Anyone following any covid protocols on cruises?

We sail next week, and the only place we are giving serious consideratrion to wearing masks is in the theaters. There isn't really much you can do in a restaurant.

I think we just have to evaluate the situation when it's time to cruise. Too hard to predict all the variables. We have sailed 4 times since re-start and we only felt uncomfortable on the last one (New Year cruise).

We masked everywhere but the restaurants and my wife still got covid. There are a lot of Fantasy crew that are out sick at the moment with it. You just have to be ok with the increased risk.

We're cruising in August and I am VERY excited! This has been originally scheduled back in March 2019 for August 2020, then it got pushed to August 2021, and now this year. It was supposed to be for my parents' 50th Anniversary but sadly, my dad passed suddenly in April 2020, but my mom still wants to go and celebrate him and all of us being together (8 of us total). Anyway, I know all the previous covid precautions that the cruise line was talking but now there seems to be none. Is anyone taking any precautions individually? Granted, in three months, anything can change, but I'm just trying to keep my family as safe as possible. Please don't bombard me with "it's just a cold" or anything like that-I lost my principal to this in the very beginning of the pandemic so I do not not need to hear that. Thanks for anyone who wants to post anything helpful!

I think you said that all the precautions Disney was taking have changed now that not true they are cleaning as much and actually they pretty much did this thorough cleaning before Covid. Disney is one of the cleanest ones.

And wife and I going in Sept and will be wearing our n95 masks with Disney cloth masks over. To each their own

Just curious was that before or after the federal/CDC change? Just to add my experience I flew to Dallas and OKC from New Orleans last week and the user above who said it was around 40/60 split for masks/no masks that was accurate for my flights as well.

Just before. So that was probably it. We disembarked on the 16th and had to wear masks at the terminal and bus to airport and on the plane. But I guess we must have been one the last cruises before they changed the federal transportation rules.

Has anyone flown to Canada now that they still require masking and the US doesn't? Or what it's like on the Wonder out of Canada with their additional cruise rules. I was wondering how it is being handled on planes and what the cruise is like compared to reports coming out of Florida.

I’m not sure regulation-wise, but socially, many are still wearing masks in Vancouver. At the mall, I’d say around 80% of people wear masks. I assume that’ll make for a higher popularity of masks on Vancouver sailings

It'll be interesting because most people sailing out of Vancouver will be Americans who are out of the habit of masking. It'll be a solid three months between the last time I masked (Magic cruise in April) to the next time I have to (flying from Boston to Vancouver in July). I'll follow the rules, of course, but not everyone shares my sunny disposition.

Well the air crew will enforce mask wearing for those over 6 because that is a federal regulation for flying into Canada. And it will be enforced from boarding to departing the airport no matter where you're starting. I'll let you know next week what the ship was like.

We sailed B2B on the Fantasy over Christmas and New Year. The second cruise had a significant covid problem and we were not able to get off in St. Thomas. We could see covid measures changing daily as the cases went up. We did not catch covid and feel that our personal measures helped, but the dining room made me nervous.

We are flying from US to Canada for a cruise in late July. Do they allow masks to be momentarily dropped on planes while actively eating/drinking? It's a long day of flying with no food/hydration.

Yes, but you must be actively drinking or eating. I know my dad was "warned" for having his mask down after having some of his drink and taking a moment to decide if he wanted more or to put it down.

I think it depends where they are coming from in the U.S. I'm in California and here in Sacramento masking is not required and has fallen off sharply. Food service workers seem most inclined to still wear a mask. I was in Los Angeles County two weeks ago, also not required, but much more common to wear a mask. Surprised me.

I'm just glad that you guys have what I consider to be a much more reasonable minimum age. I can mask comfortably, my 7 year old can mask comfortably, and my 4 year old is fine until she sneezes. My 2 year old is pretty much impossible.

I am glad my kids were all teenagers/adults when covid happened. I know for a fact my middle child would have been impossible!

My 2yo sometimes requests a mask when the rest of the family is wearing one. He doesn’t wear it for very long most of the time (and it’s soaked from him licking the inside I think) but if everyone else has one he asks for his. Most of Alberta are a bit anti-mask but my family is still masking most everywhere in public (except school and daycare)

That has not been my experience. We live in the 'burbs (Surrey) and it's way less than 80% who wear masks in the stores. Out and about I'd say it's less than half who are still wearing them. My husband and I do not, our kids still choose to wear them in school (though no longer mandatory) and I'd say that's the one place here that I see a lot of people wearing them. We still have our baskets by the back door because you never know if they will bring the mandate back in the Fall. And had to remind my husband we will need to wear them for the terminal and for pre embarkation testing for our Alaska in July.
