January 2020 Discounts

Marathon Events start on Jan 8th (the Expo beginning date). The 5k is the 9th, 10k is the 10th, half is the 11th, and the full is the 12th. My friend and I are getting there on the 7th so that we can hit the expo when it opens on the morning of the 8th. She's only there from the 7th-10th since she can only do the 5k and has to be home sooner. Assuming my feet, ankles, knees, etc. hold out...I'm running the 5k, 10k, and half and will be sticking around most of the 12th to play in the parks for a bit and cheer on the full runners. Excited that the Christmas decorations will still be up too :)
WOW! that is awesome!! I'm tired reading about the runs! I'm glad you will still see the xmas decorations. I went 3 times in a row to see the holidays/ seasons. to the point where i went in Jan this year and it was refreshing to see Disney the "normal" way. Again we're planning Jan, but I do miss the the holiday decorations. I just need to live there - then all will be well!

We've had a number of Nov & Dec trips to WDW and DL. After the last one, DH has asked that we try and avoid the holidays. I know not every week is jam packed, but it's hard to avoid it when we're juggling school and kid activity schedules. I actually really like going in the summer and was planning on popping in for a day (as a surprise) this summer, but we'll see. If I do any of the princess runs in 2021, I may do what I said I wouldn't do (bad mom!) and pull them for a few days so they can experience it too. That being said, this may be the only way for me to see the holiday decorations for a while.

I hear ya- we felt the same. We did Universal in August - and boy was it hot! At least we experienced it - and realized that Universal was doable cause we tended to leave the park in the afternoon. That would be unheard of for Disney - we stay to the end! So going in the fall/ winter works better for us. I am a "bad mom" and pull my kids out, but I'm sure its going to change once they get to high school. At the moment, my husband as his work place cant take time off during the holidays - he works on thanksgiving, xmas, new years etc. Summer he gets 14 days total to spread over the 3 months.. so family time has to be during school time. The kids take it well and know they have to catch up and study at the airport/ flights/ by the pool etc. So its all good, its just how it is.

Meanwhile- god I&^*&^%$&^%#^%$ will these discounts ever appear already?!

Quick question to anyone who has online availability, when you click on the the Disney main page can you click on special offers, I no longer have a link on the page? Just wondering if it’s just me or a site issue.

It loaded for me (10:54am EST)

On one hand, I'm really eager for them to drop...on the other hand, I LOVE these parts of the planning process. It helps the time pass from phase to phase. I mean, I just added on park tickets to my reservation, but I'm not mentally ready to get into FP planning...so playing the "what if" game for potential discounts is my thing to do during this time...well, aside from run training and costume planning. :D
I agree, this is the only thing I have going for any of my trips I have booked right now. Today is my 60 days until my 60 day mark, I have an AP so no tickets to get, and my other two trips aren't even getting near to my ADR booking time yet. So this is pretty much all I have to keep my excited right now lol. Of course, when they do drop and I *hopefully* switch to my desired location then I can really start dreaming and making more detailed plans based on location.

I'm in Houston, so our summers are pretty similar to what you find in Orlando. Sometimes a little hotter...sometimes a little colder, but lots of heat and humidity. As miserable as it is, I even run/train outdoors in it. So, we handle the summer heat pretty well. Our attendance laws are pretty strict here, so I get nervous about pulling them out for anything. I just don't want to wind up in court, yet I've seen so many others do it without issue. A lot of districts have eased up since things changed 9 or so years ago, but it's still one extra headache I really don't need. We'll see.

I agree. I still keep playing with numbers and keep debating if 20% is enough to sway me to upgrade resorts.

I'm not even that excited about FPs. I'm sure I will come the time, but for now, not so much. I think outside of this, waiting to hear on the space restaurant is the only other thing that has me really excited. I may even keep what I've got booked, because I'd really like to see how Skyliner access impacts a stay.

Yeah, I've heard of horror stories. We're fortunate that here they review the kids' grades in addition to attendance. If my kids' grades were suffering, then this it would be out of the question. Fortunately, they're not only staying on top of their school work, they're in the AP classes. Its just hard when we have no family here so getting away for a trip is the only way to get time off and we dont have people to hand the kids off to.

UGH...every morning at 3am (we live on the west coast) I check my email, facebook...anywhere I think someone will post that discounts were released. We have a travel agent on the east coast that will jump to get us the discount, but I am anxious. PLEASE DISNEY RELEASE THE DISCOUNT :flower1:

I don't really get excited about FP, I do like planning though and right now is still a bit too far out for planning (and part of planning which parks I go to when is really dependent on what resort I stay in). I just love planning the whole thing, and this is a solo trip so I can do whatever I want, I'm just stuck in the realm of nothing to do at the moment.

Yeah...maybe that's why I'm not as into these aspects this time. It's different when I'm planning for the kids, but my friend isn't into the more thrilling attractions and I've got three of my five park days where I'm going to be solo, so it's really just all about what I want...and I may want to take a million and one pictures of details and not be as focused on riding as much as I possibly can in a 3-hour window.

I’m on the west coast too. I’ve been setting my alarm the last 2 days for 3:50am. I don’t even get out of bed. Went back to sleep as soon as I saw people posting that they had called and were told no discount. Tomorrow is day 3 and hopefully third times the charm. I’m getting tired waking up so early.

My friend is a TA and she's been getting up all week too. I feel so bad for her. Let's hope tomorrow is the day!
