We just got back after spending four nights at Pop. I wanted to come here and post our experience because some may recall I was hesitant to select Pop in the first place because we are use to staying in higher end hotels/resorts with amenities such as indoor corridors, room service, etc. We were having trouble deciding between Pop and Swan - in the end we chose Pop because it was $900 cheaper, and we are SO GLAD we did! We really enjoyed staying at Pop! (I had stayed there one night on a previous trip with a friend and my young daughter) We reserved a Preferred Pool View and were in Building 6, second floor, right at the Hippy Dippy Pool. The room location was fantastic. Disney has done a fabulous job with the room remodels - they are very well done. LOTS of terrific storage all around the room but mostly in the bathroom area. Beds were comfortable, the coffee/fridge console was great, a pretty great room overall.
The cons, in my opinion:
Like in many value and mod resorts, you can hear toilets in other rooms being flushed
There is only one sink and one main mirror which made it a bit tough to get ready and apply make-up and style hair for me and our teen daughter. There is another longer mirror on the bathroom door but it is still in the same bathroom area so not as user friendly as having a mirror in the other part of the room like there are in so many other hotel rooms. We made it work.
The location next to the pool was terrific but there is LOTS of noise that comes into the room - music from the pool area and guest noise from people enjoying the pool, and guests walking past and talking - you will hear all of that right in your room so it is something to keep in mind if you book that room category. We still would not hesitate to book that location again, though.
Skyliner. Our experience may not be the norm. On Monday night, there was a storm brewing while we were at Epcot. As we approached Skyliner it started sprinkling. Once we were on Skyliner, it started pouring. I mean pouring. When we pulled into the CBR station, the CM said they were shutting it down due to lightening. We got into the line for Pop and the entire queue was filled and then some. After waiting several minutes, my DH asked a CM what was happening. She indicated that soon a CM would be coming by with a clipboard to ask guests how many people in their party so that they knew how many buses to send because they did not anticipate starting up Skyliner again. We knew that process would take forever so we asked where we could go for a Lyft which turned out to be a parking lot across the street. We went down the ramp in pouring rain and across the street and waited for our Lyft. It was raining so hard the windshield wipers on the Lyft car were not doing a thing. We arrived back at Pop to flooding near Petals. Once in our room we had to quickly figure out how to dry our only pair of park shoes for the next morning. We were sure that as we were dry and changed into cuddly clothes that guests were still waiting around for a bus to show up to bring them back to Pop!
Here is the thing. Disney is supposedly the most data driven company and they wanted to send a CM around with a clipboard to count people! Why not initiate a Code Skyliner and know in advance how many buses to send based on how full the queues are or turn on their cameras and do a quick virtual count based on what they see in the control room. We are floored that Disney does not have a better process in place for this type of closure.
On Wednesday morning we took Skyliner to HS and back and really, really liked it. Yes there was a long line to get to HS but it kept moving and we did not wait long. Being in a line that is moving is a lot better than standing in a bus queue where you are wondering when a bus will show up, if you'll get on, etc.
So, all of this to say that Skyliner is great if there are no hiccups. If there are issues, it can be pretty dismal. So I would say that choosing a resort to be able to be on the Skyliner route is a bit dicey based on what we just experienced.
Someone here recently stated they feel Pop is an amazing resort for a couple. I would agree with that. I can totally envision DH and I staying there again just the two of us and keeping the wall bed up and enjoying that extra space in the room and it would be easier for only one person to get ready in the bathroom area vs. two.
I am happy to answer any questions about Pop! I appreciate everyone's help prior to our trip!
