Coming from NY. This is horrible

OR starting 8/1, you can get out of that quarantine IF you and everyone in your traveling party get a COVID-19 test 72 hours before your flight, and you bring printed proof of those negative test results with you to show authorities in Hawaii at the airport when you land.

Speaking of NY, reporters asked the Gov. if he would allow the 72 hr test, OR if they tested right away upon entering NY, he said that there are approximately 12,000 people entering NY every day, from one of the highly infected states. NY does not have the manpower to chase people down, write down if they've had a test, go back and track them down again, according to some paperwork as to when they've been tested, will be get test results back, etc.

Nope, Nope, not happening. Everyone gets the 14-day mandatory quarantine. Period. That, they will do the calls and tracking for.

Of course, all of that is sort of moot right now because in many areas in the mainland US, you can't get test results in less than 3 days and in some areas, you can only get tested if you have symptoms.

Oh, you just reminded me, in some of the NYC run labs, if they use a national, third-party lab to run the tests: Lab Corp, Quest, BioReference, expect a 6 Day wait (or longer) for test results to come back. The federal government put pressure on those national lab companies to make the tests in the highly infected states a priority. So, the COVID tests done by those companies in NY state, are being put on the back burner. CityMD in NYC has warned of the 6 day delay.

IF you want/need a test sooner, 70% of the tests done by the state are done by state owned labs. The turn around time is still about 3-5 days. Those tests can be found here: (Make sure the location you pick doesn't say the tests are being performed by "third party labs."

He’s had two tests. He was very ill in May, had to go to the ER. The $300 test was for private testing, because our county was so low in test availability at the time we had an impossible time getting him a prescription for a test. We paid out of pocket because we were able to, which is a whole other discussion about privilege and the scarcity of testing.

OUCH!!! :headache: How is DH now? I hope he's okay.

My husband had a test done late Monday, it came back (negative thankfully) Wednesday morning. NYC, Manhattan.

OUCH!!! :headache: How is DH now? I hope he's okay.
Yep, he’s good! Had two negative tests. Had a fever for two weeks though and bad chest cough. Doctors advised us to act like he had covid even with negative tests, so he was self quarantined in our home for two weeks. It was incredibly difficult to get medical help at the time, not a criticism of the medical professionals, they were just so overwhelmed. It’s part of my Florida concern. My family is there and I feel like they’re about to go through what we went through. This whole thing is a nightmare. We know several families that were destroyed here in NY, DH’s colleague lost his life. This illness is no joke.

NY/NJ did plenty of things wrong. Hopefully other states learned. it’s difficult to understand until you are in the throes of it.

The magnitude of this virus is far reaching and baffling. That’s what is scary and upsetting.

This isn’t a political issue. It’s a human issue. We’ve let our personal convictions sway our rational understanding. Quite frankly, it’s time to focus on science and ignore the swirling controversy surrounding this situation.

No, FL, made the rule back in March or April when NY was at the apex of being the then epicenter. They just kept the rule in effect and/or extended it. Ironic when FL's rate of infection must be up to 26% or higher. Meanwhile NY's infection rate is roughly 1.3%.

Also NY/NJ/CT isn't doing it in retaliation. We have certain criteria for which states make the quarantine list:

The total current states that are required to quarantine for 14 days when entering NY, NJ, or CT are:

Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

These states have unfortunately a high infection rate of at least: 10 new COVID positive cases per 100,000 people on a 7-day rolling average. OR: at least 10% of the total population is COVID-19 positive on a 7-Day rolling average.

NY & NJ are requiring the 14 day mandatory quarantine regardless of if a COVID-19 test comes back negative.

NJ tried to allow for a test instead of quarantining. But, this past weekend, 12+ people who came from some of of the travel advisory states tested positive in Hoboken. That mini COVID cluster made Gov. Murphy change his mind. He said the infection rate is going up he's worried it will rise further. He now requires the 14 day mandatory quarantine regardless of test results.

The NJ & CT Governors have put a pause on certain parts of Phase 3, due to seeing the upsurges in the rest of the U.S.

The CT does allow: "If a 14-day self-quarantine is not possible, travelers from the impacted states may enter Connecticut if they have had a negative viral test (not an antibody test) for COVID-19 in the 72 hours prior to travel."

My home state of Texas deserves to be on this list. We've done a terrible job of containing this virus.

We're not cocky - we're pissed! We did what the experts and scientists said to do. Other states like Florida did not. What you say it total bull that it was about us getting to see "what worked". We had sound science that we listened to. Florida did not. We didn't have "the benefit" of other states going first. Are you nuts? It's other states "going first" which has put us right back into danger again. Stop telling us in the NY what you want from us. Look at the data - those in the hotspots who ignored all advice have no business telling us anything. You've complete made up irrelevant stuff and things people aren't saying to somehow dismiss those that clearly screwed up.

One hundred million percent this. Well said!!

Well, since Florida is one of the hotspots now keeping the USA from getting close to normal yet again, it deserves at least a little whack, doesn't it? We knew how to keep COVID from spreading. Anyone getting it now is stupid (except first responders and employees forced to work) and also deserves a whack, IMO.

MA shut down pretty quickly, opened up very slowly. We had that initial issue in Boston from a conference, and that caused a lot of problems because it happened so early in the pandemic. Sadly, people in my area here in MA are starting to give up wearing masks and social distancing, so we are seeing a tiny bit of a surge starting. Dimwits.
Well calling people stupid and “ whacking” folks ...really? We have not had to deal with a pandemic before and our numbers have gone up but deaths are not as bad as earlier .Thank heavens our nursing homes have not been the same issue as other states. Our demographics are very diverse and Fl is a mecca for retired folks from the North. The higher numbers are from testing and show the age for positive is younger people. You can Whack all those crazy kids at the beaches on Memorial Day if you want. Or whack those kids in the pools and lakes in other states. Stupid does not have state boundaries.
My last comment...if you don‘t like what is going on in Fl and think we opened too soon ( I think so for schools) ....stay home. If your ONLY reason to come to FL is WDW...follow the rules in place or....stay home and discover other areas of your home state. Y’all stay safe!

If one day you tested 100 people and the next day you tested 100,000 people, you could only claim more positive cases was due to an increase in testing if the percentage of people testing positive remained relatively the same. But Florida’s test positive rate is steadily climbing, its off the charts in some areas. The CDC wants a state to be below 5% before it reopens, I think Florida’s current state average is at 20%, and in south Florida its 33%. Its multiplying at an alarming rate, I believe.

Yay! Glad he's good. :thumbsup2 Some of those tests may still be inaccurate. :headache: I've read, if one gets a positive, it's likely to be correct. But, there are way too many false negatives that should be positives.

Yes, I started getting PTSD when I first started seeing some of the news footage coming out of AZ, FL & TX. It reminds me of what we went through. I have family upstate. I couldn't even share with them how terrified I was, as they'd only worry more. :( I, too, know someone who died right at the beginning of this for us. So, this became real for me very quick. And I know a couple other people who know somebody who've died. :(

Not to make any excuses for the stupidity of these states not requiring masks, but I think part of it is that these places were closed down for so long with so few cases. IMO and its pobabbly a stupid oppinion they should have stayed open a little longer to let a little of the heardin start. Just in case, and also there might not have been such a lack of respect for the virus. Course if that was done North which was underwater might have been worse.

Yes. Here it is:

Governor DeSantis directed all individuals entering the state of Florida from the New York Tri-State Area (Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York) to isolate or quarantine for a period of 14 days from the time of entry into Florida or the duration of the individual’s presence in Florida, whichever is shorter. This includes persons entering Florida by roadways.

Apparently if you want to visit from hotspot Arizona, then no problem. Sounds very political to me.
It's hard not to wonder if some intention behind this ongoing decision was to fuel citizens into questioning whether NY/NJ/CT really brought numbers down and kept them flat, and help feed a perception the tri-state is somehow responsible for our nation's predicament. Confuse, divide, distract?

I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's due to traffic volume or some other outlook. Who knows but the silence is awkward.

Anything is possible (meaning reason behind it) and right now nothing would surprise me. But are there really people who believe that?

I think it might be a tit for tat type situation. The truth is right now, our country as a whole should be discouraging interstate travel. I wish my state would put some restrictions up!

Yep, I’ve felt the same. I’m watching through my fingers, super worried after going through it myself that now it’s happening again elsewhere. April was such a dark month in NY, I won’t ever forget it.

Quite frankly, I’m happy FL quarantined NY/NJ/CT. Hopefully it keeps people out of FL. This situation is serious. Trying to keep vigilant is difficult especially when you don’t know what you are looking for. Unfortunately, numbers will go up In the NE once fall/winter occurs and indoors becomes the norm. Staying local, maintaining social distance, wearing masks, and hand washing will help. Follow the science. And the science keeps changing the more we learn. Observe, listen, and learn.

But are there really people who believe that?
Where the topic has come up since June there's usually rebuttal comments questioning if the tri state really has been decreasing like the numbers show. Even here there's been comments in disbelief that seemed to be genuine.
To some extent is understandable for people living elsewhere unable to witness themselves but seriously, how long could a 20m pop metro area possibly fake declines undetected.

It was a figurative whack, LOL! You keep doing your spin on Florida. It's not looking good for anyone down there, IMO. If it's the younger people getting it, why are the hospitals filling up again? My mom winters down there, others in my family live in the St. Pete's area year round. They can't believe the crap-show down there right now, and how it's been pretty bad all along.. But I agree that stupid does not have state boundaries. We had a bunch of idiot bikers come roaring through town the other night, no masks, and they tried to get service all through town. Only place they were served was an outdoor ice cream stand.

Heardin? North which was underwater might have been worse? What does that mean? Could you clarify please?

I'm with you on all that. Even the unfortunate part about increased NE numbers come fall, hopefully enough has been learned to manage much better than last spring.

It remains hard to reconcile that FL is only quarantining the tri state area when so many other areas are out of control, yet they can come to FL and go anywhere immediately.
