Which points did you use to book JAL? I would love to have first for our return trip from the Maldives if I can make it work somehow :)!

I used 280k AA miles to book, plus ~$120 in taxes. It actually worked out well because JAL has added a new route from DFW (for the Olympics travel... oops) and so I was finding a lot more JAL availability that way. So we're going through DFW on the way to Japan in business class, and then we'll come home through Chicago in first class.

Chase Sapphire Reserve adds some "limited time perks" including a grocery statement credit 1.5x cash-out:

New limited-time perks:
  • Pay Yourself Back, with each point worth 1.5 cents towards a statement credit used to offset purchases at grocery stores, home improvement stores and dining establishments from May 31 through Sept. 30.
  • Expansion of $300 annual credit, with remaining balance automatically applied to purchases at grocery stores and gas stations from June 1 through the end of the year.
  • Renewal annual fee lowered to $450 after July 1 through 2020, replacing the current $100 statement credit.

Hate the source but it's all I got right now:
https://thepointsguy.com/news/chase-sapphire-covid-perks/
The statement credit option is nice BUT it's not a true cash-out since I can't put the cash in my account and then use those expenses to hit an MSR, (so it lessens the benefit a tad vs. a true cash-out).

$300 Travel credit turning into a grocery credit is pretty awesome I guess!

Did anybody catch when the SW search screen went live?

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it was 9:06am. Found it :)

just got it.... maybe woohoo? we will see what the fall/winter brings...

OK, I'm all booked! Tickets between Christmas and New Years for Puerto Rico and a ticket home from WDW for Halloween weekend. Now I just need this virus to calm down so I can fly again!!

We are heading to Vero in a couple of weeks! I just happened to have 4 nights booked starting the day they open. It is going to be our first ever LONG road trip but it will be fun. We'll take all our own beach stuff and take food to eat in the 1 BR. I was able to add a 5th night this morning!

I got Christmas tickets. No non-stops to Tampa and it was 80,000 rr points for two tickets round trip. But going price is about $600/ticket and I still have my companion pass.
I booked Thanksgiving trip, hopefully the loophole will stick around because I wasn't able to get a flight on the day I wanted - they sold out before I could get in.

I'll wait until we have solid plans to book Christmas, we are flying to Phoenix so I don't think those will be too expensive.

I’ve been at a children’s hospital for over 24 hours now. Elliott had a fever yesterday morning so we took him to the ER next to our house. They did a horrible job and couldn’t even get his iv in after 20 minutes so we left and drove to Orlando to the children’s hospital instead since they’re specialized in pediatrics. His fever was slightly higher at 101 by the time we got there (an hour drive). They took his blood samples and collected urine. They also swabbed him for Covid which was horrendous for me to watch. He screamed so bad and there was nothing I could do to help him.

Dh was not allowed into the hospital at all because they have a one parent rule. So I’ve been here by myself the entire time and he’s at home worried sick. They told us yesterday that Elliott was doing much better and likely would go home today at 2 pm. They got his culture back today and results from his kidney ultrasound. One of his kidneys is slightly enlarged from reflux with the urine. The urine culture came back and he has a rare type of bacteria that requires more testing to see what antibiotic he needs so instead of going home today I might not be going home with him until tomorrow or possibly even later. If they can’t find an antibiotic that works against the bacteria then he will stay longer, get a more permanent iv in his arm, and a nurse will have to come to our house to give antibiotics that way every 6-8 hours.

This has been a horrible couple of days and I know Dh is feeling worried stuck at home. I’m crossing my fingers they find an antibiotic so we can go home tonight but it isn’t looking good. So it had nothing to do with my diet this entire time. It was just something we couldn’t control 😢
I'm sorry to hear all you're having to deal with! Hope they found the right antibiotic to use and Elliott is feeling better soon.

FYI - Southwest extended their schedule this morning for flights through January 4th, 2020.

Here is my usual Historical Southwest Release Dates (for planning purposes) comment:

In an odd move... SW's next release was not announced this morning. Instead you're met with this phrase: "At this time, we do not have a date for our next schedule extension therefore please check back frequently."

This chart could be useful to approximate when your travel time may become available for upcoming releases, however they don't always follow the exact same pattern (as you can see above) They appear to be tightening the inventory a bit this year vs. prior year's releases.

RELEASE TIMES (all times Eastern):
  • the release on 5/28/20 went live at 9:06am.
  • the release on 3/12/20 went live at 9:40am.
  • The release on 12/11/19 went live at 9:10am.

If you want to search back for this post in the future - just search my name and "release". But be advised that I will not go back and update this post if they alter the next release date in the future.

I’m sorry.

I personally ended UR for Disney by starting with Chase, killed AA by starting on the train. I got 2 SW companion passes this year and bought my family WDW APs to coincide with the SW passes.... blame me for the virus. This was strike 3, hopefully I’m done ruining things for y’all.
I think you just need to stay home from now on, no more trip planning for you.

I'm sorry churning has been so crazy, but I hope you were at least able to get some good trips.

Lol no, don't worry, it was me. I was just about to book an onsite WDW trip for 6 people when Chase ended. I booked my ill-fated flights to Japan for this year and then the AA shutdowns started happening. And then I tried to take my first ever international trip, instead of just going to Disney again, and a global pandemic occurred.

We can definitely all blame me. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the discussion about GlobalEntry wait times. I'll take that off the table for the Alaska cruise. It would be nice, but if we do a nonstop flight back in to Kansas City, I can't imagine customs will be that big of a deal. Just whomever is on the plane with us....

Here’s our little guy
Having a sick kid is the worst thing ever! They even gave him one of those tiny hospital gowns that always makes my heart hurt.
Hang in there. Having a baby during pandemic is awful.

In the next month or so I'm going to start saving for a new car. I don't have a goal or a timeline for lots of reasons. I think a high yield savings acct is going to be my best bet so I can add to it each month and have access when I need it.

Is there somewhere I can look for who has them and what they pull from? I'm guessing they'll all be online banks which I'm fine with but I have EVERYTHING frozen so I need to know if they pull from chex or something first.
You'll probably need to contact each bank and ask them.
