Just need to vent on lack of availability for my Nov trip

What resorts have all lock-offs for a two bedroom? Wouldn't that put younger kids in the 2nd bedroom, with it's own entry door.. at risk?

At OKW all studios and one bedrooms are part of a lock-off, but there are also dedicated 2 bedroom units. There are no dedicated studios or one bedrooms.
I'll defer to others to confirm this. I could be wrong, but I thought I've read that some had only lock-offs?

BWV and Jambo both have only 2BR lockoffs. All others have both dedicated and lockoff 2BR's.

How unusual, if I had little kids, I'd be concerned about using a lock-off. For adults, though, I always try to get a lock-off. Jambo I can understand, since those were originally regular hotel rooms, but BWV was built as a timeshare.

Little kids can't really reach the slider - DVC doesn't have a plethora of chairs in the studio that can be moved over. Bigger kids you trust - or you don't. And little kids are honestly so tired that you put them in bed and they sleep until you wake them up. We did Boardwalk for years and it was never an issue.

I've always wondered why BWV was built without dedicated 2BR's. Must be something about it that DVC didn't like since they didn't do it again until they converted Jambo and then they probably just figured they'd leave the dedicated 2BR's to the Kidani building.

not having dedicated 2 bedrooms is what makes things tough. Studios go quickly and without them, no chance of a 2 bedroom. We stay here almost every trip and in a few weeks we get to go through the fight over the queen bed in the 2nd bedroom. Not having 2 real beds in the studio side becomes an issue. We have to weigh the good and bad, so I go in the king room and let the mom, dad, & teens work it out. Mom & dad usually end up on the living room sofa bed. 4 teens in the studio side.....who will get the only real bed this year?

Booked a 2BR Preferred at our home resort at SSR for the week of 11/6-11/13. Right at 7 months, tried to switch it to another resort - ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER 2BR AVAILABLE. And I mean nothing. Not even other SSR rooms! Waitlisted two resorts (CC and BLT Lake View) and check multiple times a day. Praying for a miracle! My parents were fortunate enough to get their Poly wait list come through for that week...

UGH - the gluttony of points is ruining my chances of staying near MK :(
November is part of the high DVC demand period, so it's always difficult to switch resort. But we're going to see at least of couple of years when it'll be even more difficult to book at 7 months, probably year around. A lot of delayed trips, unused points and people willing to go back to the parks when we're back to (more or less) normal.
It's going to be a few tough years.

Demand isnt going to clear up for years. Its going to be a continuous use whats expiring and bank the rest process. Disney royally jacked up their decisions at the beginning of this which is going to screw up the system for 5 ton10 years minimum.

How so? You can't bank and borrow that much right now and only for so long. I feel by the end of next year everyone would have used all there covid banked points and be back on track.

You can bank 100%. If theres no availability, Im just banking until next year. There is nothing that would stop me from doing that forever. The only points expiring are the ones that had been banked from a previous use year, no different than any other year.

Nothing is forcing the points out of the system and the decision to still extend points while the resorts are open is just adding to the demand crunch.

In order to eliminate points they need to either increase capacity, limit banking, or eat some of the profits when it comes to trades.

Basic math really.

I've already booked a vacation using all my COVID points, my current points and some borrowed points from 2022. Over two years worth of points for a family vacation in a GV and 2 bedroom for 11 people. So I've done my part to return the system to normal. :flower1:

Frustrating, i’m Sure. However, you can’t point to covid as the sole culprit for this. In a perfect world it can be difficult for those of us who own at the more popular resorts to secure rooms at the inn during popular time periods/categories
was really hoping to be able to WOW them with seeking MK from BLT or the lobby of WL during the holidays!
WL is especially lovely at Christmas, the reason we bought there :). So thrilled to have secured it for three different visits this year via those banked points. Even able to flip over to CC for two of them at 7 months via the WL in a studio

Looking the availability calendar for relatively last minute trips this year, notice even SSR is often booked solid 5 or 6 months out during periods in the past I’ve had no issues grabbing a short reservation.

In the past did read many posts here where people stated they didn’t routinely secure at least their home resorts before the 7 month window opened. Going to guess most now book a placeholder

But by doing your part, especially by borrowing, someone else now cannot book and will have to bank, or in some cases lose points.

Not blaming just again showing that its really basic math, there are more points than their are rooms....by a large number and Disney keeps making it worse.

I don't hear or see where 11 month bookings are not possible and that is what it would have to be for a person to be truly blocked from being able to use their points. I suspect there's also more points going to go unused than many might expect so they'll be cleared from the system as well. A system of banking and borrowing is never precise 1 to 1 use so you could say the same thing in the past about people who borrowed out everything - they took rooms from those wanting to book but somehow the system worked thru it. So as long as rooms can be booked at 11 months I think it's working ok and isn't in any terrible shape.

I also am all caught up to where I was pre-covid. In reality the resorts were just shut down for 3 months or so? The rest was then up to people on their willingness to travel so it wasn't all points just sitting around accumulating for a year.

I agree. I wish they did have dedicated 2BR's in the mix at BWV. It would make it a bit easier to book them and the 2 real beds in the 2nd bedroom would be nice. It's the one location IMO that is really going to benefit getting the pull down murphy/sofa combination in the studios to give a better 2nd bed.

I doubt borrowing 19 points is what will throw the system out of whack.

I suspect they thought it would be far more flexible - and frankly, until the points were lowered and the blue card situation began, it wasn't too unbalanced. Now there are a ton of people who really only have enough BWV points for a studio. Remember that when Disney envisioned DVC, they really weren't thinking that most people would book studios.

Get on the waitlist! For the last 5 years I have used the waitlist frequently at other 7 month resorts. I own at BCV and never really considered other resorts till they renovated and took out the fans and the jacuzzis!! After that I book at BCV 11 months out but waitlist for BWV. At least they still have fans and I love to soak every night. Granted this is an unusual year and everyone knows Oct starts the 50th anniversary but people do cancel. I have always gotten the waitlist at some point.

My waitlist just came through for a standard view 2 bedroom at RIV for the weekend before thanksgiving so my 1 bedroom preferred view that I had booked went to someone else. So definitely waitlist and stalk as things are constantly changing.
