Uhm....Bahamas is now requiring vaccinations for all passengers over 12..

I see that, but for those on the first sailing back who "didn't know" that they had to PCR their kids 5 days before, they got a full refund and a free cruise. I'd call that not fair.

Except that:
1) Was limited to 20-30 people
2) Was on Disney for not communicating to anyone
3) Was likely in many cases from the sounds of it an error in Safe Passage where the parents (vaccinated) were cleared but nothing stated the child need to be tested
4) Not a choice by the passenger but a mix up between passenger consuming the policy and Disney informing the policy

Its not the same as a blanket opt out if you want simply by not getting vaccinated. As of this very moment there is a single cruise where individuals can not be vaccinated in time (9/3) otherwise you could get the J&J, be vaccinated, and cruise. It is a choice and in the case of medical exemptions (we will have to see).

To be clear I am not beating up anyone for not being vaccinated for whatever reason I am stating it would be a flawed policy and if you are trying to avoid PR blowback is not one you would take on. Headline would read CNN "Disney provides 25% discount for not being vaccinated".

But there is some similarity here

1) It could be limited. We don't know how many non-vax adults are booked on the 9/3 sailing. Disney has that data by now. (FYI the free cruise was 20-30 families, not 20-30 people)

2) Disney communicated. We all knew it. 1400 other people knew it. Those 110 or so didn't? I don't fault Disney for that, but I commend them for excellent PR. This situation is almost worse. We are 11 days from the cruise, and no communication

3) Again, yes safe passage was not the greatest, but it clearly said in multiple places you had to test your kids.

4) This is also not a choice by passengers at this point. To be told 11 days before your cruise, now you cant go because you aren't vaccinated (even though we told you it was OK not to be vaccinated earlier). Not their choice.

Look all I'm saying is Disney could be looking at something a bit more involved than "Sorry if you aren't vaccinated, you can cancel" I think they are looking at that, which is one reason why they didn't just come out and say anything yet. If they were going to go the "sucks to be you" route, then we would have heard by now.

Actually you can sail in every instance if you choose to. Unless you are stating the Bahamas are not allowing health based exemption from the vaccination requirement. Seems Carnival at least is still allowing you to request an exemption from vaccination requirements so seems they think there is an exception ability based on medical or other things.

Pretty much the only group not able to choose to be ready to sail would be kids just turning 12.
For the next 5-6 weeks (less with J&J), someone who currently isn’t vaccinated can’t become fully vaccinated. That is the impossible part I was referring to. This also assumes there isn’t an option for medical exemption.

I do also see your point here. I can see them offering it to a few select sailings that are too close, but not for the next 30-60 days. It will be flawed, but they have to select the lesser of multiple evils at this point. There is no policy here that has no flaws.

Disney would spin it as "compensating people" who are inconvenienced. We didn't see headlines about Disney provides free cruise to people who are too dumb to read and get their kids tested.

I am on the Dream now and about to start a back to back and our serving team was discussing this and you are absolutely right that this will effect Castaway Cay too! They were saying DCL had not discussed the next steps with them so who knows… maybe non vaccinated will have to stay onboard?? Of course this will also effect every other cruise line that used a Bahamian island as their private island m, so at least DCL will not be in this alone…

Leaving the unvax on board is not permitted with the Bahamian regulation. You cannot port with unvaccinated passengers over age 12.

J&J is not approved for the 12-18 group, so that will impact youth. Youth will need 6 weeks. Vaccination rate for 12-16 is significantly lower than that for adults in almost all areas, including states and counties with high adult vaccination rates.

The other cruise lines that were not previously requiring vaccinations made the change last Thursday within hours of the Bahamas policy change. DCL is the only major cruise line that is not requiring vaccinations (12+) for sailings to the Bahamas.

Which won't be sailings to the Bahamas, really.

All this "my TA says DCL is talking to the Bahamas!" is so silly. Every other cruise line is going vax, under-12 is okay, and DCL is sailing two ships, both with Bahamian registry. They don't have any negotiating space except for bribery.

We didn't see headlines about Disney provides free cruise to people who are too dumb to read and get their kids tested.
Actually, there weren't particularly headlines, and definitely not an opt-in for that. It was a guest-recovery measure, not an offer. It was directly given (not offered but given) to the relatively few parties impacted. Since DCL knows (or has a pretty good idea) who is going to be impacted as 12+ over the next month, I can see them proceeding with a similar direct recovery measure but not making it an offer available to just anyone with a reservation.

Yes. Than you for clearly articulating what was in my head. I couldn't seem to come up with the right way to say it. Again, not sure if they really are consider this, it was just an idea.
