Do you keep cash at home?

I’m always amazed in these threads by those who seem to take a perverse pride in not carrying cash, like it has syphilis or AIDS or Covid.
We don't keep cash beyond whatever change might occasionally come out of a pocket on laundry day. I've never got cash unless someone else gives it to me for something. :confused3Neither proud or ashamed - just matter of fact. I do hereby acknowledge we will be screwed if society completely devolves and we are unable to access our funds.

I am, too.

We keep some cash in the house for "in case", not to be confused with the change & small bills that on occasion have come out of the dryer and go in the change bucket over the washer!

Got denominations in Bahamian $$$ as we used to travel there several times a year pre -Dorian (yes, you are correct you can use US currency there), and a bit of Euros leftover from our last trip over there that are BURNING A HOLE IN MY POCKET.

For me cash was king until covid. (and it has nothing to do with germs)
Once my local Walmart stopped accepting it over the summer I finally broke down and obtained a debit card.
I do keep a SMALL amount of cash on hand now and can go to the ATM if need be. Its great for lightening up my wallet and has made it easy to carry just a small wallet but I definitely do miss the ability to physically touch money. (I do realize that seems like an odd thing to say). I just felt like when I had the tangle cash I knew how much I had and how much I could spend. Now with it just being a number on an app I worry I'll spend more without thinking.

But unlike some others, you don’t go around humblebrag posting that you haven’t carried cash since 1994.

In a scenario where cash is hard to come by in the US, I think a supply of cigarettes, alcohol, ammo, guns, and pitch forks would be more important.

The sin items, alcohol and cigarettes, would be great for trading.

The ammo, guns, and pitch forks to defend the sin items.

Cash is king in emergencies...I have enough for about 3-4 weeks of groceries and necessities...it hasn't been touched, except once when I needed to pay the neighborhood pet sitter and somehow I didn't have enough cash in my wallet (he's a college student and cash is king for them, since they don't cash checks or take credit cards:))...

Yes.....I save ones and fives for tipping on trips.
I have some 20s too to carry on trips.....just in case.
We have about 6-7 different kinds of currency left over from past trips

Your local Walmart stopped accepting cash????!!!!

That policy here would disenfranchise about 75% of its local customers.

They accept cash but only at the manned cash registers and since there's usually only a few open the lines get long and I like checking myself out.
The self check out doesn't accept cash.
At first I thought it was the coin shortage but they didn't offer an exact change option like they did in 2020 when there was low circulation.
When I ask why its card only the employees not paid enough to care just say they don't know.
I even called the 1-800 number and the employee seemed oblivious.
I've been to other Walmarts and they have at least a couple self check outs that accept cash.
Its frustrating or at least was until I was like fine I'll join the 21st century lol.

My niece and nephew are college age.
They never have cash.
They'd rather do zelle/venmo etc.
Anything that goes directly from one bank account to another.

Yeah, but see, I don't do those, so the college kids know to ask for cash from parents with college kids:)...to each other, yeah, but not when helping the neighbors out...
