Dad was a Marine. Grandfather was Army in WWI. I have too many uncles and cousins in the military to list. One uncle was a medic in the army and served in WWII (On D-Day as well), Korea, and Vietnam. We have family in all branches, including a cousin who was a Navy Seal. We are a very military family.

Dad - Army WWII and Korea, career Army officer
Mom - career Army wife, with all the glamor that entails!
One uncle - Army Air Corps WWII
Another uncle - Navy
Another Uncle - Marines
Me - Army, just 2 years
Two nephews in now - one career Army officer, the other a career Air Force officer, Air Force Academy graduate and currently teaching at the Air Force Academy.

I am sure I’m forgetting someone. My ex husband is also AF and our son will be joining the Army National Guard after taking a year off (he graduates HS this year)

My dad was in the army in WW II. Son-in-law is in navy reserves. Niece is in National Public Health Service (yes it is military, she’s a 2nd lieutenant)

some of my uncles were also in the service. I know one uncle (Irish immigrant) used to talk about getting in trouble for arguing with his CO.

one if my aunts used to talk about living in London during the war and manning anti-aircraft guns on the roofs. She died when I was young so I never got the whole story.

We have ancestors that fought in the Civil War.

But more recently -

My grandfather (my mom‘s dad) served in the Air Force in WW2 & was stationed in the European front.

My other grandfather (my dad’s dad) served in the Army in WW2 & was stationed in the Asian front.

My brother-in-law (husband’s brother) served in the Army National Guard & was in the Gulf in the 1st Gulf War.

My favorite veteran, though, is my Dad - he served in the Army & was in Vietnam... he’s a Vietnam War Vet.

He doesn’t talk much at all about his time in Vietnam, but I will never forgot what he said when when the Gulf War soldiers started coming back - “I hope they don’t treat those boys like we were treated when we came back from Vietnam” which breaks my heart.
