Morning, less than a week til our arrival. Finally! Quick question for those of you that have been on-property since they reopened..
My wife and I typically get up and get a run in before we start our day, usually early (7am) before most folks are out/about. Can anyone confirm if they are requiring masks be worn (or what have people seen) on runners since the reopening - we typically make our way down to HS, back and then around the Lake a few times. Here at home we stick to non-populated areas without masks - I saw on some other threads it's a crap-shoot depending on who you ask but thought I'd check on any recent YC/BC experiences...
Just curious, what, if any guidance folks have seen when it comes to folks running around property during the early hours...
I will start by saying a big YMMV on this one - and it seems like with many topics even this has become a little divisive and I sort of hesitate to even answer, to be honest. I’ve run at BLT/CR, Poly, GF, and YC in trips since reopening, most in the 6-7am hour, some 7am-8am. At BLT over the summer, a recreation manager I asked said masks are not required while running - just to/from said activity. Others have reported asking CMs and getting an opposite response.
I would say most other runners I have seen have not been wearing masks. It has been a pretty large majority, like 85/15 to 95/5, roughly speaking. My last two trips I’ve seen more with gaiters and people pulling them up for a bit as you pass.
I dabbled with masks and gaiters at BLT over the summer since the trail there shares an employee walkway which always seemed pretty busy over shift-change in the AMs, but other than that I’ve personally run mostly sans mask.
My runs around Crescent Lake have pretty much been just like normal times - very, very few people out, mostly other mask-less runners, lots of good mornings and friendly waves as we all criss-cross paths round and round. Remember, these have mostly been 6am-7am’ish so my experiences may not apply to what one may find later morning - or on any given day.
Personally, I’m an early runner to begin with but I’m now making it a point to get out as early as possible just to have less people around, well before people are up/moving around for the parks or breakfast.
Just my take. Hope you enjoy your trip!
