Coming from NY. This is horrible

Sorry to hear about your SD. Personally, I think we need to concentrate on our own states and how best we can do to flatten the curve again. If that means implementing quarantines, so be it.
I don’t disagree with you. I’m in NY, have felt good about our response. But Florida is where my heart is, all of my family is there. So my thoughts extend there. My criticism of the response does not come from malice toward the state, I love Florida and I love Floridians.

Is it still only for NY/NJ and CT visitors to Florida? If so, that is absolutely ridiculous.

Yes. Here it is:

Governor DeSantis directed all individuals entering the state of Florida from the New York Tri-State Area (Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York) to isolate or quarantine for a period of 14 days from the time of entry into Florida or the duration of the individual’s presence in Florida, whichever is shorter. This includes persons entering Florida by roadways.

Apparently if you want to visit from hotspot Arizona, then no problem. Sounds very political to me.

Definitely

I understood the reasoning back in March and I understand why NY/NJ and CT are doing it now with some states. Florida still limiting it to only those 3 states makes no sense at all.

So, if I wanted to get my disney fix, I would have to quarantine 14 days IN FLA, and an additional 14 days IN NY ?

Seriously?

That's 28 days of quarantine. That's ridiculous.
That's incorrect. In Florida, you would only be required to isolate for the length of your stay -- up to 14 days.

The new NY requirement is much more restrictive, and I understand from other threads that NY authorities ARE following up on quarantined people and will be issuing fines.

Is Florida or any other state actually checking of people quarantine? Or do they just request/strongly advise it?

It is mandatory, not requested.

If four anonymous posters on the DIS told you nobody checked on them, would that settle the question for you?

If no one is checking, then it is a request to me.

There is a lot of hearsay on this board, so 4 DIS'ers saying one thing is fine to me :)

Cool. To be perfectly honest, I haven't heard of anyone being contacted in Florida. I have heard of follow-ups in NY state.

Not Florida, but this is what we experienced yesterday when flying home to NYC from Jackson, Wyoming with a layover in Utah. Since Utah is on the hotspot list, we assumed we everyone on the plane would need to fill out forms or give information, that didn't happen. We flew into JFK and as we walked off the plane, there were two people (not sure they were TSA) asking if anyone was a resident of Utah. From what we observed, not one person stopped to give any information. Every9one was free to leave with no followup information taken, no proof of residency, etc. I guess everyone on the plane could have just connected in Utah like we did, but it did seem very casual.

1. Most states absolutely are doing much better than Florida.
2. I would absolutely judge as a New Yorker. We had no idea and no notice as to what was going to hit us. Florida had four months.
Don't disagree on FL. But PLEASE stop acting like NY did nothing wrong and is just an innocent victim who had no notice in this. That is simply not true. When other states were shutting down, New Yorkers were encouraged to go out and enjoy life. Newsom became a joke for his "overreaction" which indeed ended up being the right call. (CA has had many missteps since then). Covid positive patients WERE sent back to LTC facilities. While it was going to spread there, NY has to take some responsibility for their numbers there.

Correct - DeSantis is on record having bragged about how they are so much better than NY and made fun of al the experts who warned that what is happening now was going to happen. He is embarrassed about how wrong he was shown to be and retaliated against the NE when they imposed a well deserved quarantine against FL and other states where the data showed there were massive spikes in the curve. FL, however, decided to ignore other states where the outbreak is serious and extend a quarantine against the few states in the country that actually got the virus under control as of now. It's blatantly political and he is playing games with everyone's health.

It's far worse than ridiculous - it's petty and dangerous.

No one said NY did nothing wrong. But there's a huge difference between a week or two at the beginning when figuring out how to shut down, and then deciding on reopening early when the experts warned exactly what the consequences would be.

Yeah, I wouldn’t argue NY was without flaw. There was plenty of hesitation to go around in the US. But on a scale, NY jumped in pretty quick. And Cuomo I felt was pretty straight with us about how serious this was and how much personal sacrifice we were going to have to show in order to help our neighbor. I think that’s a big part of it: the messaging. Most of the NYers I know see it as their duty to roll up their sleeves and do this hard thing. Obviously, not ALL NYers. But that’s the general mood here.

ETA and I’m no particular lover of Cuomo.
