7:05 - left room at Yacht Club
Boat was just pulling in so we took that option
7:23 - at security
7:33 - through turnstiles - no finger scan today
Found a seat at a table behind Anaheim produce
7:59:55 - opened my app - no red light - hit “my status” - no luck. Closed app all the way, boarding group was red - selected DH and I - “something went wrong” message - freaking out time - DS texts me from home and tells me he got us BG 51. Whew!
This is my third time riding (first two were in December) and I’ve been practicing from home for a full month with great success. Have always been able to select us at least 4 times before back up groups. So it was very frustrating today to have my app not do what it’s been doing at home.
Thank goodness for help back in Ohio!
Wait, what? How is it letting people into a boarding group from home?

I wonder how many people practice from home. I guess mainly limited to people on forums like this. If it is a lot it would be slowing it down for people in the parks and making it more likely they will have issues. Suppose everyone in the park is in the same boat but just makes it a bit more likely some will struggle to get on as the servers struggle with the additional load of the people just practicing. Obviously still the same amount of groups to distribute just makes it a bit more random.

Probably very very few in the grand scheme of things and I highly doubt it’s having any impact at all.

It's a drop in the bucket, and their servers seem to be very robust, thousands of people are able to get through and get a boarding group in that first minute.

Thank you everyone for your help on this page! I practiced quite a bit and have kept up with the boards. My story from last Thursday:

1. Grabbed a taxi from the Poly to not have to worry about the crowded bus, best $25 spent IMO. They drop you off right at the front of the park and don't have to wait in the Uber line.
2. Tapped in well before 8 and got in the TOT mass of people.
3. Had two phones going plus my husbands, all iPhones. One Wifi and the others on Verizon.
4. Hear the announcement and start clicking back and forth. Start hearing cheers, nothing is showing on any phone.
5. Finally get connected on the Wifi phone and get boarding group 95. Ugh! Based on The prior day the ride didn't get past the 60's. Explain the process to my disgruntled husband and head to TOT.
6. It was a smooth day for the ride. We got called at around 5:20 and had dinner reservations at 6PM. Happened to run across a CM and asked her nicely if it was enough time to make the reservation from where we were at. She thought for a minute and then sprinkled us with some pixie dust. She escorted us to the front of the line and got us right on the ride. An amazing experience!

This morning I had the app open and waited until the clock on my iPhone changed to 8:00, and hit find out more. This time, when I got the next page join boarding group was initially still grayed out, which wasn’t terribly unusual based on prior times. However, what was different than before was that it started grey and as I went to click my status as usual I saw the button turn from grey to red without me doing anything. It seemed to auto refresh, on any prior try I always clicked my status and was able to join a BG from there. I’m not sure that it matters or is even unusual, but it was different for me than any other times of practice or for the real thing.

my weird story from this morning practice. Opened app at 7:58 and started a fake FP to pull up my party. Force closed the app. At 7:59:55 reopened (so i know it was after 8:00:00 when it launched). Clicked into find out more and join boarding group was red. Everything went smoothly. Weird part was if it tried the the my status method that button never went red no matter how much i refreshed (after my initial success). Went back to the find out more screen and button was still red and worked fine. Back to my status, button still greyed out. At exactly 8:01:00 the backup message appeared and at that point the my status screen was red.

Seems like a lot of people had trouble getting the red button to open today. I also had trouble when I opened my app at 7:59:56. No red button, and I was toggling back and forth between screens. I finally restarted the app, and the red button showed up - seems to be a similar experience with a lot of people. Maybe the new strategy should be to wait until 8 before opening the app?

I tried to find the answer to my question but couldn’t find one. Why are the boarding groups running out so fast these days? I was there during the Christmas break (super busy time of year) and it was, at the worst, several minutes before they went to backup groups. Less than a minute is crazy! What am I missing?

well, they have reduced the number of primary BGs so I think that is the biggest factor as why those are going so fast. That and just more and more people know the process and the tips and tricks to get one so more people are more efficient. Also, just seems more crowded the past few days so I think that is why all BGs (including back-up ones) are going so fast

i agree, that it does seem really fast for even the back-up ones to be out

I have the same question. Am I reading the chart wrong but BG's are all out in a minute. How is that even possible. No wonder people are freaking out about their app not working.

Also, maybe fewer people willing to get to the park for a 6:00am open - 8:00 am is easier for more people. . .

People are practicing and preparing for boarding groups. 61 boarding groups going within a minute is anticipated to represent around 6,100 people already in the park and being online securing initial Boarding Groups. The remainder of the people represent thousands more who secure backup boarding groups.

Basically, RoR is popular and people are doing what they need to to secure a BG. I personally can't see this changing to FP anytime soon as I can only imagine what kind of demand that would put of their servers each day when anyone who wants to can try to get a FP for a future date.

I think for now, BGs are their best option and hopefully here to stay for a while. I'll take this over waiting in line for hours for FoP, any day!

But, with MMRR opening on March 4th, where do you think a majority of the guests will line up ready to attempt a RotR BG? I know RotR is not ready for FP (or I believe that), but I don't know how it cannot go FP before MMRR opens?

Why? MMRR will help disperse RD crowds even more between that, SDD, and MFSR. But I don't see a connection between that opening and Rise needing FP.

I think FP for RotR is all about the reliability - or lack there of - of the technology. Until it is more reliable they need this "flexible FP" type concept with the BGs

One thing, once MMRR opens it will have FP and MFSR will also have FP (along with SDD as the tier 1) so that should spread crowds a bit as those that got FPs for one of those rides won't be in standby for that one at least. So you will have all the people there in the morning to get RotR BGs and then in the standby line for one of the tier 1s they didn't get (e.g., those that got MMRR will be in the MFSR line)
