Well I was alive when that song came out, but wouldn’t have been conscious of it as I was 2. I can see how hurricane news for those inland would be annoying. But a virus, in our globalized society, is a little different than a hurricane. It’s not going to fizzle out after so many miles inland. But, I also can only take so much before I have to turn it off. But that is to keep sane and not because I find it to be overblown.

I used to use the news for background noise when I read, I can't do that now and have cut way back on how much I do watch.

Now hgtv isn't helping as they barely have house hunters on any more which was another go to. At least I have baseball reruns. And yes I could read without but I often have to have something so I'm not stuck listening to what my mom watches which is often hart to hart, murder she wrote, perry mason and the simpsons. Now I'm good with the last 3 but not all the time. And omg if hth isn't the most ridiculous thing.

Just read that Disney will furlough a lot of employees starting 4/19, Disney going to continue to paying for their medical insurance....they will be able to collect state unemployment and the additional $600
The new unemployment benefits seem like a real incentive for company’s to lay off. At least they won’t feel bad about it when their employees are making more on unemployment. I wonder what the reopening process is going to look like at WDW.

My husbands been working from home... it’s something I’ve done for years 4/5 days......very interesting listening to his video conference calls. The company he works for had to furlough 20% of the employees...the rest took a pay cut anywhere from 10-25%...most furloughed will make more on unemployment....and the company is continuing to pay for their medical....they hope to rehire in60 days ...his company has over 500 employees ....
my sons company is under 500 employees....they aren’t furloughing anyone and applying for the small business loan

Dd and I were supposed to be boarding our flight from Toronto to Male via Delhi in a few hours for our stay at the WA Maldives. I am not feeling any disappointment; rather I am grateful that we cancelled the trip a few weeks ago and we are not worrying about all the "what ifs" that would have been plaguing us. Also grateful that we are both healthy and our self-isolation has kept us safe. If it is meant to be, it will happen next year or the year after or the year after.

Stay safe and healthy .

My MIL is in a nursing home and we haven't been able to see her for at least 4 weeks. So what I don't understand is if nursing homes were on lockdown much earlier than everyone else, how come people there are still getting the virus?
The nursing home my MIL is in just started the lockdown in their rooms on 3/24...before that we couldn’t see her....
I think they are getting the virus from employees who have the virus but don’t know it

I think the one in my area that has two thirds of the residents testing positive started with one resident coming back from a trip to Florida. Then it just spread. The first reported case was 3/17. Now I think they are around 100:(

Agree that it's most likely from an employee that doesn't know. Plus with the 10 to 14 days it can take to show symptoms depending on when lockdowns started it could've been anyone. Then add in these employees could be going home to others still going out to work/shop etc and if they aren't able to use the right ppe etc an employee could still bring it in after a lockdown. A temp check only works once someone actually has a fever.

The return to work on this is going to be a mess. Not just for Disney. A lot of people are going to be looking at a pay cut to go back to work and asking employers to leave them laid off as long as that extra $600 is there.

I believe that bad new sells-you're likely too young to remember Don Henley's song Dirty Laundry but bad news sells better than good news. I limit my reading to professional journals and discussing this with my peers and colleagues. That said, whatever happens in my small town (with only 1 death) is not interesting to the US as a whole. So many communities within a region, state and of course the country are affected differently so for some of us we don't relate to the news on the West Coast or NYC...just as people on the cruise boards are annoyed, more than anything, with our perpetual hurricane news in the late summer/early fall.
Yes, very appropriate song.
Bubble headed bleached blonde that comes on at 5, she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye, it's interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry..
Kick em when they're up, kick em when they're down...

I’m currently waiting for my first unemployment payment ☹️ and in AZ the current update from the DES is that, yes we’re eligible for the additional $600/wk, however they can’t pay us that additional money until the federal government releases the money to the state. Who knows how long that will take? I’m skeptical it will be anytime soon, but hopefully I’m wrong.

Probably from employees...esp those who have jobs in other facilities. Everything we have learned about infection control and safety has gone out the window with the lack of enough PPE.

I am PRN and not getting any hours right now. I don't care, tbh, but a lot of the other nurses on my unit who actually depend on the money are hurting. We can't have elective inductions scheduled so it is really slow right now, and multiple nurses as called off every shift. The units we are approved to float to are really slow as well, since they are intertwined in the same specialty.
