Issue with wearing masks...

Here's what the WHO says:

I think WHO has proven themselves to be unworthy of our attention in this particular case. Sorry, I for one don't want to hear from WHO until the explain their actions in regards to not letting the world know what was going on in a timely manner.

After trying for years to walk the middle line in politics - no stickers on cars, no front yard signs, no contributions over $200 - suddenly the coronavirus seems to have differentiated Americans on their vote intentions next November. In my area, wearing a mask in public is seen as identifying with fear-mongering liberals that are keen on tanking the economy to deny Trump a second mandate; conversely, not wearing a mask is seen as promoting the opening of the society, launch of the economy and unwillingness to change our way of life to deal with the perceived low risk put by the virus. This does not make any sense - at the White House almost everyone needs to wear masks, but the WH is far away from my midwestern town.

This is why I think authorities, be they government or corporate, need to establish clear guidelines whether or not masks are required, without too much voluntary choices. Americans are already divided, we don't need another visible symbol on where we stand politically. If masks are mandatory in a venue, then those who attend should wear masks. If masks are not required, then people should skip them and be ready to live with the consequences.

I too have followed the same lines as you in your first sentence.

Maybe in your area of the country this is how people are viewed but I certainly wouldn't view a person this way based on the wearing of a mask. I wear a mask when I go into a store or I'm not allowed in, its as simple as that. As soon as I'm out that mask is off my face so I can breath again. I can assure you I'm not a liberal and it would seem to be a great leap to assume someone was based on that. Crazy....but go figure, people can be crazy...

I just read an article about the Disney Food Blog heading to Universal since City Walk opened up. The author of the article said how hard it was to breathe with the mask on while walking around and was breathing very hard most of the time. Rainy season has started, so humidity is very high now as are the temperatures. Something is going to have to give with the mask wearing or the theme parks are going to need a lot more ambulances and EMTs to pick up the fallen.

It's completely foolish not to have mask requirements until this is all well behind us.

If someone is so bent out of shape they will sell DVC over it then personally I think that is positive.

Dealing with the same issue of increased visitors in our area as tourism is starting to increase. There was even an idiot who went in the wrong way entering Walmart without a mask and then just cut under the dividers just zero respect for their fellow humans.

Yet watched video blogs who didn't have issues although obviously said it was more comfortable not having a mask.

Plenty of time for people to still cancel trips if they feel a mask will be a big negative on their trip.

Oh no!!!!! Indeed you must be kidding... someone actually went the wrong way down the aisle?? The Walmart violator should be sentenced to 25 years in the electric chair.

No where we are at they have a whole queue system for entering the store. The person acts like they are more important than the rest of the world, bypass the system there to separate the exit and entrance then proceeds to just cut in front.

It is just an ****** move because what is the low paid walmart employee at the door going to do? More than likely nothing.

So yes I am not kidding it is completely ridiculous and your response just further shows me how selfish some in the US are because yes you should also NOT be walking down the aisles the wrong way its not like its new to have one way aisles at this point.

Here the Walmart entrances are cut to one. It makes zero sense to funnel everyone, in & out, through the same door.
But that’s beside the point.
No way am I going to pay attention to some silly sign on the market floor. I’m better off breezing by you quickly rather than attempting to stay six feet behind you while you’re stopped picking out your spaghetti-o’s. Most just blow by you on the side. What’s the difference? And what if I miss my selection that is four feet behind me? Can I walk back or do I need to circle all the way around?

Folks complaining about walking the wrong way down the aisle in Walmart. Oh my lord.

Masks protect against bacteria NOT virus so there really is no point to wearing them. It has nothing to do with respect of others. It has to do with truth. People that wear masks tend to ignore the social distancing which is the more important "rule" to follow. They also touch their face a ton more which puts them at a bigger chance of catching the virus.

I live in IL and we do NOT wear them everywhere. You should not be wearing them outside in open spaces or while exercising. I do wear one in the grocery store because they require them (although they don't seem to enforce it so I might skip it next time)

Once the temperature hits 77 degrees (a study that came out on Sunday) the virus dies very easily. Florida is above that temperature a great deal of the year.

I will still be coming in September if the rule is still there because we would loose a lot of our points if we don't. Also we've already had a lot of vacations canceled due to this virus. It's safer for us to be in FL than in IL due to the higher temperatures. We will wear a mask if required but will also be taking it off when we need to breathe and for pictures and definitely won't be wearing it to the pool (so not safe!).

The MOST important thing to do to prevent getting this virus is WASH YOUR HANDS!
I live in the Chicago suburbs, almost everyone in my suburb IS wearing a mask. I do whenever I have to go to the store and also wear disposable gloves. It is necessary and does help. Its simple, if you or your family don't want to wear mask, then just don't go to Disney until its safer. Simple!

Man, imagine if people did stuff like that driving on the higway every day?

I was in a store yesterday morning and the man in front of me literally raised his mask, turned and sneezed multiple times (which happened to land on the coffee products). Then he lowered his face mask again and went back to shopping. I do not think he had any understanding what he did was wrong. He didn't act guilty after he did it. I think there are a lot of people that just don't get it. It also made me wonder how many people might do that spontaneously as a sneeze comes on so quick.
Needless to say, I turned around, went the wrong way and told an employee that was stocking at the end of the aisle what just took place. She looked up, shook her head and went back to stocking the shelf.

That calls for a summary execution from the Walmart police!

I feel like a real renegade now when I don't follow the aisle floor markings at Walmart.

I can't see why anyone would sell their contracts because of masks.

This is real simple folks.....If Disney wants to put in a rule about wearing masks on their private property.... then don't go if you don't want to follow their rules.

There's nothing essential about Disney......stay home in your ac.

If Disney wants to put in a rule about wearing masks, and the DVC owners doesn’t want to deal with masks, then why should they hang onto their contracts?

Let’s assume for just two minutes that masks are the “new normal” (God! I hate that phrase!) How many people will still say no, not me, never? I know of a lot that just won’t go. In fact, I’ve even pondered paring down the number of points that we have because there’s no way that my husband is going to enjoy a vacation in the Florida heat if he has to cover his nose and mouth the entire time. Disney just won’t be a happening thing for him, and by extension it won’t happen for me, either. So why hold onto DVC?

I’m not going to sell just yet. But if masks become a permanent requirement, I will.

I'm recovered and already had COVID months ago. Why on earth should I have to wear a mask? I do it in the grocery store or whatever for other people, but I ALREADY HAD IT PEOPLE. I'm not going to get you sick.

In addition to not having medical proof that having COVID19 gives you immunity going forward, how would Disney or any other business be able to grant exemptions to certain people? They can't ask for proof of your health status and I could see this as a new variation of the abuse of the disability access GAC system. People who didn't want to wear masks would only have to say they were immune. That is not something that we want at this stage of the pandemic.

Why do the pro mask folks feel the need to say "stay home?" That's pretty much what the anti mask folks are saying..."sure, we plan to stay away until a better experience is available". I don't understand the snooty "stay home" retort.

I feel the same way. I'm not selling now and hoping this is just a temporary measure that will go away before long. If it's going to last for years then our contract will be on the market. And I'm not sure there is a phrase I hate more than "new normal"!

I have to take exception to this comment about how selfish some in US are because we walked the wrong way in a store aisle.?.?.?

A week ago DH & I went to the local Walmart to get birthday cards, had to go there because the governor in our state has us pretty much completely locked down. While we were there I was going up and down the aisles looking for elastic so I could make more masks. My husband pointed out to me that I was going the wrong way, I asked him what he was talking about. He pointed to the small sign on the floor with a directional arrow. I totally didn't see the floor sign, for some reason the mask seems to mess with my vision, not sure why but it does. Once I was made aware of my error I corrected my direction now going in correct direction. Sorry Walmart and other shoppers for my error.

I have to say this was the one and only time I had been to Walmart since this whole thing started. The only other store I go to is the grocery store and the store I go to doesn't have one way signs at each aisle. So to assume that these directional arrows isn't something new is an incorrect assumption on your part. Here in NJ it is new and just because a person may have made a mistake by going in the wrong direction does not make them selfish.

Think about selling your contract. Virus experts have been warning about this sort of thing for a long time, and they've been warning that this will become a regular 21st century occurrence. It already has - Marburg, Ebola, SARS, MERS.....we've seen a ton of new viruses in the past 50 years - fortunately for those of us in the U.S., the impact of these has been very small. But it was only a matter of time before something hit that transmitted easily and was deadly. And its only a matter of time before more of these hit.

There are a number of reasons for this - globalization and air travel - which allows a virus to get from a remote community into the world. Humanity moving into new habitats, where viruses exist that haven't had the opportunity to jump to humans. Global warming, which is thawing out viruses in the tundra. And that is without getting into the conspiracy side of things where governments make viruses in labs and send them out (they don't need to - smallpox and anthrax are sitting there waiting for them to weaponize - well, we've already weaponized anthrax - we did that in WWII.)

But humanity will adapt to this, as it adapts to everything else.

As to Disney, one of the things so many people love about Disney is how well it takes care of its customers - all of its customers. Have celiac - no problem. Wheelchair - you'll be able to do most things. Kid who isn't neurotypical - here are some adaptations....... For someone going to Disney recovering from cancer, or taking a grandparent on a trip, or who is obese or has high blood pressure - you wearing a mask can be the difference between life and death - because for me....Covid is a low risk thing - I'm still fairly young (in my 50s), my weight is normal, I'm not diabetic, and my heart is good....for at least the next few years, I'm more likely to die in a car crash. But I know plenty of people who aren't in my shoes. And yeah, some of them will just avoid public places for the next few years....but some of them won't. And I watched my brother in law die the same way Covid kills - it was horrifying. I wouldn't wish that on anyone - and am more than willing to wear a mask to keep that from happening to someone else.

There is a difference between making an error during the period of adapting to new norms, and rejecting those norms. One is a mistake - there isn't anything selfish about an unintentional mistake - an accident. The other IS selfish. And from time to time, you might decide that there isn't anyone near the end of the aisle right now, and what you want is on this end, and you can dart in and get it......and no big deal - you aren't getting close to anyone. But if the store is crowded and the store is trying to keep traffic moving in such a way so as to limit the risk of infection, yeah, not following the signs on purpose is selfish. Your prioritizing your ability to quickly get to the Cheerios over someone else's health. And since a lot of people are making decisions on where to shop based off of the stores adapting - i.e. I know people who only shop at places where there are one way aisles and masks are required because they are in compromised health and high risk - your purposeful actions are undermining their choice.
