Friends, what is the best strategy for reduced (free) WDW tickets? Is it still a card like Cap One and purchase through Undercover Tourist to erase? We are doing Food and Wine in September so I need to get on the ball, planning for the tickets.

DH could get the Barclays Arrival+ but I can't.

The price on hoppers went up today in addition to the passes.
You could get the CIP use the $800 as a statement credit, well $705 after you pay the fee. Or any of the other Ink products. If you get the CIU you can cash out the $500 from the $3k spend.

Off topic but Disney related. The twins turn 5 at the end of April, and lately every day they ask how many days until their birthday. Found out that yesterday DD was handing out pieces of paper to the other parents at preschool pickup. Apparently she told them they were “invitations” to her party. At WDW.

Gonna need a LOT more points to take her whole preschool class to WDW 😂
This was DS's invitation to his birthday party last year. There were a few kids who thought the party was going to be in WDW and were a little disappointed to find out it wasn't!

Yes, that is true, thank you. I'm so very close to being able to get Chase cards again. I would go for the CIP in this instance. Hopefully DH can get one as well.

I just got approved for my first CIP. I think I'm going to get the Ink cash business card next and then hopefully another CIP in the Fall. By the end of the year, I should be back in pop-up hell with Amex. I can't put spend on my Amex cards and meet MSR with Chase. I also plan on canceling my Gold and my Hilton Biz when the AF posts. They are most likely going to befriend me.

No Arrival Plus out right now 😫

We used to charge to our MB and then go by the front desk every couple days to pay the balance with a GC. But between the long walks to the front for some resorts and the really long lines for front desk, I’ve gotten to where I just use a GC to pay in the parks. And yes, the snack carts do take GCs.

Anyone remember years ago (like 2012 and before) when they would let you ‘load’ a GC to your account at the resort and just work off that? That was really so nice!
Last visit at WDW, I had consolidated a bunch of cards to one, giving it a balance of $1000 but then not needing it (it was originally for our cruise) Used that card at the parks (and didn’t let it out of my sight). One of the guys on the Boardwalk handed me my card and said, “Your balance is on the bottom...wait, you have how much on there?!?” Yes after buying my pretzel I had $800+ left. I will not be transferring that much to one card again.

Hi. Thanks for all the helpful information in this thread. I've learned so much just reading little bits of it.

Hi and welcome to the thread. There’s nothing wrong with taking it all in, in smaller doses, as there is a lot to absorb and the rabbit hole goes deep. However, a word of caution that the hobby isn’t something I’d advise getting into if you’ve only got the Cliff Notes version worth of info. Plenty of people here started with taking baby steps but most knew the road they were taking and why. Others have waded in and have served as cautionary tales of what not to do. Feel free to ask questions and joining the DISchurner Reddit group is a great way to get more information and say thank you to those who help out.

Ok I’m out of patience. Applied for CIP last Saturday and have been at 30 days since then. I never get approved on the weekend but always on Monday, usually am approved when I wake up that morning. But now it’s Tuesday night. :scared:

Still likely to be approved right?

Also following up on @calypso726 post - we’ve had a lot of new folks recently (yay!) so let me just say-

I REALLY recommend reading the wiki over at r/churning. You do NOT need a reddit account to do this. Yes, the sub itself is intimidating and full of bald headed scallywags*, but that wiki has a lot of great info. Also consider reading the daily question thread, the weekly what card thread, and occasionally other top level threads (the discussion thread can be hit or miss for good info). Read read read. When I started last May I was on and off bedrest a lot while pregnant and I spent like 2 hours a day reading. And then when you find a question- ask us!! BEFORE you make a move! So many people here have GREAT insight.

The sub also has an FAQ and some other stickies. https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/wiki/index?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Wow, I am really behind. I didn't realize one could not just add a gift card to the room account at check-in any longer.

The longest I’ve seen for approval without recon is just under 3 weeks so I would not be scared yet :)

Hi. Thanks for all the helpful information in this thread. I've learned so much just reading little bits of it.
I would follow Calypso's advice. I'm relatively new to this. After years of budgeting and paying for trips I stumbled onto this. I'm happy with any free hotel reservations and free travel I can get, but I'm not dependent on it to travel. My advice would be to take it slow and avoid any loopholes that may backfire on you. There's been a lot of shutdowns and clawbacks since I started following this.

Personally I think the banks are pretty generous giving out the SUB and points. Sometimes I'm a little befuddled when the churners get angry when they get slapped for taking advantage of them. I'm not against taking advantage of them, but know what to expect.

It's a fun thread to read. I like seeing other people's plans and their different attitudes toward the future. I've had so many family members and co-workers die unexpectedly in their 40's and 50's that enjoying life and living in the moment has always been my priority. I may regret that if I live to 90.

I applied on Saturday, Feb 1 and got approved on Friday, Feb 7. I had a two-week message. I hope that helps.

I tried that on my recent trip (later in the evening after all the parks had closed and such) but they only had 2 people working the desk and I stood there for 30 minutes. I was sooooo frustrated since what I wanted to do should have only taken like 3 minuets. One woman in front of me was trying to coordinate picking up some packages and the other guy was checking in and had a million questions about RotR BGs... and the cast member was giving them so much wrong information. I just bit my tongue because I was ready to flip out, lol!

This is the second straight trip where I had that experience (it seems they are really cutting down on staffing at the desks) so I'm all in on paying as I go now, lol! I'm glad your experience has been different though :D I miss the days when there were a bunch of CMs at the desk waiting to greet you at all times of day!

EDIT: I wonder if there's a difference here at the convention resorts (since my experiences are at YC and CR) where more "business type" people are checking in later in the evenings and aren't skipping the desk vs. other resorts where there's more people doing online check-in. Food for thought...
Oh wow. I've done this several trips and never had to wait more than a few minutes. Only a handful of times when I didnt feel like heading there in the evening, DH just went to take care of it during our breakfast at the resort. Not sure about the convention resort theory, as we've had success doing this twice at CSR and there were lots of business folks there on both trips. Hmmm.

I actually had this happen on a trip when we were staying at the Swan last year. I always max out a GC to bring for spending and that trip I obviously couldn't use my band to charge so I used the GC instead. Multiple CMs commented (albeit quietly) and/or gave me shocked eyes when they circled my balance. This happened at stores in MK and at booths at Epcot for F&W. Made me a bit uncomfortable.

I will soon be earning a Southwest Companion Pass - more details HERE for those who want ALL of the juicy details 😉

Nice! New single card offer would have saved you some phone time: https://viewfromthewing.com/wow-new...st-companion-pass-and-125000-points-to-spend/
