning
now they did warn but they raised prices so it's just a money grab
but had they not raised prices it would have been the first problem above, just a way to sell more AP
so see, nothing they do can be seen as positive, it's all just a complaint.
To some. ESPECIALLY to some that like to come to this site. Something about it seems to bring out the "can't do anything right" bunch. I kinda think of them as being like Sadness from Inside Out. Not bad to have around and sort of important part of life LOL

The longer they wait to announce it .. the less crowded (and snatched up) the reservations will be. I am sure there is a large percentage of the Platinum (and above) Passholders that simply do not have the time to zip down to Orlando with less than 2 months notice.

No idea the amount of Platinum Passholders that are out there .. but I wonder .. what percentage of them do we think are:
1) Interested in going at all (not interested in Star Wars or have no plans to drop everything to go)
2) Interested, but able to make those last minute plans to go
3) Even know that it may be happening (I mean not EVERY passholder is in the know like we are here).

(Though .. that being said .. the people who can afford (time and money wise) APs, probably have the disposable time/money to do last minute things like this).

4. Those of us that already have a trip during the potential dates

4. Those of us that already have a trip during the potential dates
Good point .. but I would think that percentage is the smallest of the bunch -- but a lucky bunch (that could be frustrated based on the available days!)

This is me, too. It's cheaper for me to pay for a Star Wars event when we are already there, rather than flying in and staying for an extra trip!!

Considering how close it is to the already announced opening of GE, a bet more than you think
We fall into #4 and if it's close to the already announced opening, all we have to do is move our trip by a day or two
